Chapter 3: Crazy...
"I know what you're thinking, Lucy," Leon said, his voice strained with emotion. "I'll never do that. It's inhumane, a crime that disgusts me. We were meant to be together, don't you understand? It isn't your fault that this had to happen. It's all his fault," he added, his gaze filled with hatred as he glanced at Mark's lifeless body.
"He should've never existed in this world. I didn't notice your infatuation with him until it was too late. If I had known, I would've eradicated him from the surface of the earth the first time my eyes landed on him. I would've crushed him before he caused unimaginable problems between us."
"You're crazy, Leon?!" Lucy sobbed and pleaded. "We only got together recently. A little bit of kissing from him doesn't warrant his death, and certainly not mine. Please, let me go. I'll be forever grateful for the rest of my life."
Leon's gaze remained resolute, his decision final. "No, Lucy. This is the only way..."
Tears streamed down his face as he leaned in for another kiss, while Lucy futilely tried to resist once again.
After the kiss, pain reflected in Leon's eyes as his hands moved to her neck, gripping it tightly. Lucy had never been so frightened in her life. Her tongue stuck out of her mouth as she coughed, Leon pressing his thumbs firmly on her air tube, cutting off her supply of air.
Then it happened. Her eyes slowly began to lose all life.
'I thought this world was the best for us...but it looks like I was mistaken. How can a world free from real danger be capable of breaking our bond so easily?'
Leon stood up, the grim scene around him: the lifeless bodies of Mark and Lucy lying on the floor. Blood seeped from their throats where Leon had squeezed too hard to end their lives without much struggle.
Leon knelt down to kiss Lucy's corpse on the forehead as a sign of a final farewell from this world. Then brought out the gift, a necklace and a ring, and used it to dig a hole for Lucy. The ground was soft, and with his strength honed from daily training, digging a small hole for a burial of Lucy's corpse wasn't difficult.
But then, multiple police bikes sped into the school, the riders gingerly applying brakes a few meters away from Leon.
The trained police personnels behind the riders coolly jumped out from the bike, pistols at the ready and aimed at Leon.
"LCPD! Freeze or feel the heat!"
Their gaze landed on the hole, then on the two corpses lying on the ground, one of which Leon was just about to bury before they made their entrance.
Their eyes shifted to Leon's clothes. 'He's just a college teenager, but he coldly killed those two with no remorse or expression on his face. But why didn't he run after the murder but stayed to bury them? What the hell is going on?'
Multiple thoughts raced through their minds. If there's anyone, then Leon has most definitely won the title of the weirdest criminal each of them has encountered so far.
"You're surrounded! LCPD demands compliance!"
They slowly began to approach. Despite his age, Leon was a criminal, and they had to treat him like one.
"Drop what's in your hands now!" One of them yelled, his gaze fixed on the dirtied necklace in Leon's hand, which he had been using as a makeshift tool to dig.
Leon complied, sighing as he dropped what was in his hands, making no sudden movements.
"On your knees! Hands where we can see them, now!"
Leon obeyed, kneeling with his hands visible.
"Don't move a muscle! We're watching every step, kid!"
The leader issued one last warning and moved towards Leon with handcuffs, while the others remained on high alert, fingers hovering over the triggers just in case.
The leader sighed as he approached. He knew of Leon's parents and how dangerous they were. He had interacted with them in the past, they had helped with some dirty business and getting rid of annoying criminals when he was newly appointed as head of the police.
But he had a job to do, and he couldn't let his personal feelings interfere. Arresting their son was risky, but he had no choice. Not complying would have dire consequences. Plus, knowing who Leon's parents were made him extremely cautious.
He was sure they had taught him martial arts, and it was likely from them that Leon inherited the killer instinct that made him so unremorseful after taking a life. If not apprehended now, Leon would likely become an even more dangerous criminal than his parents.
'How can he do such a thing without remorse?' they all thought, unaware of the turmoil within Leon. His pain wasn't from Mark's death, but from losing Lucy.
'It's the only way now. Everything is messed up,' he thought, trying to console himself.
The DPO was close enough to cuff Leon now. "Stay still. I'm going to cuff you nice and slow. Any funny movement, and your head will be blown off..."
Leon smiled, then his hands moved. It was swift and precise, a blur of blue darting towards the holster near the DPO's waist, where the gun was secured.
With a sharp movement, Leon retrieved the gun and pointed it at his own head.
"Goodbye, Mum, Dad, and Officer Joe. Make sure Lucy gets a proper burial. I'll die too, This way, I would've partly paid for my sin of killing her."
With a crazed grin on his face, he pulled the trigger. The bullet pierced his skull and entered his brain, killing him instantly.
Leon was dead, but the relieved grin on his face remained.
