Chapter 365: Absol and Tauros
Leaving 4 of them alive was trickier. They had to battle them and somehow make them unable to move for some time.
When he looked at the battle, it was already halfway to completion. They had already incapacitated 4 of them. Gyarados had used 'Stealth rock,' and Tauros fired up 'Electric terrain' and 'Wild charge' to paralyze them.
Now, only 2 rare rank Darmanitan were in a condition to fight; the rest had already died. The team of Gyarados, Tauros, and Absol seemed to be very effective. After Axel berated Tauros and Absol to work harder, they became more serious.
They could see that almost all of the Pokemons in Axel's team were advancing, so they started to train hard. This fight had showcased their progress.
"Gyarados, come over here and don't interfere now. Absol, you will fight against one, and Tauros, you will fight against the other. Show me the result of your hard work," Axel commanded.
Since he was so busy with elemental rank and common rank battles, he couldn't analyze their fight. He wanted to see how strong they had become.

"Yes, I have been waiting for this day for quite some time now," replied Tauros.
"Alright, let's see who would win first."
"Yes, let's do that," replied Tauros, and both of them charged towards their enemies.

Absol and Tauros had not learned any new moves. They had only practiced their existing moves. Axel wanted them to be comfortable using their moves and to know when to use what attacks, dodge, defend, and let go. All of these skills came from experience and mastering their existing moves.

Absol Vs. Darmanitan
Axel looked at Darmanitan's stats:

It looked like it had recently ranked up. Its stats were not so impressive, and it had not mastered its abilities and hidden abilities well enough. But this made Axel give a warning.
"Absol, use 'Magic coat,'" Axel instructed.
The move, 'Magic coat,' would help the user defend and reflect any move that causes status conditions like 'Thunder wave' or 'Flamethrower.' However, Darmanitan had the ability 'Sheer Force,' which increased the power of the attack but would not have beneficial secondary effects.
This meant that if Darmanitan hit Absol with 'Flamethrower,' Absol might get burned since Darmanitan didn't have good mastery over its ability. So, Axel told Absol to use 'Magic coat' as a precaution.
Darmanitan started off with 'Earthquake,' a big move. Absol countered it with 'Stone edge' and used 'Rock polish' twice to increase its speed. It then employed 'Dark pulse,' but Darmanitan managed to dodge the attack and used 'Fire spin,' which trapped Absol in a vortex of fire.
"Sol...."
Absol cried painfully as the vortex of fire closed in and started to hurt it.
"ROARRR," Darmanitan cried too.
Axel's warning had been right, and Darmanitan did get burned. But being burned, it couldn't continue the attack, giving Absol time to use 'Hone claws' to increase its attack and accuracy. Absol then moved toward Darmanitan with increased speed and used 'Night slash,' slashing its horn into Darmanitan's chest, leaving a deep gash.
Axel wanted to take the opportunity and hurt it even more, trying to use 'Dark pulse' again, but Darmanitan interrupted with 'Flamethrower,' hitting Absol in close proximity.
"Sol..."
It was flown off and crashed to the ground. This move had injured Absol.
Darmanitan wanted to take advantage and then used 'Work up' to increase its attack stats.
It wanted to finish it up and immediately used 'Thrash'. A white light enveloped Darmanitan and it rushed towards Absol. It was looking like a bull was going to impale a human.
Just when it was close to Absol, it turned to the left side and Absol went to the right and perfectly dodged the attack. Darmanitan crashed into the trunk of the tree and it immediately became confused.
When Darmanitan was in the process to impale Absol with Thrash, Absol had already used 'Stealth rock' around it. When it came close, the point rocks impaled its feet and it subconsciously turned left. Now, its feet were bleeding due to those pointy rocks.
This was it defense mechanism that Absol came up with when it was training with Tauros. Tauros also knew 'Thrash' and it had high speed due to 'Wild charge'. So, Absol had to come up with a way to defend itself.
Carefully planning 'Stealth rocks' was the perfect counter for it.
Absol immediately went near it and used 'Feint Attack' on the injured chest of Darmanitan. It then used 'Dark pulse' in point blank range on the injured chest too.
This time the attack connected. Since it was injured, hurt in its feet, and confused, it could no longer make any sense of its surroundings. A dark beam was the last thing it saw before it closed its eyes forever.
The battle was over.
Absol did well. Axel was also planning on how to further train it. First, it lacked defensive moves. A number of moves like 'Assurance' and 'Payback' depended on the condition that it was to be hit first. So, it naturally needed to have a good defense.

Tauros Vs. Darmanitan

This was a powerful rare rank Pokemon, with good mastery over its abilities and an extensive move pool. Axel didn't know how experienced it was in fighting, but if it used its moves wisely, Tauros would be in trouble. Although its stats were much lower than Tauros, its diverse moveset posed a challenge.
Tauros started with 'Swords dance' to increase its attack but had to dodge the 'Flamethower' coming at it. It then used 'Earthquake,' and Darmanitan countered with its own 'Earthquake' before using 'Fire spin.' The attack hit Tauros, and 'Sheer force' seemed to activate, as the power of the attack was very high.
"ROARRR.."
Tauros gave a low roar but wasn't brought down just by this attack. It shook its head and got ready to strike back. It used 'Electric Terrain' and smacked its toes on the ground, charging towards Darmanitan with its horns glowing in white light.
Darmanitan, at the same time, used 'Psychic terrain' and 'Confusion.' The attack hit Tauros, and it got confused. However, Tauros remained calm, taking deep breaths. It moved to the right, trying to dodge an imaginary attack as it had no idea where Darmanitan was due to its confusion.
Darmanitan used 'Work up' and then 'Fire punch,' but Tauros evaded the punch. Darmanitan then hit Tauros with a brilliant plan, using 'Super power.' The fighting-type move was super effective against Tauros.
"MOOOO...."
Tauros crashed to the ground.
'Superpower' was a powerful attack but it lowered attack and defense stat of the user while attacking.
Darmanitan had the solution for that too. It suddenly glowed in purple light. Axel knew that it was a psychic type move and what he feared happened.
The purple glow went on to Tauros and then came up to Darmanitan again.
"Mooooooo"
Tauros's pain could be felt from its sound and low roars.
Darmanitan had used 'Power swap' and 'Guard swap'.
'Power swap' would let the user exchange attack and special attack stat with the enemy and 'Guard swap' did the same for defense and special defense stat.
All of its stat was lower than Tauros. It also used 'Superpower' which further lowered its attack and defense stat.
Now, it had the stats of Tauros which was way higher than itself. Tauros had the degraded stats of Darmanitan with even lowered attack and defensive stat.
Tauros was already hurt by the attack. With the increase in its stats, it used 'Work up' again to boost its attack stat.
It decided to use 'Super power' one more time and finish that Tauros. It knew that it would still be killed by other Pokemon but it wanted to take this Tauros with it.
