Chapter 52: | 051 | Unemployed Dragoness

Obviously, he was confused as to why Laplace acted in such a way and wanted to know why she even wanted to be employed by him.

It was a confusing situation, to say the least. Especially when she was emanating expectations that he didn\'t want to accidentally disappoint.

After a short while of thinking and Laplace staring at him with the same twinkling eyes, Abraham finally spoke with utter calm and questioned the dragoness.

"Why do you want to be employed, Laplace?" It hasn\'t been that long yet since she arrived in the Port of Dawn and she already wanted a job.

Even he wasn\'t this desperate when he was job-hunting in his twenties.

Laplace smiled after hearing his words and stepped closer to the Fleet Admiral\'s desk. Her golden eyes blinked for a moment before she responded with a long and unexpected story arc.

"You see… When I left the port to explore your place. I was quite appalled and somewhat amazed by the architecture and the cleanliness of your tiny city."

"The streets are very clean and don\'t even stink which is practically the first for me. I don\'t even dare to go near cities because of their stench."

"At any rate, as I was exploring through your streets, I noticed some shops beside it. I was quite surprised to see what they were selling."

"I didn\'t know you were selling some useful products, Abraham."

Laplace gave a thumbs up to the Fleet Admiral with a bright smile that revealed her fangs. She then continued her long story arc.

"She sold something similar to our soaps but better and easier to use. There was also something called a shampoo and a conditioner. She said that it could make my hair better and silkier."

"Wait, how did you even understand what the shopkeeper was saying?" Abraham brought up a vital question as Laplace seemed to easily understand what others were trying to tell despite the language barrier.

"Well… It wasn\'t easy. She was an understanding shopkeeper and was patient with me. So, she explained everything through pure actions which I could understand."

Laplace wryly smiled but soon regained her joy as she continued her long story arc once again.

"Anyhow, I wanted to buy them and brought out some gold I had with me." She became downcast once again as if remembering a disappointing memory.

"Sadly, she doesn\'t accept gold and needs some strange paper. I don\'t even know why a piece of paper has enough value to purchase goods. It doesn\'t make sense."

Laplace explained with a disappointed and confused expression. She couldn\'t comprehend why papers had worth in the United Navy.

"She said I needed to get a job to get the strange paper. So I\'m here trying to be employed and become rich enough to buy conditioners and shampoos!" Laplace declared with unrivaled determination.

The long story arc of Laplace was intriguing. How she managed to do such a thing while arriving earlier than Abraham at the branch building was a question he thought about.

"But how did you know that I\'ll be in the branch building?" Abraham coolly inquired.

"Well, well…" Laplace smirked as she got nearer to the Fleet Admiral. Her golden irises appeared to glow in neon hue.

This made Abraham wonder what she did to get his information. Did she use mind control on someone? Force them with her magic? Use her innate dragon abilities to make them talk?

Abraham\'s thoughts were flooded with theories of what the dragoness could have done to the pure soul getting questioned.

"I asked for directions."

His expectations failed him. It wasn\'t as horrendous as he thought it was.

"I- I see…" Abraham controlled himself since he didn\'t wish his untangled emotions of disappointment to be obvious to perceive.

Luckily, his savior emerged in the form of someone knocking on his door. Both Abraham and Laplace turned their eyes towards it with raised eyebrows.

One was for interrupting her conversation with her dear friend. And the other was thankful for saving himself from the doom of disappointment.

"Come in," Abraham uttered and the door to his office opened. Entering from the outside was none other than his Executive Officer, Vice Admiral Charlotte.

Her silver-shaded blond hair swayed as she walked through the office and arrived in front of the Fleet Admiral\'s desk. She held a report folder gracefully in her arms and saluted to Abraham.

"Fleet Admiral, Vice Admiral Charlotte Reporting!" It was the same greeting as before.

Abraham nodded with a thankful expression and let the Vice Admiral continue with her business to him. Laplace observed the two in silence and decided to think about what she wanted to buy when she got her money instead.

"I\'m here to report about the status of war prisoners and refugees." It seems that her report was about the serious circumstances of the refugees and war prisoners.

"The refugees have been sent to a refugee camp where they\'ll be staying for the meantime while we stabilize our logistics and economy."

"They have very much complied with our orders and haven\'t brought us problems."

"We are currently in the process of teaching them how to use basic necessities for themselves and also some basic laws of the Port of Dawn."

Charlotte concluded the report of the refugees and it was now time for the war prisoners.

"On the other hand, war prisoners have been violent since their capture. Although there were some who complied with orders, most wouldn\'t without the necessary force to do so."

Abraham raised an eyebrow after hearing about the situation of the prisoners of war. It was natural for them to keep war prisoners, but it seems that their mercy has been trampled upon as weakness.

He closed his eyelids and thought about the situation.

"Hmm… You know that prisoners of war don\'t have rights, correct?" Laplace remarked while leaning on Abraham\'s desk.

Abraham raised an eyebrow, wondering what the dragoness meant about the war prisoners having no rights. Charlotte tilted her head in confusion about Laplace\'s words.

"In this world, countries can do anything to their war prisoners. Perhaps the reason why they seem like a problem might be because they are thinking that you are afraid of the ones backing them.

Laplace\'s remark stuck deep inside Charlotte\'s mind as the Vice Admiral couldn\'t understand a word escaping the white-haired lady\'s supple lips. Meanwhile, Abraham realized something else.

"Vice Admiral Charlotte," Abraham uttered and Charlotte immediately straightened her back and raised a salute.

"Our friend here wants to get employed in the United Navy. Unfortunately, she doesn\'t have the knowledge or training to get into the basic curriculum of the navy."

"So, why don\'t you educate her on our ways and train her for the United Navy or United Army\'s military training course."

Like the leader that he was. He tossed the problem dragon to his subordinate with a smile on his face.

Charlotte was clearly astounded and felt that a troublesome one had been thrown into her jurisdiction. However, she could only sigh as it was the Fleet Admiral who had given her orders.
