Chapter 297: The Milotic and Claydol Showcase
Chapter 297: The Milotic and Claydol Showcase
The matchups for the semi-finals were quickly determined, and surprisingly, the two top contenders, Robert and Suzuye, were set to face each other in the semi-finals.
The first match of the semi-finals featured Sora against Ruoyu.
Sora's two Pokémon were Bellosom and Noctowl. Both had appeared in previous matches and exhibited formidable strength, showcasing seamless synergy in their battles.
Ruoyu seemed to be a Coordinator specializing in Ghost-type Pokémon, with her lineup consisting of Drifblim and Dusclops.
Although Ruoyu displayed strong skills, she couldn't quite match Sora's expertise in Pokémon coordination. In the end, Sora outscored her with precise strategies, leading to her defeat.
Sora advanced to the finals.
Next up was the match between Robert and Suzuye.
Standing at opposite ends of the arena, though they remained expressionless, Robert's palms were sweating.
Suzuye, on the other side, said to Robert, "We meet again."
"Yes, we do! But this time, I won't lose," Robert said with determination in his voice.
"I can't afford to lose either."
With Suzuye's words, she released her two Pokémon, Clefable and Gallade.
Suzuye had previously used Clefable and Meganium, but this time, Gallade made its debut, likely her hidden ace.
Clefable and Gallade swiftly assumed battle stances as they were released, indicating their deep familiarity and synergy.
On the opposite side, Robert also released his Pokémon.
With a flash of red light, Claydol and Milotic appeared on the battlefield.
The moment Milotic appeared, the arena erupted in enthusiastic cheers because the Milotic before them was exceptionally beautiful.
"Miiilotic!"
As Milotic gently waved its fan-like tail, its voice spread throughout the arena. Everyone felt a soothing energy enveloping their hearts, even though they couldn't see or touch it— they could truly sense it.
Both Suzuye and Robert had their hidden strategies. Robert's Milotic and Claydol were both powerful and displayed incredible synergy, making them his strongest and most harmonious duo.
"This Milotic has been cultivated to perfection," one of the judges, Nurse Joy, marveled.
"Yes, whether it's the coloration or physique, it's nearly flawless," another Nurse Joy commented.
"Have you noticed that every Pokémon Robert selects has an outstanding appearance, especially this Milotic?" the final Nurse Joy added.
Little did the Nurse Joys know that Robert possessed the YoYo Day Care Beautie Pokéblock, and and it would be weird if it appearance didn't have any bright spots.
As the signal to begin the match sounded, Milotic from Robert's side took the initiative.
A magnificent ice-blue beam of light transformed into a sword-like projection, aiming straight at Gallade.
Upon seeing this, Gallade's two arms quickly manifested two green energy blades. After a swift and stylish clash, Milotic's Ice Beam turned into blue dots, enhancing Gallade's majestic appearance.
Robert's performance score decreased instantly.
With the shattered Ice Beam, Gallade swiftly dashed towards Milotic and Claydol, leaving streaks behind on the battlefield.
"Claydol, Reflect!"
Despite Gallade's incredible speed, Claydol's Reflect blocked his approach when he got near Milotic.
Seizing the opportunity, Milotic delivered a powerful Dragon Tail strike to Gallade's waist, nearly bending it out of shape.
Gallade was sent flying and landed heavily in front of Clefable.
Suzuye's score took a significant hit, and she fell behind Robert.
Gallade's experience taught us that even when dealing with close combat, you shouldn't take it lightly; it might leave you with a sore waist.
"Clefable, Heal Pulse!"
Suzuye's Clefable responded by casting a Heal Pulse.
Suzuye immediately wanted her support Pokémon, Clefable, to tend to the injured Gallade.
However, before Suzuye could finish speaking, Robert issued his command.
"Milotic, Heal Block!"
Just as Clefable was about to use Heal Pulse, it seemed as though she had suddenly lost her voice, looking rather embarrassed.
Robert was evidently extremely familiar with his old rival's Clefable, having already planned a counter-strategy to nullify her healing capabilities.
Clefable's failed skill usage caused Suzuye's performance score to drop significantly once again.
Despite the pain, Gallade managed to climb to his feet. He suddenly disappeared from the battlefield, and when he reappeared, he was already behind Milotic.
With Lead Blade, he struck Milotic, causing Milotic to cry out in pain. The audience couldn't help but frown in response.
Milotic's long tail swiped through the air, but it missed its target as Gallade had swiftly returned to his original position.
While everyone marveled at Gallade's Teleport, three identical Clefable had appeared on the battlefield at some point and began singing a song.
It was Clefable's signature move, Substitute and Round.
Substitute and Round was a move that increased in power with each additional Pokémon used, and with three Clefable performing it simultaneously, its power was awe-inspiring.
Beautiful circular ripples spread throughout the arena, accompanied by melodious singing. Robert's performance score instantly dropped to a level similar to Suzuye's.
"Milotic, Recover! Claydol, Light Barrier!"
With Claydol's Light Barrier defense, the continuous waves of Substitute and Round finally disappeared, and Robert's Claydol immediately shifted from defense to offense.
First, it used Power Swap, exchanging its defense with attack stats, followed by a devastating Earth Power.
The Clefable responsible for defense rushed forward and attempted to use Light Barrier, but it quickly realized that its Light Barrier had inexplicably failed. Moments later, it was knocked to the ground by Earth Power.
It turned out that Claydol had quietly use Imprison move on Gallade and Clefable's.
Originally, this was to prevent Gallade's Teleport, and It use on Clefable's was just an Incidental. Unexpectedly, it had turned into a pleasant surprise.
Gallade attempted to retreat upon seeing the situation but was pushed back by a fierce blizzard.
With the help of Claydol's delay tactics, Milotic successfully used Recover.
The successive combination of moves from Claydol and Milotic caused Suzuye's performance score to plummet.
The intense blizzard turned the entire battlefield into ice, making it impossible for Gallade to maintain his balance or counterattack.
Seeing this, Robert slapped his forehead, wondering why he hadn't thought of using the blizzard to change the battlefield earlier. After all, his Milotic and Claydol were unaffected by it.
As the final bell signaling the end of the match rang, Robert emerged victorious by a wide margin, and the entire audience erupted in cheers.
He had won! Robert let out a sigh of relief.
