Chapter 251: The Thunderstorm Near Verdant Town
Chapter 251: The Thunderstorm Near Verdant Town
Watching the seamless coordination between Plusle and Minun, Yuga couldn't help but feel a bit envious. So, he released his own Chimecho, hoping it would someday be as helpful as Plusle and Minun.
While Yuga and Misaki were engrossed in discussing Pokéblock production techniques, Plusle and Minun suddenly emitted unusual electrical currents.
"Plusle, Minun, what's going on with you two?" Yuga inquired.
Plusle and Minun exchanged glances and then dashed out of the workshop. Yuga and Misaki found their behavior strange and hurriedly followed them.
Plusle and Minun ran all the way to the front of the shop and stood there, hand in hand, gazing at the distant sky.
Unable to resist their curiosity, Yuga and Misaki followed their gazes, looking up at the sky.
In the southwest of Verdant Town, the sky had become overcast with thick, dark clouds that seemed as if they were about to descend upon the earth. Within those pitch-black clouds, lightning flickered ominously, causing even Electric-type Pokémon like Plusle and Minun to shudder.
"What's happening there? Is it going to rain?" Misaki asked.
Yuga stared at the distant dark clouds and replied, "I don't know."
Not only Yuga and Misaki, but many of the town's neighbors had also come out of their homes to observe the eerie thunderclouds in the distance.
Electric-type Pokémon kept coming outdoors too, their bodies occasionally sparking with electricity, much like Plusle and Minun.
However, unlike the others, Yuga could vaguely make out a blurry figure stirring within the thunderclouds. Since his encounter with the Light of Life, his senses had become sharper, and he suspected that a powerful Pokémon might be responsible for this phenomenon, possibly originating from the nearby Petalburg Woods to the southwest of Verdant Town.
Could it have any connection to Luna and the others' assessment there? Yuga wondered.
He quickly shook his head, dismissing the idea. Luna and her group were inexperienced rookies; they couldn't possibly provoke such a formidable Pokémon.
Yuga suspected that the Pokémon within those thunderclouds might be even more potent than Joyna Latias, but due to the distance, he couldn't discern its true identity.
As the clouds continued to thicken, and the golden lightning grew brighter, Yuga noticed countless Magnemite, Magneton, and Magnezone all flying towards the vicinity of the thunderclouds. They were drawn to it, seemingly compelled to approach, even though they were struck down by the lightning before they could get close.
Observing the expanding thunderclouds, the residents of Verdant Town grew increasingly anxious, worrying that the storm might spread directly over the town. The sight of those clouds alone felt oppressive, and the prospect of a closer encounter was unsettling.
Just then, Yuga suddenly saw an orange silhouette dive into the thunderclouds, causing the black storm clouds to intensify their turbulence.
Due to the incredible speed of the orange figure and the distance involved, Yuga couldn't make out what it was, but he was certain it was a Pokémon.
The thick black clouds, though, were impenetrable even to Yuga's keen eyesight. He could only see the black clouds churning like boiling water, occasionally releasing bursts of golden lightning and sporadic blue flashes.
The Magnemite family, drawn to the clouds' vicinity, were like bullets, shot down by the crackling lightning but quickly regrouping and approaching again, seemingly compelled by an unseen force.
As the blue flashes and golden lightning continued to intertwine, the gathered Magnemite, Magneton, and Magnezone were suddenly suspended in mid-air as if something had taken hold of them. They involuntarily ascended into the sky and stopped near the thunderclouds.
Following this, countless electric currents began emanating from the Magnemite family, flowing into the thunderclouds as if they were recharging a mysterious entity inside.
When the flow of electric currents ceased, the Magnemite family dropped from the sky like dumplings.
Absorbing the electrical energy from the Magnemite family, the black thunderclouds turned progressively golden. A massive, sturdy golden lightning bolt pierced the entire cloud, and an orange silhouette was expelled from it, still moving at an incredible speed, too fast for Yuga to discern its true form.
After the orange figure was expelled, the thunderclouds, glittering with golden lightning, suddenly burst open like a fireworks display. The previously vague silhouette was now fully revealed.
Zapdos!
At this moment, not only Yuga but all the residents of Verdant Town witnessed the appearance of the "God of Thunder."
"Squaa!"
Zapdos in the sky let out a resounding cry, causing everyone in Verdant Town to instinctively cover their ears.
The sound was incredibly penetrating, as if it could pierce through eardrums directly.
While Yuga's discerning eye couldn't ascertain the legendary Pokémon's exact circumstances or its relative strength compared to other legendary Pokémon, he was certain that Zapdos was far more powerful than Joyna's Latias.
Just based on its unparalleled mastery of lightning control, it outclassed Latias by miles.
If Latias had engaged in battle at the same level as Zapdos had once, Verdant Town would likely have been reduced to ruins under its electric rampage. However, Zapdos expertly contained all the lightning within the thunderclouds, causing no harm to the surrounding environment.
Of course, the unfortunate victims were the Magnemite family.
What intrigued Yuga even more was the orange figure that had challenged Zapdos. What kind of Pokémon could it be? Could it also be a legendary Pokémon?
While it ultimately lost the battle, its power was undeniable, at least on par with Latias.
