Chapter 329: Let’s Go for a Picnic!

Chapter 329: Let’s Go for a Picnic!

Novelfree.ml

It was the day after the Count came to the Adventurer’s Guild.

After consuming bowls of Miso-grilled Orc with an impressive appetite for breakfast, Fer said something expected, yet still earth-shattering.

“Alright, let’s go to a dungeon.” Well, I had been half-hoping…

““Ohh, a dungeon!””

““Dungeon, dungeon~””

As I had expected, there’s no help from that side either. Nevertheless, I am not out of cards just yet.

“No, no, not yet. I still haven’t gotten my Wyvern cloak from Lambert’s. That’s one of the main reasons why I came to Carelina.”

“Mu, what a bore.”

““What? So we’re not going?””

““Dungeon…””

Looks like everyone here loves the thrill of dungeon diving. Everyone aside from me. Personally, I’m happy to sit back and relax at home surrounded by luxury and convenience.

However, my familiars would rebel at this.

I should take them out hunting or something…

“Good morning!”

“Good morning, Brother Mukouda!”

It was the commoner ladies, Aiya, Teresa, Celia and Lotte-chan coming in to work.

“Oh, good morning, everyone.”

Hm? Everyone seems to be holding something?

Lotte-chan came running over with the thing in her arms, “Brother Mukouda, mom baked them this morning!”

“Oh, Teresa’s bread. Thank you!”

I received the bread from Lotte-chan.

“Wow, it’s still warm.”

Teresa smiled, “I brought Fer-sama’s share and everyone else’s too.”

Ah, so that explains why everyone has armfuls of bread.

“I tried baking two types of bread. One with my own base and the other with the base I received from Mukouda-san.”

“I look forward to trying them!”

The ladies moved the rest of the bread to the kitchen before heading to the basement where the cleaning items were stored.

“We shall begin our work now,” they chimed cheerfully.

“Alright, have a good day.” It’s nice to have happy employees.

I set the two different bread I got from Lotte-chan on the table and examined them. Both were round bread about 20 cm in diameter across made with wheat from this world. I sliced a couple of pieces off each and tasted them without any condiments first.

“Hmm, this one must be Teresa’s natural yeast bread, it looks a little stodgy and hard. Well, that’s not necessarily a bad thing. To better experience the flavour of wheat, crusty and chewy bread is best. The outside is crispy and fragrant.”

Next, I tried the bread made with dry yeast .

“This one has a much softer texture than Teresa’s natural yeast bread. I should toast it lightly to make it more fragrant.”

Regardless, both types should go well with savoury food. I think I have some cheese and ham in my [Item Box].

I made savoury sandwiches with the bread and took a bite.

“Ooh~ as expected, both are good with savoury fillings~”

In fact, these nice and substantial bread should be delicious as gutsy meat sandwiches.

Wait, when it comes to sandwiches…

Alright, let’s go out for a picnic today!

Since Fer & Co. were so restless, I should take them out hunting. Moreover, the weather’s pretty nice today, just perfect for a picnic.

Yes, let’s do that.

“I’ll be right here getting lunch ready so be sure not to come back too late, alright?”

“Just make a lot.”

““Lots!””

“Yes, yes, I know.”

We’re in the middle of the wide grassland west of the city. It was the same grassland where I had subjugated the Bloody Horned Bull herd before.

As one of the places for beginner Adventurers to test their skills, I could see a few of them wandering around the edges doing beginner’s missions like collecting grasses and hunting small game.

““Master, I’m going off to play~~””

Sui opted not to go hunting, deciding instead to run around (undulate around?) the meadow grounds to play.

“Alright, make sure not to go too far. Be careful of Adventurers too. Sui is much stronger so don’t attack them.”

Anyone attacked by Sui will receive instant death.

““Ye~es~”” said Sui before hopping off into the grass.

Right, let’s get to work.

First, I got my trusty Magic Stove out from my [Item Box].

The plan was to make some super-luxurious Dragon Steak Sandwiches along with Boiled Pork Sandwich .

I plan to use General Orc meat today instead of regular Orc for a more luxurious mouthfeel.

I’m sure that Fer & Co. would be super excited about eating dragon. So much so that I’m a little worried that Teresa’s bread won’t be enough.

Anyway, I have pretty much all the ingredients I needed to make sandwiches. Whatever I’m missing could be quickly bought from [Net Super].

Right, first let’s make the time consuming Boiled Pork.

For a truly proper Boiled Pork, I should marinate it in salt overnight but for now, let’s boil the General Orc meat in just enough water to cover the Porc (lol) along with chopped green onions, ginger slices, sake and salt.

When the water started bubbling, remove the scum and lower the fire to a simmer for the next 30 to 40 minutes.

Meanwhile, let’s make Dragon Steaks for the Dragon Steak Sandwiches.

It’s best to go simple with amazing ingredients like dragon meat.

Therefore, I grilled Earth Dragon Meat with nothing but salt and pepper as well as a dash of the Black Pepper & Roasted Garlic Steak Sauce in keeping with the theme. After letting the meat rest, I sliced the thick steak up and loaded the meat into the lighter dry yeast bread.

No lettuce or tomatoes, just straight up bread and meat with just a dab of butter. “A very manly and hearty sandwich, hohoho… I guess I should try it first.” I took a bite and, “Woah, that’s delicious.”

Munch, munch, munch.

“Eh, wait, it’s gone!”

The first Dragon Steak Sandwich of the day ended up in my stomach.

“Ahaha, it was just too delicious.”

Once I recovered from the spell of deliciousness cast by dragon meat, I focused my mind on making more. I ran out of bread before the meat was gone. Never mind, let’s just buy more whole wheat bread from [Net Super] and keep going.

“Phew, I wonder if this many Steak Sandwich is enough? Anyway, let’s make the Boiled Pork Sandwiches next.”

The simmered pork had been taken out and set to rest on the side while I cleaned and sliced the lettuce into appropriate size. For the spread, I chose to mix a grain mustard-based sauce made from grain mustard, soy sauce, honey, vinegar and salt for balance.

Balsamic vinegar would probably give the sauce a richer flavour but I can’t be bothered now.

Once the sauce was ready, I first sliced up Teresa’s natural yeast bread, spread butter on them and lightly toast the bread in the oven. The cooled pork was then sliced and set aside.

When the bread was done toasting, it was time to assemble.

First, the lightly toasted bread, buttered side on top. A small handful of lettuce, followed by a few thick slices of pork and a dab of sauce and then cover that up with another piece of toasted bread.

And it’s done!

“Alright, let’s give it a try,”

The lettuce and thick pork slices really gave volume to the sandwich. I opened my mouth wide and took a great bite.

“Hmm, hmm, the spicy, savoury and sour taste of the grain mustard goes really well with the pork, and this fragrant chewy bread-”

““Aruji~””

“Hmm, Sui?”

““Behind you~~!””

Wow, Sui sounds like she’s having fun. I turned around and saw three young Adventurers chasing a Slime across the grassland.

“Haah?”

““Yaaay~!”” Sui leapt out from the grass and dove into my arms with a ‘pyon’.

“Haah, haah, haah… hey, old man. Hand over that slime.”

Three young men stood panting before me. I supposed these are beginner Adventurers?

“That’s right, that’s our prey!”

“Don’t steal!”

Eeeh? Just what is going on?

Sui, what did you do?
