Chapter 138: Dinosaur Attack III - Battle of giants
Rona, perched in a tree with agile grace, responded after quickly running back to Ayra avoiding the two dinosaurs, "It seems we\'ve got a huge problem on our hands. Just hold on tight!"
The ground shook beneath their feet as the colossal dinosaurs collided in a fierce battle. The newcomer, adorned with dark patterns, swung its massive tail with astonishing precision, aiming to strike a blow against its adversary. The menacing dinosaur retaliated with thunderous roars, its teeth bared in a display of primal aggression.
"Ohhh~ looks like it caught the tail of the other dinosaur with its mouth," Ayra muttered, but she didn\'t know who she should cheer on, after all, both of them looked equally bad for them.
The first dinosaur who attacked the village caught the tail of the second dinosaur just like Ayra said, and tried to bite it off so the attack of its opponent would be useless, but things didn\'t go as expected for both of them as they fell on each other losing the balance because of how intense their battle was.
Still, that didn\'t stop them as the two of them started to bite each other like their lives depended on it and the second dinosaur managed to get a clean bite because the first dinosaur was already weakened by Garnt\'s attacks.
As the two giants clashed, the villagers gasped and whispered among themselves, their eyes wide with a mixture of fear and awe. The air crackled with tension, and the village felt like the epicentre of a primordial struggle.
Ayra, still processing the chaos, looked to Rona for answers. "Rona, do you know anything about these creatures? Why are they fighting?"
Rona, looking around for any clues, replied, "Not a clue! Maybe they\'re just settling an old score. But we need to ensure the safety of the village, but I can say one thing for sure. The second dinosaur that appeared is the one that attacked us when we were fighting with Moga and Amel."
She also wanted to say that Garo might have something to do with it, but she knew adding more pressure to the wound would only cause more harm. All they had to do was to keep proper control over these two gigantic creatures so things wouldn\'t turn worse for the village.
Meanwhile, Garo, in Maro\'s protective grip, gazed at the battle with determination, and his eyes were screaming manliness despite being a few months old. "I can\'t just stand by. I need to do something," he thought to himself.
Maro, sensing Garo\'s restlessness, growled softly. "Stay put, little one. This is not a place for you to intervene."
Garo, however, couldn\'t resist the call to action. "I can\'t let them harm our people!"
Maro\'s eyes narrowed, and she gave Garo a stern look. "You\'re under my protection, remember? We\'ll find a way to help without putting you in danger. My master is the only one who can give us orders to lead us. So we wait for him."
It was like they were having a real conversation with the way they were looking at each other and Maro showed how loyal she was to Garnt.
Maro being the intelligent wolf felt that Garo might have some connection to all these problems, but she knew doing her best to protect him would be her duty that Garnt wants from her.
*Awooooo
She suddenly started to howl like she was asking help from her beloved master, and without any delay Garnt came back to the battlefield limping, but behind him was another ballista which had wheels attached to it.
"I wasn\'t here for a few minutes, how did things turn out like this?" Garnt exclaimed, surveying the scene. His men hurriedly pushed another ballista into position, its wheels clattering against the uneven terrain.
Rona and Ayra, noticing Garnt\'s return, rushed to his side to offer support. "Garnt, you\'re stubborn. We told you to recover without worrying about the battle." Rona said concern etched on her face.
Garnt just shook his head hearing her words refusing to obey her. "If I hide and recover now, I would forever hate myself if something happened to any of you. So don\'t tell me that,"
Others couldn\'t help but sigh knowing his words were true, and they knew how he felt because they felt exactly the same.
Maro, the loyal and intelligent wolf, sensed the urgency and bit gently into Garo\'s neck, carrying him like a protective parent. They joined Garnt, and the Garnt\'s family watched the raging dinosaurs with a mix of determination and concern.
Garnt, taking in the situation, spoke with resolve. "This is our chance. While they\'re distracted, we strike."
Rona, puzzled, asked, "How are we going to do that?"
Garnt pointed to the newly arrived ballista. "We aim for the underside of the necks. That\'s where they\'re vulnerable. Earlier we couldn\'t see them because these dinosaurs had their full attention on us, but right now we can do it. Their scales are too strong for our wooden arrows."
As they strategized, another ballista, pushed by Unami and her team, joined the fray. She nodded in readiness, showing that she was prepared for the coordinated attack.
"I\'m glad we were able to build some extra weapons. Eva, you\'re a true genius for giving me this idea,"
[Don\'t mention it. I\'m also rather curious about these dinosaurs that has the ability to lead me to my target, so I would obviously help you.]
Garnt climbed onto one ballista, while Unami took control of the other. Both machines were aimed at different dinosaurs, who were still locked in battle. The creatures growled in pain, providing a brief window of opportunity.
"Rona, give us a signal," Garnt muttered.
Rona, watching the scene unfold, signalled with determination. "Do it!" She shouted showing her desire to finish this battle and upon her signal, both of the weapons released their bows.
Garnt and Unami released the arrows simultaneously. The projectiles sailed through the air, finding their mark with precision. Unlike before, the arrows struck deep into the non-scaly sides of the dinosaurs\' necks.
*Gaaaaaaaah
Both the dinosaurs roared in agony, momentarily stunned by the unexpected attack. The village defenders seized the moment, preparing for the next phase of the plan. Garnt, his eyes gleaming with a mix of satisfaction and determination, shouted, "Now\'s our chance! Focus on their weakened spots!"
"Prepare for another round!" Rona shouted again, and they quickly released another round of arrows, which found its way into the dinosaur\'s body, but unlike last time it was precise enough.
[They are too injured to put their attention on you. One who loses the attention will probably lose this battle, and both of them know that. That\'s why even though you hurt them, they can\'t come and attack us.]
"That\'s true but Eva, what is the name that you gave them earlier something starting with the letter T," While his helpers were loading the next arrow, Garnt questioned because he was curious. He could easily tell that Garo belonged to the dinosaur type that appeared during Moga and Amel\'s battle.
[Tyrannosaurus rex or widely known as T-Rex. The second dinosaur that appeared today belongs to this type. I\'m not sure about the new one, but I think it is a Spinosaurus. I\'m not sure because even I wasn\'t really learning about these things when I was working as a doctor. It\'s my most basic knowledge.]
As soon the new arrows were loaded onto the ballista, Garnt and the village defenders swiftly released another set of arrows, targeting the weakened spots on the dinosaurs.
However, just as the arrows were about to hit, the wounded Tyrannosaurus rex managed to rise, shaking off the pain, and bolted into the dense forest. The Spinosaurus, driven by its predatory instincts, gave chase, disappearing into the trees.
"They are escaping!" Rona shouted being happy and angry at the same time. She wanted to ask how dare they leave after all the damage they did, but she knew what they needed now was not a challenge.
As the two massive creatures vanished from sight, a collective sigh of relief swept through the village defenders. Garnt\'s eyes reflected a mixture of satisfaction for driving the dinosaurs away and determination to ensure the safety of the village. Rona, still holding her bow, turned to Garnt and said, "We did it. For now, at least."
The village, however, bore the scars of the unexpected attack. Houses were damaged, and the casualties were evident. The air was heavy with a somber mood as the defenders surveyed the aftermath of the battle. Garo, the loyal dinosaur companion, nuzzled against Garnt, providing a sense of comfort in the midst of destruction.
Amidst the relief, Garnt couldn\'t shake the realization that the threat wasn\'t over. The T-Rex\'s final growl echoed in their minds, a menacing promise of a return. "We need to fortify the village and be prepared for their next move," Garnt declared, his voice resonating with determination.
The villagers began the arduous task of tending to the wounded and repairing the damages. Garnt, Rona, and the others worked together, their expressions reflecting a mix of exhaustion and resilience. As they cleaned up the debris, Garnt couldn\'t help but glance at the distant forest, where the dinosaurs had disappeared.
"When are you two going to appear again, but I promise next time I will kill both of you." It was a promise that Garnt decided to keep no matter how hard it was because he knew the village needed revenge for all the deaths that happened that day.
