Chapter 15 - 15: Unexpected Turn of Events

Chapter Fifteen: The Plot Thickens

Thinking of this, Robert Green laughed and said without hesitation: “Mr. Hall, you are mistaken. How can we expel such an outstanding student like Finn Lewis? We always strive to work with a commitment towards the students. Now that the matter has been fully investigated, there would be no talk of expelling Finn. What’s more, we will apply for an excellence scholarship for him! I will clarify this matter with you and Mr. Wood later.”

Mr. Wood, standing nearby, was flabbergasted at the Principal’s sudden change of attitude. Even being a teacher himself, Mr. Wood couldn’t cope with such extreme emotional changes. However, Luca Hall was unphased, inwardly cursing the cunning of these people. He remembered that Mr. Wood had already told him that Finn didn’t want to leave the school.

Otherwise, Luca would have proposed Finn to drop out and assured that he would receive an invitation from the renowned H University. However, seeing the school change its stance, Luca followed suit, grinning as he said: “Principal Green is truly a responsible person. I’m sure Finn thinks so too. Besides, I’ve heard that the school was planning a meeting to discuss Finn’s expulsion. I wonder what’s the outcome.”

“Rest assured, Mr. Hall, the matter is well in hand,” Robert Green quickly responded. Was he joking? It would be comical to continue the expulsion process now.

No secret stays hidden for long. And in the F University campus, the incident had attained quite a reputation. The rumor of a boy dropping two million on his ex-girlfriend, in particular, had swept through the campus forums. Everyone seemed to know, and if it hadn’t been for the school’s strict regulations against accepting interviews and spreading publicity—with expulsion as the penalty— the media would have reported on it sooner.

Regardless, numerous media channels still covered the incident without much public outcry. Inside the F University campus, the situation was sensational. When Mr. Wood received news of the meeting regarding Finn’s expulsion, and rumors of Cora Franklin and Yuri Lucas reporting Finn to the police started circulating, almost the entire student body was aware of it.

Even Finn’s background was discussed. Everyone was speculating where Finn’s money came from and whether the school would actually expel him. Most students still thought he would be expelled, especially as the discussions had already begun publicly. Cora Franklin and Yuri Lucas had ensured they had spread the word, especially Cora, who wished everyone to know that Finn was about to face expulsion.

Finn’s refusal to give Cora the money had pushed her to the brink, but most students disapproved of her actions. Many openly voiced their sympathies for Finn. Some male students even felt gratified about Finn taking revenge, despite his actions being questionable.

They knew that incidents like this happened all the time on the F University campus—although they weren’t always as extreme. Stealing girlfriends was a common occurrence—it didn’t happen only to Finn.

As everyone awaited the development of the events, some students even gathered around the meeting room hoping for some news. But the developments caught everyone off-guard. The meeting commenced on time, but the proposal to expel Finn by Robert Thomp was immediately met with strong oppositions from Mr. Wood and Principal Green.

The other school executives who had assumed the matter was decided already were taken aback. All of them started looking at each other, wondering what was happening. Robert Thomp was most bewildered, having thought they had agreed to expel Finn; why the flip-flopping?

Regardless of Thomp’s objections, the decision was unlikely to change due to the Principal’s vehement opposition. Green even proposed to use his directorial veto, so naturally, none of the vice chancellors was going to voice any opposition. No matter how much Thomp tried to rock the boat, it was to no

avail.

Thus, the matter was resolved as is. As soon as the meeting was over, the Principal, Mr. Wood and a foreigner were seen leaving the campus in the Principal’s car. Where they were headed nobody knew.

Now, it was nearly the end of office hours, and the police were looking a little helpless. Sharp James shook his head ruefully. Naturally, they couldn’t object to Finn cooperating with their inquiries. They spent the time drinking tea and chatting. Finn wasn’t a suspect, and they had no authority to detain him. Seeing that it was nearly closing time, James thought this would be the end of it.

At least until someone filed a report, there was no way they could investigate Finn’s money, which now had to be returned to him. But just as James was about to let him leave, a police officer walked in, glanced at him and at Finn, then whispered, “Director Samuel, the principal from F University, Finn’s teacher, and a foreigner came to the station with matters regarding Finn.”

“The principal of F University? Here?”, James was surprised. This was not a small matter. What could it mean? Even if Finn really had issues, the Principal of F University wouldn’t be here.

“Bring them in immediately,” James ordered at once.

Soon, the three men were ushered into James’ office. As soon as he saw the foreigner, Finn recognized him to be the man from the photograph. Likewise, Luca Hall recognized Finn too. The sight of Finn brought him immense relief. Ignoring James, Luca walked up to Finn with a big smile on his face, “Mr. Finn, my name is Luca Hall. I’m your personal attorney, here to discuss your property issues in the North Federation.”

Hall’s pitch -perfect Mandarin took everyone, including James, by surprise. On hearing about Finn’s property in the North Federation, James understood that the source of Finn’s money isn’t an issue..
