Chapter 299: Level up
Chapter 299: Level up
"I am going to share something with you. It's about my secret. Since you are my Pokémon, I believe you should know about it..."
Axel proceeded to reveal all the secrets about the system to Light and Marcus. Surprisingly, the system didn't hinder him from sharing this information with his Pokémon.
"We already suspected that there was something unique about you," Alakazam remarked.
"Really? You knew? Then why didn't you ask?" Axel inquired.
"Axel, we are not fools. We noticed the changes, especially after you caught me and I practically became a pseudo-king. We just didn't ask because it didn't matter to us," Alakazam explained.
After a heartfelt conversation with Alakazam and Marcus, Axel decided to divulge his secret to all of his Pokémon. It felt like a weight lifted off his shoulders. Previously, he had felt burdened by keeping the world on his shoulders, but now he had the support of his Pokémon.
His first order of business was to train Charizard in the move 'Ancient Power'. He wanted to see what would happen when Charizard reached level 40. With the assistance of Mamoswine, Charizard quickly mastered the new move.
Mamoswine had already settled down and adjusted to its increased size and power. Now, Axel wanted to level up one of Mamoswine's moves to 40 and create a new move. There were ten moves currently at level 39: Ice Shard, Icy Wind, Icicle Crash, Mist, Earthquake, Icicle Spear, Dig, Rain Dance, Blizzard, and Hail.
After careful consideration, Axel decided to choose one move from 'Hail', 'Rain Dance', and 'Icicle Spear'. His main reason for not selecting 'Earthquake' or 'Dig' was that they were not ice-type moves and leveling them up would prove challenging. 'Ice Shard' and 'Icicle Crash' were lesser versions of 'Icicle Spear'. 'Icy Wind', 'Mist', and 'Blizzard' seemed like good choices for leveling up, but Axel had a specific reason for selecting these three moves.
'Hail', 'Rain Dance', and 'Icicle Spear' were crucial components of a new move he had in mind called 'Ice Domain'. If he could level up one of those moves to 40, it would enhance the effect of 'Ice Domain'.
After careful consideration, Axel decided to upgrade 'Hail' to level 40. Hail offered numerous benefits and effects:
1. It would increase the evasiveness of Pokémon under the 'Snow Cloak' ability, which was Mamoswine's ability.
2. It would enhance the accuracy and power of Blizzard.
3. With the exception of certain Pokémon, their HP would decrease.
4. The power of 'Solar Beam' and 'Solar Blade' would diminish.
5. Moves like 'Synthesis', 'Morning Sun', and 'Moonlight' would have reduced effects.
6. And more.
One particular effect caught Axel's interest—the second point. It increased the effect of 'Blizzard', but not all ice-type attacks. Axel could sense that as the move leveled up, other ice-type attacks had increased effects, although the change was so subtle that a normal person wouldn't even notice. Axel wanted to level up the move in a way that would enhance the accuracy and power of every ice-type attack.
This task wasn't as challenging as it seemed. 'Hail' already summoned literal chunks of ice from the sky, so it was possible to achieve the desired effect. Axel explained his plan to Mamoswine, and it began to work on mastering the technique.
Although the training was relatively straightforward, Axel couldn't directly explain it to Mamoswine. The Pokémon started using 'Hail' as instructed. The environment swiftly transformed, even though it was daytime. Axel observed black clouds forming, and chunks of ice began to fall. He then instructed Mamoswine to use ice-type moves like Icicle Spear to gauge the effects.
Unfortunately, there were no noticeable changes. After attempting this four more times, Axel devised a plan. He decided to teach Mamoswine a move called 'Ice Beam', which allowed the user to launch a beam made of pure ice capable of freezing the target. Ice Beam was a relatively simple move to learn, and Mamoswine grasped it within 30 minutes.
Axel chose this move due to its simplicity. Moves like 'Icicle Spear' were more complex, requiring the user to shape the ice into a spear and throw it. In contrast, 'Ice Beam' allowed the user to throw a beam of ice, a simpler yet highly effective technique. Mamoswine trained in this move for two days, and astonishingly, it reached level 30 within that time. Axel was amazed by the progress.
Was this due to Mamoswine's evolution, an increase in its potential, or the new tab of Ancient Power in its status? Axel couldn't be certain, but he was satisfied with the progress. He instructed Mamoswine to gather all the black clouds before commencing Hail. Axel wanted the area to be as cold as possible.
Following Axel's guidance, Mamoswine trained by using Hail and then Ice Beam to observe the effects.
"No, no... You're focusing too much on 'Ice Beam' and subconsciously trying to make it stronger. Concentrate more on Hail," Axel provided continuous instructions. After another two days of intense training, he received a notification.

Ding!
Mamoswine's Hail has leveled up to 40.
---
"Well done, Mamoswine. Now you just need to train in a way that enhances the power of ice-type attacks beyond their current level," Axel commended.
---
Ding!
Due to the effect of Hail, Ice Domain has leveled up to 40.
---
"Oh, that's a pleasant surprise," Axel exclaimed, pleased with the outcome.
