Chapter 108 - 108: 108: Took Him to the Street-side Shop
“Can I really order whatever I want?”
Li Shengxiao raised his eyebrows. When had he ever skimped on her food?
“Anything at all!”
“Deal.” Rong Yan smiled and put down the Gilded Menu, taking the lead to pull out her chair and stand up, “Then let’s go somewhere else. What I want to eat isn’t here.”
Twenty minutes later, the Lincoln stopped at the entrance of a narrow alley.
Rong Yan got out of the car with Little Baby first, and Li Shengxiao followed, instructing the driver, “Wait here.”
“Yes, Mr. Li.”
He stood tall, striding forward with his long legs and signaling to the person by his side, “Let’s go.”
Now that Rong Yan had brought him to the shop’s doorway, she hesitated again. Holding the obedient Little Baby by the hand, her face showed her dilemma, “Well, Li Shengxiao, you might want to reconsider. The place I’m taking you might be quite different from where you usually go. You probably won’t be used to it.”
She looked towards the brightly lit, bustling food street brimming with desire, but she held back, grabbing his arm and saying, “Why don’t we turn back, to that Western restaurant you took me to?”
Li Shengxiao’s gaze fell on her pale little hand holding his own. His mood inexplicably lifted, and he curved his lips slightly, taking Little Baby from her hands, “I like whatever you want to eat. We’re already here; let’s go!” Because he liked her!
Li Duidui was content holding her mommy’s hand, but suddenly she was
handed over to someone else and became a bit reluctant. Before she could struggle, she was swept up into the man’s arms in one smooth motion.
Li Shengxiao’s other hand naturally took Rong Yan’s, and as he walked forward, he said, “It’s crowded here, and you’re injured. Stay close to me.”
The heat from his palm was so intense it made Rong Yan’s face flush. She uttered soft sounds of agreement and followed him, step for step.
Rong Yan had found a street known for its food, the most popular haunt of hole-in-the-wall eateries in Capital City. Many tourists visiting Capital City liked to dine here, and of course, many students, young couples, and office workers enjoyed hanging out in this area as well.
She had discovered it while she was studying and had eaten here a few times.
The taste was incredibly good; she had even missed these flavors when she was abroad!
This was Li Shengxiao’s first time in such a crowded area. Rong Yan eagerly took on the role of a tour guide, introducing him to the shops they passed, what they sold, and how it all tasted. As she reminisced and spoke, her stomach began to growl, and she found herself wanting to taste everything all over again.
After much anticipation, they finally reached a nondescript little shop at the end of the street. Her face glowed with excitement as she said, “Here we are, this is the place!”
Li Shengxiao was pulled into the establishment.
The shop’s less than 20 square meters were cramped and shabby, with the owner only having done the simplest of renovations. There were seven or eight tables placed inside. To save space, the chairs weren’t the kind with backs but the stackable plastic round stools commonly seen at street stalls.
They had arrived quite late, and while many people had already left, the place was still full. There was only one table left unoccupied.
Rong Yan hurried over, placing her phone on the table to claim it…
