Chapter 871: Engagement Gift

The employee thought, Little Shaohui and Li Rui are children with the same father but different mothers. If Li Lei loves Li Rui less, he’ll then love Shaohui more.
Isn’t this a dead-end for Li Rui and his mother?
Even he felt anxious for them.
There was literally no way to answer this question right.
Li Rui did not think so far, he simply said, “My mom is a good person! Your mom is horrid!”
But Su Tang knew better and thought even further than the employee. Li Rui wasn’t Li Lei’s flesh and blood. Given how badly he insulted Li Lei’s beloved woman, who knew if Li Lei would get even with them? Although she’d saved Li Lei’s life once, gratitude would run thin eventually. What she needed to do now was to strengthen their relationship while Li Lei still had some gratitude towards her, and not make Li Lei detest them over this bickering.
She grabbed Li Rui by the arm and chided him sternly. “Nonsense! Don’t be rude!” Her expression turned awful, out of worry and of the need to put on a show for the rest.
Li Rui rarely saw her this fierce. He felt wronged and began wailing. “Bad Mom! Bad Mom!”
Xia Ling looked at the child with despise. Just how did Su Tang raise this child? How could a lady as elegant as she raise a child to be such a rascal?
What she did not know was that Su Tang never liked the child, to begin with. If it wasn’t for using him, she would not even have given birth to him, much less raised him.
Li Rui wailed even louder, and it was getting on their nerves.
Su Tang slapped him on the face. “Why are you crying! Apologize to Miss Ling and Shaohui!”
She was still plotting in her mind—the more miserable Li Rui appeared to be, the easier it was to prove that Xia Ling and Shaohui were bullying them. Once this news got to Li Lei, even if it wouldn’t change his feelings towards Xia Ling immediately, he’d remember Xia Ling for her arrogant and domineering behavior, and Su Tang for her accommodating compromise...
Eventually, things would change and Li Lei would finally understand who among them was suitable for him.
Su Tang had it all planned out, but she did not expect that her slap would cause Li Rui to lose all rationality. He needed to find a way to vent his anger—with all his energy, he ran towards Little Shaohui with his head angled out while yelling, “I’ll knock you down to death, you monster!”
Little Shaohui followed his uncle around in the mountains when he was younger and then went on to learn defense tactics from Li Lei, Ah Nuo, and others. He agilely got out of Li Rui’s way and ducked him. Meanwhile, Li Rui couldn’t stop his momentum and rammed his head into the wall.
He fell onto the floor and bawled even louder than before.
Xia Ling was getting a headache from all the noise. All she wanted was to order a tailor-made suit for their engagement, why did she have to bump into such a rascal? She covered her ears and said to Su Tang, “Aren’t you going to check if he’s injured? Get someone to send him to the hospital, what are you waiting for?”
She wasn’t being kind, the noise was just getting to her.
Su Tang looked at her son coldly and felt that he was an utter embarrassment. He was a bastard alright, with the blood of a barbarian flowing through his veins—uncultured and uncivilized! When she became Li Lei’s official wife, she would bear Li Lei a child of their own and get rid of this bastard child!
She looked devious as she harbored that thought.
The employee who had been observing her all along was terrified by her expression. Afraid that things would get worse, he hurriedly intervened. “Miss Su, the child is so young, it’d be bad if he’s injured. I’ll carry him to the car for you.” He picked the child up and walked out of the store.
Su Tang did not stop him. It wasn’t so bad, after all—with Li Rui ending up in the hospital, they’d still appear to be the vulnerable party in this scenario. If Li Lei got wind of it, it’d sound like Xia Ling was being the mean one. She glanced at Xia Ling and Little Shaohui before following the employee out of the store.
Xia Ling was finally relieved as she stopped covering her ears.
Another employee had cleared the mess that Li Rui had caused and rearranged the items on the shelf. He brought a few cushioned chairs to Xia Ling and said, “I’m sorry, Miss Ling, for having to let you witness that. Please continue looking around, we’ll make sure to get it done for you as soon as possible.”
Xia Ling couldn’t be bothered about Su Tang. She calmed herself down and continued browsing. The haze-shaded silk-cashmere was simply too beautiful. She looked at it over and over again and finally decided to get it. “I’ll take this. Tailor one according to the measurements I handed you, alright?”
The employee carefully took the fabric off the shelf and attached a sticker—with her name and date of collection—on it. He smiled. “Don’t worry, Miss Ling. We’ll surely meet your expectations.” He then told his colleague to get the best tailor for this order.
Xia Ling then ordered another set for Little Shaohui before leaving the store.
Their service was top-notch indeed, it took them a mere few days to get both suits completed.
Xia Ling got Little Shaohui to try it on first on the spot. It was extremely fitting and satisfactory.
She then took a look at Li Lei’s suit. The unique textile was a perfect choice for a suit. It glistened slightly under the light and added a tinge of prestige and romance to a typical men’s suit.
She ran her fingers over that beautiful suit and could already imagine how handsome her beloved man would look in it. She smiled and said to Little Shaohui, “Be good at home, alright? Mom is going to Dad’s office for a while to hand him the suit.”
Little Shaohui nodded his head and saw her out.
Xia Ling planned to give Li Lei a surprise and hence did not call him to let him know she was coming. When she arrived at the top-floor Director’s office, the secretary sitting outside gave a strange expression.
Xia Ling asked, “Is Li Lei inside?”
The secretary said, “Boss is inside, but...”
Before the sentence was finished, she had already entered. She’d never have to ask for permission whenever she came, but this time, the scene that greeted her gave her a shock—behind a screen, she saw a woman back-facing her and talking to Li Lei. “I got a few suits tailored for you. Considering that you’re about to be engaged, you can consider this my engagement gift to you.”
