Chapter 210: Results
"The time is up for the third round of certification examination. Everyone, stop refining your serums!" Aaron announced loudly.
The security guards standing at the sides immediately stopped all of the apprentices. Not all of the apprentices' three hundred portions of the serum had been completed within the time limit.
Thus, the whole place was filled with wailing and crying. Tyrion, however, had already finished refining his portion of serum and had been quietly waiting for the end of the examination.
"Everyone, stay where you are. We will check your serums and success rates one at a time," Aaron said.
The examination room was divided into six rows, with more than 50 people in each row. The six examiners started checking the serums, one by one, starting from the front. Luckily, they were fast and made quick progress.
In the third round of the certification examination, in addition to the success rate, the quality of the serum was also very important. As such, the quality of the refined serum must reach at least the ordinary grade criteria. If the quality was inferior, it would be considered a failure.
"Bolt. Three bottles of Fermi serum, two bottles of inferior quality and one bottle of ordinary quality, with a success rate of 1%. Two bottles of Nigeh, both of ordinary quality and a success rate of 2%. Atomic Serum, none, success rate of 0%. Fail..." When Aaron announced Bolt's results, Bolt burst into tears and pleaded with Aaron to give him another chance.
Unfortunately, the certification examination was ruthless, allowing for no second chances. Even if the other two serums were up to the standard, as long as one did not meet the standard, it would still be considered a total failure.
The inspection continued. Out of more than 300, there were only a few apprentices that had all three serums actually pass the standard criteria.
Some people became very frustrated, while some were all too willing to concede defeat. Some wailed loudly, and there were even some who went crazy and had to be dragged away by security!
Many of the apprentices stayed to await the results, even after they had been examined, as they wanted to find out who had passed the certification examination. They particularly were interested in finding out whether Prince, Donnie, or Kayla would finish with the best results.
Even though Donnie had done a little better than Prince in the previous two rounds, this advantage did not really matter much in regards to refining the serum. Therefore, it was still unknown who would do better than the other. And, if they were honest, many of the apprentices also stuck around to see hopefully Tyrion running around naked!
Just then, it was Donnie's turn to be checked...
"Donnie. Five bottles of Fedin serum, four bottles of ordinary quality and one bottle of premium quality with a success rate of 5%. Three bottles of Marti serum of ordinary quality with a success rate of 3%. Two bottles of Atomic Serum of ordinary quality with a success rate of 2%," Aaron announced Donnie's result. "The success rate of all the serums are more than 1%.
Hence, 14.5 guild points is awarded. Congratulations to Donnie in becoming a certified F-grade Chemist!"
Aaron smiled and shook hands with Donnie. A wide smile spread across Donnie's face, as he had finally became an official Chemist!
This was followed by a loud round of applause. After all, the birth of every certified Chemist was something worthy of a celebration!
"Wow….14.5 points is the highest score so far!"
"So powerful!"
"Sure enough, Donnie didn't let us down! He is the rising star of the nobles!"
Even though Donnie was used to being flattered by others, this time he was more pleased than ever, hearing the adoring comments from the others. After today, he would be an official Chemist, and his future and status in life would change dramatically.
After he enjoyed the moment of joy, Donnie then looked at Tyrion and sneered. "Lickeden, get ready to run around naked!"
At this time, others were looking at Tyrion with a teasing look. More than 100 people were waiting to be inspected, among whom only Donnie had more than 10 accumulated points, while the others only managed to just barely meet the standard.
Even if Tyrion was lucky enough to pass the F-grade Chemist certification, his scores were unlikely to be higher than Donnie's. Many of the apprentices knew this as well, so began mocking Tyrion in anticipation of his losing the bet.
"Haha, it's going to be fun to watch Lickeden run around naked!"
"It's going to be on the headline news tomorrow!"
The inspection continued. With the exception of Donnie's outstanding performance, which caused a great stir, the others performed much worse than him.
Finally, it was Kayla's turn to be inspected by Aaron. If she had not been absent due to her sickness, she would already have passed the certification examination. Knowing this, the crowd was very curious to know how many points she could get.
"Kayla. Four bottles of Wyett serum of ordinary quality with a success rate of 4%. Eight bottles of Lunn serum, six bottles of ordinary quality and two bottles of premium quality with a success rate of 8%. Three bottles of Atomic Serum of ordinary quality with a success rate of 3%," Aaron announced.
"Congratulations to Kayla on becoming a certified F-grade Chemist, earning a reward of 23 Alchemy reputation points!"
Aaron smiled and shook Kayla's hand. Kayla remained calm and showed no fluctuations in her mood. She seemed to have anticipated that she would pass the certification.
"Thank you," Kayla responded softly.
There was another round of applause and jubilation from the crowd, as they were shocked by Kayla's 23 points score, which was much higher than Donnie's. However, even in the face of the crowd's astonishment, Kayla still remained calm.
The inspection went on. It was now Prince's turn. His results were just as spectacular.
"Prince. Seven bottles of Fedin serum, five bottles of ordinary quality and two bottles of premium quality with a success rate of 7%. Four bottles of Healing serum, three bottles of ordinary quality and one bottle of premium quality with a success rate of 4%. One bottle of Atomic Serum with a success rate of 1%.
Congratulations to Prince on becoming a certified F-grade Chemist, earning a reward of 18 Alchemy reputation points." Aaron smiled and shook Prince's hand in celebration.
Prince had a full of smile on his face and a smug look in his eyes. He also looked provocatively at Donnie. It was as if he was proclaiming his own victory.
Donnie's face suddenly grew gloomy. He had never expected that he would earn less Guild points than Prince. Applause broke out, but this time, they were accompanied by some rumblings among the crowd.
"Prince actually managed to surpass Donnie in the last round of examination! He is really a genius."
"Prince was always smarter. After finishing refining a bottle of Atomic Serum, he put more energy into refining the other serums and earned as many points as he could that way."
"Donnie miscalculated. If he did had not concentrated so much on the Atomic Serum, he might have gotten a higher score than Prince."
Prince's tactic for his refinery of the serum was mainly based on earning more points. So, he did not waste a lot of time on the Atomic Serum like the others, which resulted in his earning more points.
"Huh! Winning by pulling off little tricks cannot be considered a talent," Donnie said defiantly.
Not long after Prince's turn had ended, it was finally Tyrion's turn. Once again, the gazes of the crowd turned to Tyrion. They wondered if this young lad, who always got into trouble, would manage to refine any serum or not.
