Chapter 72 - 72: Annoying (Additional update from the second helmsman)
The Other Shore Flower’s team was working hard to clear the land, despite the fatigue setting in. They were persistent, even though there was less than an hour left.
The number of monsters slain by the three teams was also comparable, making it obvious that they were all more or less the same distance from the Cursed Altar. Any relaxation at this point was tantamount to giving up, meaning potentially losing the opportunity to advance to the next level.
They had already tasted victory at the Cow Mission earlier in the day. Although the foreigner had taken away most of the loot, they had managed to secure a piece of Blue Equipment. Even so, they were all green with envy at the rewards the foreigner had received.
Accidentally triggering a second Minotaur completely ignited their ambition.
They sent out many teams to find the Minotaur Silver Hero and had found a second, only to discover that Li Yao had reached the third one first.
“Vice President, why is Prairie Fire’s kill count escalating again?” The healers from the Other Shore Flower asked suddenly.
“Damn it.”
Seeing the rolling numbers on the statistics panel, Naihe Bridge (Chinese character name) had a bad premonition. He definitely didn’t believe that Li Yao was exterminating monsters out of fear and to aid them.
There was only one possibility left, and it left him doubtful. If so, one of their two teams would definitely be eliminated.
Thinking this, he was taken aback and hurriedly used the voice feature to broadcast in their area, “Prairie Fire, what are you doing? Why is your monster kill count increasing again?”
Several teams were eager for Li Yao’s reply, but he seemed not to hear their messages, as he didn’t respond. Nonetheless, his monster-killing speed was relentless and ever-changing. “Prairie Fire, answer us!”
“Hey!”
Li Yao replied via the area broadcast.
“Dude, are you messing with me?” Naihe Bridge was on the verge of snapping. He would certainly have lunged for Li Yao if he were in sight.
“Hm?”
Li Yao posted a single character in the area channel again. Then quiet, no other words.
Now, it wasn’t just the two Other Shore Flower guilds who were anxious, but also their allies, the Baihua Guild, who sensed that Li Yao was helping them.
Logically speaking, Li Yao would most likely assist the Baihua Guild. However, they couldn’t see that far, so they couldn’t be sure.
Li Yao was currently crucial, his monstrous killing speed rendered the rest to completely depend on him. If he chose to back any side, the other would be eliminated without a doubt.
Lily was the first to lose patience and used the voice feature in the area channel, “Prairie Fire, what are you really up to?”
“Killing monsters.” Li Yao responded with just two words, still not using voice chat.
Puff…
Everyone was infuriated. Obviously, he knew what they were asking; he was simply playing dumb.
What was most fearsome was the unknown, which was making everyone nervous. However, no one dared give up.
Lily rolled her eyes and glanced at Flaming Red Lips, seeing the latter frown. She then asked again, “You’re already at the altar, why keep killing monsters?”
While everyone else was busy killing monsters, they kept an eye on the channel, waiting for Li Yao’s response. After a while, he posted two words in the channel: “Leveling.”
Later, he added, “Leveling with my pet.”
This time, everyone resisted the urge to curse. The women looked annoyed.
Flaming Red Lips took a deep breath and asked via the voice chat, “Which direction are you in?”
“Hm? Haven’t really been paying attention. Let me check.”
Upon seeing Li Yao’s message, everyone held their breath. This was a decisive moment, the rewards for the second round were too irresistible, and no one would willingly give it up.
Especially those who were close to War God from the Baihua Guild, they were eager for confirmation.
“Seems like the east.”
All players then turned to look at the sky, seeking the sun. It instantly fluttered the hearts of the Other Shore Flower members. The setting sun was behind them.
“Well done. That settles the issue between us.” Lily patted her chest and declared.
Li Yao.
Eyes widened; the women were at a loss for words. Usually, players who encountered these beautiful ladies would be a lot more attentive, but this man was acting exceptionally dismissive; it was somewhat unbearable.
“Buddy, you aren’t joking with us, right?” Naihe Bridge asked, clinging to one last shred of hope.
And then, no response from Li Yao at all.
“Hey dude, say something!” Naihe Bridge roared in anger.
Still, no reaction from Li Yao. However, the numbers representing his monster kills continued to surge.
“Damn you, I’ve had enough. Stop killing monsters now, or I swear, the Other Shore Flower will make your life miserable in the Dark Camp.” Naihe Bridge couldn’t hold back any longer and started threatening Li Yao.
“Are you deaf or something? Stop it, and we’ll let bygones be bygones. You better think this through.” Naihe Bridge was close to losing his mind.
“****!” Li Yao finally responded with two words.
“Fine, wait and see. I’ll kill you back down to level zero.” Naihe Bridge’s chest was heaving violently with rage, his neural pulses were highly active, even his avatar turned blurry. It was a sign of being forcefully logged off by the system.
“Maybe someone can do that, but that doesn’t include you, Other Shore Flower,” replied Li Yao, “Take a good look at yourself. Let me be clear, you aren’t anything special. I don’t respond to avoid descending to your level of intelligence. But since you keep incessantly nagging, I’ll put you in your place. If you were in front of me now, I’d shoot your sorry head clean off.”
“You, good, so very good…” Naihe Bridge panted heavily. Being insulted like this in front of his underlings was highly embarrassing.
Meanwhile, the members of Other Shore Flower continued slaying monsters with their heads down, keeping quiet. Those who knew Naihe Bridge’s temper didn’t dare to speak and make things worse.
“Of course, I’m good, but look at you. You’re not just dumb, you seem to want to act like Zhuge Liang (a wise man in ancient China). I think even Pig Brother is better than you.” Li Yao’s voice replayed, calm and steady, making the insult even more provocative.
A couple of female players could not help laughing. There was no doubt; he was doing this on purpose.
“Keep killing, kill as many as you can. Before the eliminated team is teleported out of here, kill him!” Naihe Bridge roared before he turned blurry and was abruptly logged off the system.
A while later, he logged back in and continued slaying monsters in silence. His team members dared not make a sound.
In the end, Baihua Guild was the second to arrive, followed by Naihe Bridge’s team. The other team from Other Shore Flower also arrived, their gazes fixed malevolently on Li Yao, who was sitting on a chair, enjoying a drink…
