Chapter 59
Chapter 59
‘Stop spacing out! Let her do the attacking. Thou shouldst focus on halting Safkrym’s movement and be quick about it!’
... gotcha!
This is the best option I have right now.
I use Poison Enchantment on the bolt and load it into my crossbow.
I don’t think Celes would laugh if I hit her, so I gotta be extra careful with my aiming.
Before I fire, though, I’ll let her know.
“Celes! Make sure you don’t get hit by this bolt. I used that thing from earlier!”
“What?!”
Celes, who was just up in Safkrym’s face, now has a confident smirk on her face as she leaps away from the enemy.
Damn, she’s quick on her feet!
‘Well, I cannot suggest being an adventurer if one cannot quickly escape from harm...’
You can almost hear Veno roll his eyes. I almost feel bad for Celes after seeing her run away at full speed.
‘You can’t get away!’
Whoo, I better hit the bastard.
“Let me support you! Binding Whip!”
Arleaf summons vines to ensnare Safkrym in order to back me up.
Oh? Maybe because Arleaf’s more proficient in magic now, but they look more like roots than vines now.
I guess the more Mana you have, the stronger your magic gets too.
‘Don’t think that can stop me!’
Safkrym breaks free of the roots like child’s play.
But, hey, that brief moment is plenty enough time for me.
“Suck on this!”
I focus and activate Power Shot as I pull the trigger on the crossbow.
The sizzling bolt whizzes through the air and sticks into Safkrym.
‘Wh-What is this?! Gwaaaaaaah?! Poison?! It’s nearly melting my skin off! Gaaaaaah!’
Just as Safkrym was about to give chase, I strike it with Arleaf’s poison.
“... it’s good that it’s working so well, but am I supposed to be happy about it?”
Arleaf has a strained expression on her face. It’s almost as if she can’t decide on whether to be happy to be useful or to be embarrassed that her cooking is causing it.
“Muuuu!”
Meanwhile, Muu takes on the minions head-on.
Muu looks like it’s holding up. Go kick some ass for me, boy.
‘Gah... don’t go thinking you had me with that!’
Whoa! I can’t believe he’s still able to fight after getting hit with Arleaf’s Poison Cooking!
Even Elbatoxin got wrecked by it, but Safkrym’s still standing?
Then, from a distance away, Celes begins to charge up her power for something.
What, is she unleashing her ultimate?
“Well done! It is more than weak enough now! Splendid how your power is way beyond than your level suggests! Leave the rest to me now!”
Celes quickly closes the distance.
“You’re done for!”
Putting all her strength into that swing, Celes cuts Safkrym’s arm clean off and sends it flying.
‘Wha—?! Gyaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!’
Safkrym cries out in pain.
To figuratively kick it while it’s down, Celes rushes in close again and slices Safkrym down again.
‘God damn! To lose to the Defiant is one thing, but to be defeated by a human?!’
Still writhing in pain from losing an arm, Safkrym begins to swing its hammer with the remaining arm. What’s it gonna do?!
The hammer turns red hot.
‘Take this! Meggido Qu—’
However, as if it means nothing to her, Celes follows up with another attack.
“Taste my blade! Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!”
“—ake... wha—?! I-Impossible! Oof!”
She slices Safkrym through its arm and neck in one clean arc.
‘Incredible... for a human to be able to cut through Safkrym. Truly, the blacksmith told no lies—I can believe that she can take on a wyvern alone.’
As Veno announces his thoughts out loud, Safkrym’s gigantic corpse crashes to the ground.
“All right! An easy victory. Let us hurry!”
While Celes holds her sword at the corpse, Muu cleaned up the rest of the minions it was holding at bay.
We followed suit and rejoined them... but isn’t Celes, like, super overpowered?
‘It shows how strong she is. Safkrym is but small fry to me, much like how Elbatoxin was too.’
Hmm... I’m sure they’re nothing to you, but we wouldn’t stand a chance against our pursuers if they’re as strong as Celes.
At least I give it my all today. With the buff from Arleaf’s toxins, I managed to land a critical supporting shot.
‘There is something about the way she wields that sword... it looks oddly... familiar?’
I ignore whatever Veno is muttering and bask in our victory instead.
Jeez, that Celes is strong.
She’s even stronger than Arleaf, whose level is way higher than ours.
Yeah, it was definitely the right choice to come slaying monsters with her.
“Now then... it was easy defeating this big thing, but how should we bring it home? It would be easier to cut it into pieces, but...”
Celes mutters while staring at Safkrym’s corpse.
“Oh, let me use my storage magic on it.”
“Hmm? You will? It is not exactly simple to store away such a humongous body though.”
“My mentor has taught me some... secret trick for storing stuff like this. Let me try my hand on it.”
‘What a glib tongue thou hast. Perhaps an excuse would be necessary for something as big as this. We are fortunate to have been able to defeat something comprised of nothing but useful materials.’
Veno continues as he stores away the carcass.
‘Oh, and do not forget that it is not a simple thing to use storage magic on something with magic resistance. Safkrym has that property. It would be strange for normal humans to be able to accomplish this feat.’
I get it, I get it. You mentioned resistance last time with Arleaf’s cooking too.
“Still... as glad as I am to be victorious, my blade has chipped...”
She looks bothered as she inspects her sword.
Yeah, there’s a chunk missing on the thing. I feel bad since it looks like it’s a good sword too.
“Sorry for bringing you so many troubles.”
“Worry not. It was my decision to fight this battle. And, with all of your help, we were able to weaken it and to so quickly defeat it, Normally, I would be stuck fighting for days.”
“... you can fight for that long?”
“I kid you not. We humans are weaker than monsters. Therefore, we must overcome the difference with wisdom, bravery, and sweat.”
‘Aye... quite the bother.’
How can Veno say that as the strongest thing here?
“And Miss Arleaf too, your powers are boundless. I did not think you could use it offensively at that brute.”
“Yeah, I enchanted my bolt with it. It’s our secret weapon.”
“... ah, hmm, yes...”
Arleaf nods in agreement with a pained look on her face.
Well, it was supposed to be food, so I can’t imagine she’d be very happy to be useful in such an opposite manner.
“Muu...”
“Hmph... if only I can use it regularly too. As much as I would like to ask you for it, any small mistake would be incredibly dangerous... it is something that only Cohgray can handle.”
I wonder.
I’m imagining Arleaf giving her cooking to Celes then Celes chucks it at her enemies.
‘Let me create a simulation for thee.’
Celes throws a container full of Arleaf’s cooking at the enemy. The food escapes from the box and overruns the monster.
Immediately after, though, I see Celes and her team get mobbed too.
They try to fight the food, but as they’re resistant to magic, the good guys quickly get overrun as well.
The food manages to find the smallest gaps to jump into her allies’ mouths and knocks them out.
Celes and company may have been victorious, but at what cost?
‘And that was against a monster that can be defeated by humans. Anything my level would render the food to cinder!’
