Super Gene Ⅱ: Evolution

Chapter 327: Chapter 327 Waiting

She had been waiting here for over a hundred days. At first, she had some Base Mutation Fluid to stave off hunger, but after the fluids ran out, she had sold everything of value for more Base Mutation Fluid.

She didn't dare leave the entrance, fearing that Lin Shen wouldn't find her if he arrived.

Now, she hadn't eaten for over half a month, and she hadn't even had any water to drink.

The water resources on Meidu Star were extremely scarce, and here, water had to be paid for. Yun didn't have any money, so she couldn't even afford to drink water.

Yun stared desperately at the gate, her expression becoming somewhat vacant, clutching the Giant God's Bone Lin Shen had given her and murmuring to herself, "He will come... He must come..."

"Hey, what are you doing here?" A man resembling a civet cat, dressed in an advanced battle suit, approached Yun and surveyed her.

Without a word, Yun merely shifted to the side to keep her view of the entrance clear.

"I've seen you here for several days, not eating or drinking. Are you in some kind of trouble?" the civet-like man asked with a smile.

Seeing that Yun ignored him, the civet-like man continued smiling, "I am Huang Yu, the director of the Nightmare Group's Meidu Star branch. If you are interested, you could join our Nightmare Group."

"Nightmare Group?" Yun was slightly taken aback.

She had indeed heard of the Nightmare Group. Although it wasn't considered a top force in the universe, the Nightmare Group's main business involved recruiting talented individuals from planets of lower-ranked races to train and cultivate them, and then reassigning them to powers in need of talent.

Back when she was with the Spirit Treasure Clan, the Nightmare Group had approached her for recruitment, but at the time, with the support of both the Moon Rabbit Clan and Spirit Treasure Clan, she had no intention of joining them.

Yun examined the otherworlder who called himself Huang Yu, gradually recalling something. This Huang Yu seemed to be the same person who had attempted to recruit her back during her time with the Spirit Treasure Clan.

However, back then, Huang Yu was merely a star scout, and now, he was a branch director, and not just of any branch, but of a high-class planet like Meidu Star.

"I remember you; you visited the Spirit Treasure Clan," Yun said before her gaze shifted back to the entrance.

"Haha, I'm glad you remember me. Not having been able to recruit you back then has always been a regret of mine. I didn't expect to encounter you here. If you're willing, I'd still hope to recruit you into the Nightmare Group. I see great potential in you and I would offer you the best training and treatment available for recruits, you can be assured of that," Huang Yu said.

"I'm sorry, but I have no plans to join the Nightmare Group," Yun shook her head.

Had she encountered Huang Yu again before meeting Lin Shen, Yun might have accepted his invitation.

Although the Nightmare Group could be seen as a middleman trafficking in talent, at least they provided resources and cultivation to those they picked. With sufficient talent, one could receive ample resources and even have the opportunity to join some major powers after Ascension.

For Yun, that was not an opportunity to be dismissed lightly, especially with Huang Yu's reassurance.

"You're waiting for someone, aren't you? I've been observing you for a long time, and I think the person you're waiting for is not going to come. If they were, they should have come by now," Huang Yu said calmly. "I'm really very impressed with you, and I have high hopes for you; otherwise, I wouldn't have recognized you at a glance after all these years. Your talent shouldn't be buried.

If you're willing, I can offer you a top-tier trainee contract and hire a suitable coach to train you specifically. I don't have the authority to keep you here, but I can guarantee to send you to a powerful clan within the top thousand rankings in the universe. Think it over and give me a chance, and give yourself a chance too."

As he spoke, Huang Yu set down a bottle filled with Base Mutation Fluid.

"You should eat something first. I'll come see you again tomorrow," Huang Yu said, then turned and left.

The next day, when Huang Yu came back, he saw Yun still sitting against the wall, staring blankly at the gate of the transfer station.

In front of Yun, the bottle of Base Mutation Fluid remained intact, the cap had not been opened, not even touched.

"You drank the Base Mutation Fluid, right? It's okay if you don't want to join the Nightmare Group; it's a personal gift from me," Huang Yu said.

Yun just shook her head: "Thank you, I don't need it."

"You child..." Huang Yu sighed, helpless, he picked up the bottle of Base Mutation Fluid, wiped the dust off it, and placed it again in front of Yun: "Really, it's okay. I just don't want to see a young person I admire fall into such a state. If you keep this up, you're going to die."

"Thank you, I really don't need it," Yun insisted stubbornly, shaking her head again.

"Don't be so foolish," Huang Yu said with a bitter smile as he walked away. For several days in a row, Huang Yu came every day to check on Yun, but she never touched the Base Mutation Fluid he left there.

Yun's condition had become very bad, suffering from severe hunger and dehydration. While this was not a problem for Base Variant Creatures, it was fatal for carbon-based life forms.

Yun had become skin and bones, with a waxen complexion, and her lips were cracked and dry, with streaks of blood faintly visible.

A few days ago, when Huang Yu came by, Yun still exchanged a few words with him. Now, when Huang Yu came back, Yun was no longer speaking.

It wasn't that she didn't want to respond to Huang Yu, but she was too weak to speak.

"They will come... they must come..." Yun sat there somewhat dazed, sometimes managing to mutter a few unclear words.

"What a fool, who exactly are you waiting for? Is he worth it? Listen to me, there's no one in this world worth waiting for to the point of dying; staying alive is what's most important," Huang Yu said, sighing as he looked at the half-dead Yun who still guarded her position here.

Yun didn't speak, her eyelids barely lifting, yet she still forced herself to stay awake, gazing at the gate of the transfer station.

Huang Yu wanted to say something else, but suddenly he saw Yun's eyes widen, the lifeless look in her eyes suddenly filled with light.

Yun struggled to stand up, but her arms gave way, and she fell back to the ground; she was just too weak.

Despite this, Yun strove to get up again, her eyes brimming with light, she reached out and wobbled forward as if she had seen the gates of heaven.

Suddenly, everything went dark before her eyes, and she fell forward.

As Huang Yu reached out to help her, another figure had already stepped forward, catching Yun before she hit the ground.
