He Chen had the best temper out of everyone in 129. But that didn’t mean that she was a pushover.
She only answered, “Yes, I’ve ruined your reputation, but I’ve never asked to be born into this world.”
Her dad kept quiet for a while, before screaming unbelievably. “What did you say? I dare you to say it again!?”
He Chen put down the can of beer as she held onto her belly. She accidentally tugged on her wound, and the pain caused her to break out in cold sweat.
The blood soaked through the bandage and stained her white shirt.
“Why don’t you publicize it in the newspaper that we are no longer related,” she coldly said.
She immediately hung up the phone after saying that.
The only sound in the room was from the variety show on the television.
He Chen continued to lie on the sofa as she reached for the can of beer. But before she could sip on it, the doorbell rang.
The attendant should have seen the “Do Not Disturb” label that she hung on the door.
It stopped ringing after a while.
He Chen did not pay much attention to it as she continued to watch her show while laying on the sofa.
In a matter of minutes, a chat interface suddenly appeared on the computer screen.
It took up two-thirds of the screen.
It was a simple interface, with a white background and black characters.
There were only three words in the chatbox—
[Open the door.]
It was straight to the point.
It couldn’t be anyone but Qin Ran.
He Chen saw the words and then headed to the door.
She thought it would be Cheng Shui and the gang.
Hence, she didn’t put much thought into it when she opened the door.
However, the person she saw was a masked Qin Xiuchen.
He was using the phone, probably chatting with someone.
The lighting in the corridor wasn’t great. The only thing He Chen could make out was a shadow.
It took her a while to recognize who it was. She asked, “Film Emperor Qin?”
“Ran Ran asked me to bring you some supplies. Are you alright?” Qin Xiuchen said as he removed the mask. He frowned as he saw the bloodstains on her shirt.
Qin Xiuchen was now a superstar. Due to the effort he put into international publicity, he could now be recognized even in Continent M.
He Chen gave way to him and then asked, “I’m alright. Did Ran Ran ask you to come?”
Qin Xiuchen just wanted to pass her the medication and leave after telling her the instructions. He didn’t want to enter her room.
He was a disciplined man in this regard.
If it wasn’t for filming a scene, he would never enter a room that belonged to the opposite sex.
However, He Chen was a friend of his niece. He entered after seeing her pale face.
He picked up a distinct alcohol smell the moment he entered.
Looking around the room, he saw a beer can on the table and a messy room.
A variety show was even playing on the TV.
Qin Ling was solving an IQ lock on the show as the other guests looked at him.
“I’m sorry, my room is in a mess. Do you want something to drink?” He Chen said as she walked to the mini-fridge. However, she could only see alcohol in it. There was only a small bottle of mineral water.
“It’s alright,” Qin Xiuchen said as he left the bag of items on the table. He then turned towards her and said, “Ran Ran said that you refused to come out of the room and asked me to help get the medication. Can you take care of it yourself?”
He wasn’t going to poke his nose in her business.
He Chen answered, “Yes, I can. I’m sorry for troubling you.”
Her wound was on her stomach, so it wasn’t hard for her to tend to her wounds.
Qin Xiuchen then answered gently, “Ran Ran is really worried about you.”
Otherwise, she wouldn’t have asked him to take a look personally.
He Chen looked at him and realized that Film Emperor Qin was like what everyone said. He kept a distance from all females. The only reason he was behaving this way was because of Qin Ran.
He Chen picked up the bag and then went to tend to her wound.
Qin Xiuchen didn’t know what she was going through and wasn’t in a position to make any comments. He could only sigh at the environment that she was in.
When He Chen returned from tending to her wounds, Qin Xiuchen had left.
The empty beer cans were gone. Only three cans were left neatly placed on the table.
Qin Xiuchen had opened the window to reduce the alcohol smell.
The only sound in the room was from the variety show on the television.
Jing Wen’s cousin was having the time of his life on the show. It had a joyous mood.
However, He Chen couldn’t feel any joy as she leaned on the wall.
After a while, when she walked towards the sofa, the door rang again.
The sound caused He Chen to have a headache.
She opened the door.
It was Qin Xiuchen. He didn’t remove his mask this time, but she could tell that he was smiling. He passed her a packet of food.
“There’s a Chinese street nearby. This food is pretty good. I’ll ask Brother Chen to pass you the contact later.”
As it was getting late, Qin Xiuchen left after he picked up a phone call.
He Chen stood at the door. She could tell that the person was Qin Ran as she heard Qin Xiuchen’s voice.
She smiled at the kind gesture but sighed soon after.
He Chen closed the door.
She sat at the table and then ate the food as she watched the show.
Her phone rang.
She didn’t ignore it this time and picked it up. It was her assistant.
She continued to eat while she answered the call.
“I’m done printing your work. But...” The assistant hesitated. “Are you sure we can show this?”
It concerned Qin Xiuchen. If this was publicized, it would cause a huge uproar.
He Chen took a bite of the food. She pondered for a while and answered, “It’s fine.”
The assistant trusted that she wouldn’t make a mistake and answered, “Alright, I’ll send it to the managers.”
The assistant hung up, then the crew asked excitedly, “How is it?”
The assistant clenched her fist. “She agreed. I’ll go look for them.”
The crew breathed a sigh of relief as they sat down on the stool. One of them then said, “Things are finally getting exciting.”
...
In the Capital, at Universal Plaza’s HQ.
It was the first time a world-class photo exhibition was held within the country. It was a sign that the country’s photography scene was world-class.
It was an important matter. The works exhibited today were from the Masters of photography.
Reporters were all over the venue before it officially began.
The judges were masters in their craft as well, but only one of them was Chinese.
He was sitting in his office frowning and lamenting. “All of our photographers failed. The best one only got 5 approvals.”
For the work to be qualified for display, it had to at least get the approvals of half of the judges.
The higher-ups fell silent after what he said.
Even though they were the host country, none of their works qualified for the exhibition. It would be embarrassing for the country.
It would affect the photography industry in the country as well.
Hence, they couldn’t display subpar work.
It was a pivotal step for them to host this exhibition. The works on display today had gone through international inspection. Even if they allowed a random photo to be displayed, they would be humiliated when the public saw it.
This was why the judges didn’t know how to solve the issue.
Suddenly, someone knocked on the door and announced, “Mr. Zhou, someone just submitted their work.”
“A new entry?” The judge and the higher-ups exchanged glances. The review process was almost ending, so they didn’t expect any more entries. They asked. “Whose is it?”
“HE,” the assistant answered as he walked in with the work.
HE?
HE was the photographer that showed her talent in the American photography exhibition previously. She took the spot as one of the top ten scenery photographers in the world with just three shots.
However, HE disappeared for a few years after that exhibition. Subsequent exhibitions couldn’t contact her as well.
The project director for this year’s exhibition invited HE as well, but they didn’t have high hopes.
But who would have thought that HE would show up this time?
“She has new works?” The judge stood up excitedly and asked. “What is it this time?”
The other higher-ups came over as well.
“HE” was famous in the industry. Her three scenery photos became a legend in the industry.
Hence, as professionals, they were curious about what she created this time.
The assistant holding her work gently placed it on the table and answered, “The person who delivered it said that it was a portrait shot.”
A portrait?
Their expressions changed.
Everyone knew that “HE” specialized in scenery photography.
Everyone had their own specialization in this industry.
Even though a master in scenery photos wouldn’t be that bad in taking portrait photos, it couldn’t be compared to her specialized field.
They didn’t need an “alright” work, they needed something that could match up to the works created by the other masters.
The judge sighed and lamented. “Why did she send a portrait?”
The assistant came back with a knife to unbox the work.
