Chapter 587: Identity Revealed, NINE the God (2)

“Qingqing performed exceptionally well, so the director granted her three days off,” Ye Zhenmian replied, his face clouded with worry. “What was your father thinking, allowing you to accompany Qingqing in playing games? Your gaming skills are, at best, a mere accessory to her prowess.”

Nian Yi’an was rendered speechless.

Where is his family status?

“Qingqing adores coke chicken wings and sweet and sour meatballs,” Ye

Zhenmian stated. “You should bring those to her.”

With an impassive expression, Nian Yi’an proceeded to the kitchen and served the two dishes to Lin Jihuan.

Observing Si Fuqing eating joyfully, he sighed.

Perhaps he should return to his studies.

Lin Jihuan, visibly irritated, remarked, “My dear Qingqing, these netizens have no memory. You clearly defeated her in ‘Survival 66 Days’ last time, yet they still dare to flaunt that.”

“You don’t see other stars who are better gamers boast about their gaming skills every day, creating an e-sports girl persona?”

“What?” Si Fuqing turned her head to look.

Meng Xue had posted a picture of her rank promotion to ‘Challenger’ , with an APM of 243 displayed in the bottom right corner—an impressive feat among ordinary players.

Meng Xue’s fans were revitalized.

[243, my Xuexue is awesome!]

[Xuexue is truly an e-sports player hindered by her acting career! Without any training, she’s at this speed; what if she actually trained, could she reach 400?] [Exactly, Xuexue could even compete with professional players. She’s received an official invitation to attend the anniversary offline event, unlike some people.]

Meng Xue’s fans had clearly positioned Si Fuqing as their primary rival, sparing no opportunity to disparage her.

Stretching lazily, Si Fuqing mused, “Why should I promote this? I’m just an actress in the entertainment industry, how ordinary.”

“Exactly,” Lin Jihuan clenched her fists, “I despise those who constantly marl themselves. They’ll collapse sooner or later. ”

With Xu Jianian, the top-tier celebrity, having fallen, online bets were already being placed on who would be the next star to decline.

Meng Xue was the leading candidate.

Lin Jihuan urged Nian Yi’an to cast his vote as well.

Yuejian swirled the red wine in her glass, her lips curling into a meaningful smile. “Little junior sister, you truly are ordinary.”

Being a worker in the intelligence circle and a fighter in the gaming world seemed indeed very ordinary.

After dinner, Si Fuqing and Nian Yi’an returned home.

She extended her hand. “Let me check your homework.”

Nian Yi’an resignedly presented his exams.

“Mmhm, good progress,” Si Fuqing reviewed, “You can move on to different questions now. The problems Jihuan gave you are also useful. Follow her lead. Let’s relax a bit; I’ll take you for a dungeon run.”

Hearing this, Nian Yia’n brightened up.

He rushed to the esports room, powered up two computers, and logged into the game.

Si Fuqing took a seat.

As soon as she logged in, a notification for a tournament popped up.

The OPL Great Xia Regional Selection.

Si Fuqing didn’t pore over the details but was drawn to the prize section.

Five million for the first place in the Great Xia region.

Seemed quite enticing?

Little Bai, eyeing the string of zeros, lit up.

Gold bricks! Its gold bricks!

“You’ve had enough,” Si Fuqing lifted Little Bai, “Count how much gold you’ve consumed. I haven’t seen any improvement in your strength.”

The law of conservation of energy, it seemed, did not apply to this particular mythical creature.

Little Bai looked sullen and slowly wrote a line.

“You say you’ll soon be able to speak? What’s the use?” Si Fuqing folded her arms, “Can you earn your keep by working?”

Deflated, Little Bai slumped.

“Sister Sang,” Si Fuqing called Sang Yanqing on the phone, inviting JI Xingzhi and Jiang Changfeng to the team. “I have something important to discuss with you.”

Sang Yanqing tensed, “Be careful with your words; my heart can’t take much.”

Whenever Si Fuqing started talking to her in this tone, Sang knew trouble was brewing.

“I might participate in an esports competition,” Si Fuqing pondered, “around the end of the year. You wouldn’t mind, would you?”

“An esports competition?” Sang Yanqing’s tone surged, “You play games?” As the words left her mouth, she instantly felt the gravity of her mistake.

Gaming and esports were worlds apart.

Esports competitions were the domain of professional players.

Sang Yanqing, though a casual player of “Oracle,” was well aware of the challenges involved in its competitive play.

“I’m NINE, believe it or not?” Si Fuqing said seriously.

“Whether I believe it or not, will that cure my heart?” Sang Yanqing retorted.

A few seconds later, she took a deep breath and turned to her assistant. “Help me schedule an appointment with a cardiopulmonary specialist.”

“Wait, wait, Sister Sang, I can handle it,” Si Fuqing interjected. “Let’s save some money. I’ll take care of you.”

Forget it, might as well kill her instead.

For the first time, she coldly hung up on Si Fuqing, who felt a tinge of regret. “Sister Qingqing,” Nian Yi’an said with his headset on, “I’m ready.”

“Alright, let’s go,” she responded, coming back to her senses. “Once we’re in the game, I’m your older brother.”

Nian Yi’an was puzzled.

As Si Fuqing was about to enter the dungeon, her friend list pinged.

[System]: Your friend Jiu has come online. “Hold on,” she narrowed her eyes, “I’ll invite one more person.”

Within seconds, another player joined the team.

Nian Yi’an, steadying his nerves, saw the name: Jiu.

His hand trembled. Could it be that his sister was actually involved with the legendary Jiu?

He recalled the fan fiction about these two titans he had read on forums.

[Team][Jiu]: I’ll bring someone in.

Soon after, another joined.

[Team] [XingChen]: Greetings, the gods.

Si Fuqing raised an eyebrow, “Alright, let your junior see how I crush you.”

Shen Xingjun, upon hearing this, instinctively looked at Yu Xiheng, who typed a few words in response.

[Team] [Jiu]: Just you?

Shen Xingjun found it amusing. “You’re quite the character, getting competitive with others.”

Yu Xiheng, holding his tea, said indifferently, “If you’ve got nothing better to do, you could always request to go to the frontier.”

“No, no,” Shen Xingjun choked, ‘Why would I go there? My martial skills are barely passable; I’d be courting death. Please don’t tell my grandfather; it would kill me.”

He knew all too well what the frontier was—a desolate and often war-torn border region guarded by the Thousand Army Alliance, once protected by the JIANG family.

Knowing his limitations, Shen Xingjun decided to stay out of trouble.

He was curious to see who was stronger: Yu Xiheng or the rough- and-tumble NINE.

Si Fuqing led the team into the dungeon just as someone knocked on the door. It was Yuejian. “Qingqing,” she called.

She removed her headset and stood up. “I’m coming.”

She had left the team voice chat on, inadvertently broadcasting her real voice.

Shen Xingjun was confused. “Why is there suddenly a girl’s voice, and who’s keeping a girl? Her voice is quite pleasant.”

It sounded vaguely familiar.

The team exploded in reaction.

[Team][SuiSuiNianNian]: ?

[Team] [JI]: Not me! I wouldn’t dare!

[Team] [Lightning]: .

Shen Xingjun then realized, “That was NINE the God’s mic that lit up, right?”

Player icons have a small microphone symbol that lights up when they speak.

A few minutes later, Si Fuqing put her headset back on. “Let’s start.” The team fell silent, everyone, including Nian Yi’an, frozen in place.

Si Fuqing squinted her fox-like eyes.

Was it her headset or microphone that was malfunctioning?

She reconnected to the voice chat and asked, “Can you hear me?”

Still, no response.

Then, a private message popped up.

[Private][Lightning]: …You forgot to use the voice changer..
