Chapter 5
When he noticed his own gaffe, he squinted his cherry blossom eyes and there was a hint of cynicism in his eyes. "Pardon me. That reminded me of a friend of mine and I was a little distracted."
Gu Nian, "That\'s no problem. Is your friend a screenwriter as well?"
"He? No, he\'s not." Josh seemed to be genuinely happy. Some crow feet appeared around the corners of his eyes from his smile. "He was just… forced into the entertainment circle."
"Is that so."
After half an hour into dinner, the pace of the questions should be entering into the "dangerous territory."
Sure enough, after Josh had wiped his mouth with his napkin and carefully folded and put it back down, he started with his first jab. "Miss Gu, as far as I know, being a screenwriter is quite a rough profession domestically?"
Gu Nian smiled tenderly, "You are right about that."
Josh, "Then, may I ask how far does Miss Gu intend to go on her career path?"
"Wouldn\'t everyone naturally want to be #1 once you are at the starting line?"
"?"
Josh was taken aback by the sense of something being off.
Before he could respond, he heard a light sigh coming from the girl. Her dark, dole-like eyes looked soft and innocent as though the fierce feeling just a second ago was but a misconception.
Gu Nian, "I can\'t remember who it was that said that? Certainly that does not describe me. But you know, I must have a job in order to support myself."
Josh recollected himself and raised his brows. "In that case, I trust that Miss Gu won\'t mind quitting her job and becoming a full-time housewife after she gets married?"
"……"
The dessert spoon in Gu Nian\'s hand stopped in midair.
A second or two later, the girl looked up. There was some icing on her pink, cat lips. She was smiling like an innocent child. "Of course. I am an introvert and my dream is to stay home and take care of my husband and raise my children."
Josh smiled and said, "Well, in that case, I think Miss Gu and I see eye to eye on that."
"……"
Gu Nian smiled but didn\'t comment on that.
This back and forth had successfully given Lin Nantian the misimpression that the two had "really hit it off". She touched Gu Nian on her thigh gently under the table before she stood up and said, "Pardon me. I am going to the washroom."
"Please." Nodded Josh.
While she was turning around, Lin Nantian waved her fist at Gu Nian and mouthed the words to her.
Go get him!
Gu Nian returned a docile, fairy-like smile, "The tiles can be slippery. Please be careful."
"Mmm."
And Lin Nantian left in content.
Little Lady Gu retracted her look after she watched Lin Nantian walked into the blind spot.
She disengaged from her role in a second or less.
When she turned back over, Gu Nian was resting her cheek on her palm and her voice was already languid and she was dispirited. "I can tell that Mr. Josh didn\'t really want to be here today. I do believe that we can see eye to eye on that."
Josh paused his utensils in surprise.
Once he confirmed that he wasn\'t imaging it, he held back his chuckle and asked, "You mean we should end things here, Miss Gu? This is kind of abrupt. Can you at least give me a reason?"
Gu Nian, "I\'m not good enough for you. I\'m just a lowly little screenwriter. I am so poor that I could only afford to drink the wind and so hungry that I have to beg for food. I don\'t normally come to restaurants like this. Even this meal today is paid for by the generosity of my friend."
Josh, "You are joking, Miss Gu."
Gu Nian, "I am very serious."
Josh, "But I am very pleased with you, Miss Gu."
Gu Nian turned stiff and looked at him, "?"
Are you serious?
Lin Nantian had just walked inside of the restroom when she realized that she had left her cellphone on the table.
\'Tis was the 21st century. One\'s cellphone is the extension of oneself and one must have it even in one\'s dream.
She had no choice but to return to the table.
Turning into the dining area, Lin Nantian tried to look at their table but her view was blocked by the gauze curtain.
That\'s when she recalled that there was a table of customers seated behind them. Gu Nian even commented that one of the guests looked like that 180th-tier actor that she liked so much.
Lin Nantian casually looked over at that table and she wasn\'t able to look away after that…
