Chapter 338: The Little Gift I Bought for Him
It wasn’t that he was particularly knowledgeable about authentic brand products; it was mainly because that brand just happened to be a subsidiary of the Li Group. He had seen the marketing plan submitted by the brand when they launched this set of dolls, so he had some recollection of it.
Rong Yan quite liked the doll in her hand and, hearing the shop owner’s remark, also thought the craftsmanship was pretty good.
She decisively decided to buy the Q-version Little Pig she had seen earlier along with it and handed them to the owner, “I want these two. Please wrap them up for me.”
“Lady, have you made your choice? Do you want to buy another one?” The owner took them, wrapped them in a paper bag for her, and tried to sell one more with persistence.
Rong Yan shook her head and took the bag from him, “No, I just want these two. How much are they?”
The owner mentioned a sum.
Li Shengxiao was about to pay when Rong Yan beat him to it and handed the money to the owner. Then she pulled him away from the stall.
When they had walked a little further, Rong Yan finally let go of his hand.
Li Shengxiao pursed his lips and stared at her, asking, “Why didn’t you let me pay just now?”
He was her boyfriend, and although he had never been anyone’s boyfriend before, he knew the common sense of paying for his woman.
Did Rong Yan refuse to let him pay because she still wanted to keep a distance from him?
This realization made him feel as if a stone was lodged in his chest, and the feeling she had expressed earlier about splitting up if things didn’t work out surged back.
Rong Yan, unaware of what he was thinking, smiled and stopped.
“Because…”
She took out the bear doll in a suit she had just bought from the paper bag and suddenly handed it to him.
“Because this is a gift I wanted to buy for you, of course I can’t let you pay for it!”
“Heh,” she said with a touch of embarrassment, “I know this gift is too cheap, and what you gave me before was much more expensive than this.”
Embarrassed as she might be, Rong Yan wasn’t vain. She knew the economic disparity between her and this man was like that between heaven and earth. Even if she worked herself to the bone every day, not eating, drinking, or sleeping just to earn money, she couldn’t possibly be richer than him, so she said frankly, “Once I get the payment for ‘The Three Kingdoms,’ I’ll buy you another gift. This one is just a little token. You can throw it in your car as a small decoration.”
Li Shengxiao now held a fluffy little bear in his hand, and although he was someone who usually disliked plush products, now, unexpectedly, he did not mind it.
He lowered his gaze to look at the bear doll in his hand; the brown bear in a suit looked adorably clumsy.
He remembered what she’d said when she bought the Q-version Little Pig, how it resembled Duidui.
Gazing at the doll in his hand, he pursed his lips slightly.
But he felt not the slightest bit of displeasure.
Even though such dolls were things he would never have touched before!
Seeing that he had accepted it, Rong Yan beamed and said, “I think there are other things for sale up ahead. Let’s go have a look. I’m starting to feel a bit peckish; it’ll be a good chance to see if there are any snacks nearby.”
She suddenly felt the urge to eat bamboo caterpillar potatoes and stinky tofu.
Before she could walk away, Li Shengxiao suddenly grasped her wrist, pulled her towards him, and took her hand in his palm before hooking his lips and saying, “Let’s go!”
Rong Yan halted for a moment when he pulled her, and seeing him suddenly holding her hand, she felt a bit uncomfortable. But she was quickly getting used to it, and in no time at all, she was letting him hold her hand quite naturally…
