Chapter 269 The Demon Onslaught

Zefney Ravenglide was the sister of a renowned S-Rank Adventurer named Feldar Ravenglide, a peak Rank Elementalist and the person who held the Voidweaver's Orb.

The Voidweaver's Orb was a peak legendary grade item with skills capable of bending space and gravity, a genuinely destructive and valuable item, and a prized possession of Feldar.

Alex wanted that Orb because it was the second and final piece needed to complete the broken legacy belonging to the "Monarch of Space," while Alex already had acquired the first piece, namely the Staff of Starfall, which he acquired from Vlad in exchange for the instance dungeon.

Alex knew very little about the legacy of the "Monarch of Space" because the player who acquired it never revealed any information personally, and whatever he knew came from the research of the players from the game forums.

The unknown player became famous less than a year before Alex returned in time, and he did so by achieving the unbelievable feat of clashing against a berserk dragon consumed with rage because of the devourer curse.

The Dragon was at the peak of Sixth Rank, but with his monstres' strength and defense of a dragon fueled by the never-ending rage, the dragon was easily slaughtering through tens of Dragon Kin and pure dragons.

The Unknown Player appeared out of a space crack shrouded in darkness and started his clash, going toe-to-toe with the hulking monstrosity and eventually ripping the colossal dragon apart before vanishing within a space crack, leaving behind the mangled corpse.

After the incident, it sparked interest among the players as many wanted to know the identity and affiliation of the unknown player, and even though the players failed to find the player's identity, they successfully found the origin of the dark sphere embedded in the staff that he wielded.

An anonymous player disclosed that the staff in the player's possession was an incomplete legacy item previously owned by the Chosen Champion guild.

The guild later confirmed this information with The added statement that they had sold it in a private auction and had no information about the buyer's identity.

Various guilds offered the unknown player wild benefits, but he didn't show any interest while appearing every now and then at random places to show his broken space element skills.

Alex had first planned to use multiple legendary items and treasures to acquire the Voidweaver's Orb, but he was not confident that Feldar would part with his precious treasure this easily.

But now Alex planned to save his sister, whom Feldar cared for dearly, and then try to bargain for the Orb and hopefully acquire it without taking any indecent measures.

After arriving at the city, Alex first went to check on the house of the Zefney Ravenglide in the inner section of the city, as without her presence, his purpose for risking his life was meaningless.

Alex went straight to Lady Zefney's manor, and after confirming her presence using his unique eyes, he left the area and went to a hotel.

There were still close to fifteen to twenty hours before the demon invasion would start, and the demons would invade the city the same way they did in the three capitals, taking over the teleportation center and arriving right in the city's heart through a portal.

Alex decided to spend his free time working on his mana veins, and in the next thirteen hours, he successfully completed the second major vein, completing the first crude loop to the heart chambers.

Now, Only the circulatory system of Arteries was left to replicate, and then Alex would be done with the process of building his mana veins.

Alex waited in the hotel room, stretching and meditating to mentally prepare himself for the imminent and intense battle that loomed just hours away.

After seven hours, Alex heard a loud, low-pitched hum that shook the whole city, and looking outside the window, he saw the clear space in the heart of the city having a space portal that was slowly expanding and stabilizing.

The city plunged into an eerie silence as millions of its citizens watched in horror, as the portal, dark and gray swirled suspended in the center of the city, took its time to stabilize as if teasing the impending doom that lurked within.

The city descended into chaos as the portal fluctuated and crackled with power, and knowing what was to come, a few individuals sprinted to their homes, searching for safety and their loved ones. Others, driven by a sense of fear, raced towards the city's exit in an attempt to flee the impending nightmare.

'Let's hope things work out as I want them to,' Alex thought, taking out a communication slip.

"It must be something truly important for you to contact me," Lady Telyssa's voice sounded from the communication slip.

"Lady Telyssa, The city of Molentia is under attack by the demon, and if help doesn't arrive in the next two hours, then the whole population will possibly get massacred," Alex said, keeping his eyes on the expanding portal.

"I will send aid," Lady Telyssa said after a small silence before the connection was cut off.

Alex knew that despite the city's remote location and relatively small population of just a few million, it was not without protection as several army regiments had been assigned to safeguard it, totaling 60,000 soldiers.

But the majority were third-Rank soldiers, with a few thousand fourth-Rank warriors and only a few hundred fifth-Rank individuals, and leading them was a lone sixth-rank warrior as their commander.

The demon invaders would be numbering close to 50,000, and they were also well aware of the city's defenses and had prepared accordingly.

They will have thousands of fourth-rank demons and a few thousand fifth-rank demons in their ranks, and additionally, they will also have the support of warships, mana cannons, and various other forms of weaponry.

The demons' objective was not to directly engage with the army but to turn the city to ruins and slay anyone unfortunate enough to cross their path.

They will launch coordinated attacks in groups led by stronger demons while a select group of formidable fifth-rank demons will engage with the sixth-rank commander.

All this would result in the eventual annihilation of the city, and with no outside help, there was very little chance of the city surviving, and Alex couldn't just stand to the side and let it happen.

In the chaos that followed the portal's appearance, the soldiers followed their training protocols. Citywide alarms blared to bring some semblance of order and direct citizens to safety, but the situation remained dire.

While anyone at third Rank or above strength individuals was called upon to converge at designated districts to aid in the city's defense.

The army was strategically deployed throughout the city, organized into groups that acted swiftly to construct fortifications and defensive structures, preparing to repel the imminent demon onslaught.

Their efforts included dividing the city into several fortified districts, each equipped with its own defensive structures, chokepoints, and designated evacuation zones for the safety of civilians.

Amidst the anxious minutes that ticked by, the portal expanded to tens of meters in size, stabilizing gradually, and soon after, the first ominous sign of the impending invasion materialized from the portal as a pitch-black warship shrouded in a protective energy barrier exited the portal.
