Chapter 246 Preventing The Massacre
"This is a problem, but at least no other Elemental Rulers will be present inside the barrier, and even the cube holder will be a peak Elementalist, meaning no threat to the domain Ruler."
"Did you find out the real reason why the demons are invading the Human continent?" Varon asked.
"I find a few reasons, with the most believable being targetting higher echelons of human hierarchy and replacing them with Veilshapers, Killing the Emporer Himself and replacing him, locating hidden artifacts or downright plunging the whole continent into chaos using the Chaos Spawn,"
"But none makes me believe that they are the true goal of Ahrimon because he would have sacrificed the life of tens of high demons and a vast amount of resources to open not just one but two continental portals,"
"If he wanted to create a distraction, a single portal should be enough, but he opened two, which will require vastly more resources, for what to just sent a few extra million demons that will eventually get slaughtered,"
"He is obviously doing all this to buy time, to complete one of his plans, but if I have to make a wild guess, it is also to locate the Domain Ruler," Elder Darrien said.
"You are correct in your assumption, but Ahrimon should know that we will predict this and will take measures for Domain Ruler's safety," Varon said and went silent, trying to find a possible answer.
"I don't have an answer, and by your silence, I believe neither do you, so tell me, what do you want me to do?" Elder Darrien questioned.
"Make sure that Domain Ruler doesn't use his true identity when he enters the barrier, and as for everything else, you know what to do," Varon said.
---------------------
The initial shock of terror that swept through the ranks of the human army was like a frigid wind, causing hearts to race and breath to catch. Soldiers exchanged apprehensive glances, their determination momentarily wavered seeing the floating monstrosity before their eyes.
However, this moment of fear and uncertainty lasted only for mere moments among the captains and seasoned warriors.
Their training, discipline, and battle-hardened resolve swiftly kicked in, and they moved to quell the rising panic within their ranks, and with swift and practiced motions, orders were barked out, a chain reaction of commands that echoed through the ranks.
The archers, mages, and warships were directed to prepare their second volley of attacks, their focus returning to the impending clash with the sole goal of ripping through the barrier of the war fortress.
While the mages worked together and created a massive protective dome over the army, which wouldn't last for long against a volley of attacks, but it still calmed the unrest in the army.
While the army prepared for the clash, Alex made his way toward the front lines, knowing what was to come next.
'The next few minutes are going be a roller coaster of emotions for the human army,' Alex thought, remembering how this battle went in his past life.
After the combined barrage of attacks fails to destroy the barrier, the demon commander will mock the army before introducing the Soulreaver cannon.
After failing to destroy the barrier with long-range attacks, the human army with charge toward the barrier with its strongest warriors in the lead but will fail and moments later, watch in horror, 'Soulreaver' release a beam of pure destruction, pulverizing their strongest warship.
The single attack will destroy the White Domesday with four other warships while also killing many of the Aurora Valkyries regiment members.
After the attack, the barrier created by the fortress will be gone, but the human army wouldn't have any time to engage with the demons and push forward before getting bombarded with devastating attacks.
Minutes later, a second beam of destruction would greet the human army, disintegrating thousands in a split second.
After seeing the massacre, the retreat command was given, but to everyone's horror, they discovered that none of their teleportation skill or scrolling were working.
After that, it will be a massacre as the weaponry of the war fortress will kill millions of soldiers while a small portion makes a run for their lives.
'This time, I will foil their flawless victory, and even though the human army will still lose this clash, it won't be nearly as devastating as my previous life,' Alex thought, keeping his sight on the floating fortress in the distance.
The imposing War fortress hovered above the terrain, its foreboding presence casting a shadow over the surroundings.
It was crafted from a lustrous blend of obsidian-hued metals, and it measured around 180 meters in length and stood at an imposing height of 80 meters while dark, intricate runes adorned various sections of its surface, pulsating with an ominous red glow.
At each of its four corners, towering spires stretched skyward, each crowned with a colossal mana pulse cannon, being ten times the size of a normal one, while the fortress walls were coved in neat groves lined with hundreds of normal-sized mana cannons.
Crowning the fortress was a grand pyramid-shaped roof that extended across its expanse, creating a formidable capstone that enclosed the entire structure.
Alex watched as the second volley of attacks met the barrier one after the other, and even though the barrier showed more cracks than the previous time, it still returned to flawless condition in mere moments.
"Human, It's time I make good of my words," Wrathahr, The Demon Commander, said as a section of the flawless roof of the fortress separated, revealing the massive cannon inside.
The human army watched with wide eyes as runes covering the fortress glowed intensely while the massive cannon inside the fortress started to charge, its energy building up with an ominous hum that sent mana pulse through the surrounding.
A palpable wave of terror rippled through the human army as the charging process continued feeling the sheer mana emanating from the colossal cannon was like a looming nightmare.
"Brave Warrior, Charge forward to destroy that brier !" A commanding voice rang out as Kerubiel roared a rallying cry that snapped the soldiers out of their momentary trance.
The army charged forward with Kerubiel at the helm and threw the strongest of their attacks at the barrier while the warships and mages bombarded it with a barrage of attacks.
While the army struggled to put a chink in the barrier, Alex stood at the back holding a leather crimson scroll that slowly got covered in crimson red runes and started to absorb mana from its surrounding like a sponge.
The seconds turned into minutes, and now the colossal cannon mouth pulsed with pitch darkness and even the air reeked of dread, while the soldier's eyes filled with fear as they watched the death looming in the distance.
"Brace yourselves!" Kerubiel roared, his voice carrying a tint of panic.
At the forefront, the "Titan's Vanguard" regiments exhibited their unflinching resolve as those battle-tested warriors slammed their colossal shields on the ground creating a unified colossal shield ready for the attack.
The moment the barrier got removed, Alex used the phantom walk, appearing at the frontline holding a now illuminating crimson scroll, standing alone before the human army, ready to face death and the floating fortress in the distance.
"Crimson Veil," Alex said as he unfolded the scroll while looking eye to eye with the demon commander with a wide grin on his face.
