Chapter 211: 211: Little Baby Woke Up
“Mom …’
Rong Yan’s body tensed; she pushed away the man kissing her and her eyes filled with surprise, “Duidui, it’s Duidui waking up!”
“I heard it.” The last bit of worry in Li Shengxiao’s eyes finally dissipated as he let her go.
Overjoyed, Rong Yan sprang up, excitedly saying, “I’ll go check.”
Li Shengxiao also stood up, pulled out a chair, and said to her, “I’ll come with you.”
“Okay.”
Rong Yan’s heart and eyes were full of Little Baby. She just wanted to make sure that Little Baby was indeed awake. Suppressing her excitement, she walked with him but couldn’t help speeding up, rushing into the bedroom.
In the sprawling presidential suite bedroom, the little figure lying on the bed had somehow sat up and was now staring with wide eyes, full of fright. He looked like a little fold-ear cat abandoned by people, anxious and afraid.
“Duidui!”
The moment he saw Rong Yan, his eyes, filled with fear and insecurity, suddenly burst with astonishing brightness. He climbed down from the bed and ran toward her, barefoot and calling out, “Mom.”
He was afraid, so very afraid. So much water—he thought he would never see his Little Demon Rong again .
Rong Yan opened her arms and hugged him close, nearly being knocked down by the little one charging recklessly into her embrace. Fortunately, Li Shengxiao supported her from behind, preventing a fall. Not caring about herself, Rong Yan held the little one tight, continuously comforting him, “It’s alright; mom is here, don’t be scared.”
Little Baby in her arms shook uncontrollably, burying his head in her embrace, not saying a word, only incessantly calling out to her—a sign that the afternoon’s event had greatly frightened him.
She gently patted the quivering little figure in her arms, softly saying, “It’s fine, everything is alright now, Duidui. Mom is here. It’s all okay now.”
After she comforted for a while, the one who had rushed into her embrace slowly calmed down, the quaking of his body less intense. However, from the tightly clenched teeth, Rong Yan could tell that he hadn’t emerged from the afternoon’s shadows.
She moved the little one back onto the bed, wrapped him with a blanket, then picked up a fairy tale storybook. Lying beside him, she whispered, “Duidui, would you like mom to read you a storybook?”
The beautiful Little Baby’s eyes, grape-like in size, finally gained focus, settling on her.
Seeing his bewildered, frightened expression, Rong Yan wished even more that she could tear Rong Weiwei into pieces. Taking a deep breath, she opened the storybook and found one of the little guy’s favorite stories, starting to read slowly.
“A long, long time ago, in a far-off land, there lived an old man and an old woman. One day, by the river, they found a big, big peach .
Her voice was light and slow. Li Duidui, gripping her clothes tightly, relaxed his tense expression, and his little face showed signs of fatigue.
Rong Yan pulled him into her arms and continued to whisper the story into his ear. Gradually, the tense little figure started to nod off, his head bobbing slowly until, not long after, he fell asleep in her arms again .
“… And from that time on, the old man and old woman lived happily ever after with Momotaro.” She persisted in finishing the whole story, then gave a glance to the man who had been standing by the bed, quietly watching them.
Li Shengxiao looked deeply at the two on the bed, knowing that this accidental near-drowning had scared the five-year-old little guy. Seeing that he had fallen asleep, he didn’t want to disturb them and quietly left..
