Chapter 152 - 152: 129: Are you worthy to judge me?
Chapter 152 - 152: 129: Are you worthy to judge me?
The Mountain God voiced a warning he would usually never utter, even if there was an inscrutable old monk reciting scriptures not far away.
For He knew where the opportunities from this mountain came from and who they were due to. When He was seeking for the way and pursuing the Dharma years ago, He never saw a monk of goodwill present him with the teachings of the scriptures.
He certainly could have kept silent, willingly accepting these benefits. After all, the monks passing down these teachings probably wouldn’t mind either; they were already prepared for such offerings.
However, this action was against His nature and His wishes, causing Him to feel upset and stifled. Therefore, knowing it would risk offending others, He still spoke out these words.
“Thank you for your warning, Mountain God. I truly have no desire to enter the Buddhist Gate, nor do I wish to interact with these bald heads. However, when someone is trying to steal my pet dog right in front of me, I can’t just turn a blind eye to it. Even if it requires placing a sword on his neck, I must retrieve my dog! ”
Feng Qing’an turned around and sincerely thanked the Mountain God standing in front of him.
“You may proceed then!”
Casting a glance at the antique sword hanging around Feng Qing’an’s waist, the Mountain God laughed lightly.
I wonder if the old monk has cultivated any form of invincible body recognized by the Buddhist Gate. However, even if he had, he probably wouldn’t be able to stop the might of this sword.
“Alright!”
The youngster turned around and proceeded. Amidst the Buddha sounds that reverberated throughout the ever corner of the mountain forest, he passed by mice, rabbits, tigers, wolves, roe deer, and antelopes, attentively listening to the Dharma, toward Black Mountain that was absorbed in the Zen Sound, standing on the perfect spot like a little tower.
“When do you plan to wake up from this trance?”
Feng Qing’an, disappointed in Black Mountain, kicked its hind leg hard. He had trained it hard in the ghostly fought blood battle, but after hearing a few words from an old monk, it collapsed.
“Woof-I’
With a reprimand from his soul contract and a slight physical pain, Black Mountain, which was chasing the golden wheel and exploring its secrets, suddenly woke up. Nearly at the same time, it saw Feng Qing’an, who was standing beside it, gazing at it without expression.
“Woof-”
Black Mountain issued a whimper. In an instant, it recalled everything and understood how disgraceful its conduct just now was. Thus, the embarrassed and angry wolf-dog spirit cast its fierce gaze to the old monk.
“Quiet! Don’t howl recklessly!”
Looking at the various mountain creatures engaged in Buddhism like drunk or entranced around the old monk, Feng Qing’an again kicked Black Mountain’s hind leg and reprimanded him via Soul Contract.
He might not like the scriptures; Black Mountain also could refuse to listen. Still, they both had their ways to cultivating to perfection. They couldn’t ruin the opportunities of all these mountain creatures.
For these birds and animals, it was a rare chance that could change their future. Feng Qing’an had already understood this from the Mountain God. Among them, perhaps some were similar to the Mountain God— yearning for the Dharma but unable to find it in the past.
“Come with me!”
Feng Qing’an cast a glance at the old monk sitting amongst flowers and herbs, his body surrounded by rays of Buddha’s light. At this moment, the old monk also raised his head, exchanged a glance with him, then continued to turn his Buddhist prayer beads, reciting and preaching sutras.
It seemed he wasn’t surprised or amazed by his arrival. Seeing Feng Qing’an, a human, as yet another creature of the mountain, he treated everyone equally. Though he didn’t wish to involve himself in Buddhist matters, Feng Qing’an couldn’t help admiring the old monk in his heart when he saw his demeanor. ‘He truly is an enlightened monk.’
“Woof-”
The enormous wolf-dog spirit abruptly shrunk into a small pet dog barely reaching Feng Qing’an’s waist, letting out an almost inaudible whimper.
“Let’s go!”
Feng Qing’an didn’t awaken all those wolf-dog spirits, lost in Zen Sound. Since the Mountain God said there was no problem with the monk preaching Buddhist teachings, he let them continue to listen. The benefits obtained without labor should not be wasted.
Although the Buddhist method of cultivation itself is to convert, and eventually turns into a monk, it still needs a certain level of realization to reach there. Not everyone could enter the Buddhist Gate.
Just because one cultivates the Buddhist method doesn’t guarantee them entry into the Buddhist gate. If you want to become a monk, you need real skills and abilities that one recognizes; otherwise, they won’t accept any junk.
Thus, Feng Qing’an felt that it was unlikely for these more than a hundred wolf-dog spirits to reach a level that would tickle the fancy of the Buddhist gate when he had not initiated his hand.
In contrast, the wolf-dog spirit, Black Mountain, which possessed the potential to be a demon king, was undoubtedly a desirable object for the
Buddha gate. Even immortal cultivators would want it if they spotted him.
With that, Feng Qing’an led Black Mountain back along the route they’d come on. He was even ready to be stopped by the old monk and therefore kept his hand on the handle of his sword, always prepared to draw the sword.
At this moment, a surge of displeasure brewed in his heart. If the old monk refused to reason, he would teach the old man the meaning of the truth!
However, even after Feng Qing’an took Black Mountain and left completely, up to the point where they could no longer hear the sound of Buddha reciting, the old monk did not show any intention of stopping them.
But what Feng Qing’an did not see was that right after he departed with Black Mountain, the old monk who proceeded to chant unmoved, broke into a sweat which soaked his coarse cloth, making it wet as if just retrieved from the water.
However, this phenomenon only lasted for a brief moment on the old monk, the creatures around him who were immersed in the Zen Sound didn’t notice it. The next moment, the moisture on the monk evaporated entirely, and he resumed his demeanor of being calm and composed, like an Enlightened
Monk..
