Chapter 480 - Strange Ancient City Part 2
Chapter 480 - Strange Ancient City Part 2
"Mmm… it\'s an older language that has not been used for a few million years. When I was created, I was instilled with every language ever made. If I am not wrong, this is from an ancient race that once came to this realm, the Noxtor. Unfortunately, I do not know any more than this." Aruya walked over to Kana and tapped her forehead. "This should help you read the materials you find. I will be going back to sleep now."
Before Kana could say thank you, Aruya was already gone. "She sleeps more than the dead…"
"I heard that!" Aruya\'s voice came from inside Kana.
"I said it loud enough for you to hear!" Kana said teasingly but got no response back. Pouting slightly, Kana looked at Ganjo, who was just doing his own thing, not really paying attention, and pouted some more.
But now Kana had a way to read anything she found, so it was a huge help. Now being able to read things, Kana went back over the rooms she had been in before on the first floor but was unable to find any solid information. Everything she read was nothing important, at least nothing that would tell her what she needed to know. It seemed the only hint so far was what was found in that one meeting room.
Kana made her way up to the second floor, which was a wide open office area. Rows upon rows of cubicles spread out across the floor. Just like the first floor, it seemed everyone disappeared. It did not look like any kind of panic took place here. But there were all kinds of snacks and papers left out as if people were working all the way up until they disappeared. "Ganjo, you have been around a long time, right? Have you heard of any kind of civilization here?"
"Sorry, Master, if what Aruya said is correct and the language here is millions of years old, I had yet to be born." Ganjo answered honestly. He looked around, unable to make sense of any of what he was seeing either.
"It\'s okay. I just thought I would ask. Let\'s keep looking for anything that might tell us what went wrong here." Kana said with a smile. She walked over to one of the desks and picked up some files. "Magnite ray? A weapon of some kind?"
Kana didn\'t understand what the rest of the paper said since it was all too complicated, but she guessed that this place must have created weapons of some kind. At least, this is what she assumed. She continued to look around until she finally stopped by a desk that looked to have an old newspaper clipping. But what she saw seemed very familiar to her. "This is… I have seen this before in the place where I found Aoi. But this world was not destroyed…"
Pondering for a moment, Kana decided to make a trip back to the academy someday to ask about this. If she remembered correctly, they had run into something like this a few times. But compared to the world that was completely destroyed, this place looks more like a place where all of its inhabitants had disappeared.
"I will keep searching. Maybe more information can be found in another building." Kana searched the rest of the building she was in but found nothing more of interest, so she decided to move onto the next building.
When she entered the next building, she was surprised to see what looked to be a shopping mall of some kind. This greatly interested her because it gave her a chance to look at the culture of the people who once lived here. "Everything is so square…" Most of the items that were not something that could not be made into a cube shape was a cube shape. She had noticed this as well in the office building, the cups, bowls, and plates were all cube shaped. At first, she just thought it was a strange popular shape at the time, but now, seeing almost everything in a cube shape, she wondered if it had some kind of religious value to it. Maybe they worshiped some kind of cube god.
Kana went from store to store, checking things out. She even found a few dresses that she liked, but sadly her wings would not allow her to wear them without major alterations, so she could only leave them be. But for the most part, the clothing seemed to be normal in this aspect. It seemed these kinds of clothing were kind of a universal tradition amongst any bipedal race.
After checking out the mall for a while, Kana finally moved to the next building. To her surprise, this place seemed to be an apartment complex. "So they lived in cube shaped homes too." Kana pursed her lips. The apartment seemed to be a perfect cube shape. When she entered, some of her assumptions seemed to be true as she found a shrine of some kind, at least, she thought it looked like a shrine with a metal cube in the middle of a small cabinet with a few square candles sitting around it.
She picked up the cube and looked at it but found nothing strange about it, so she put it back. When she walked into the living room, she froze when she saw a picture of a young couple holding a small baby. They looked human but with grey skin and blue hair. But other than that, they had mainly human features. "An ancient human race different from the current?" Kana pondered as she looked at the picture.
After staring at the picture for a bit, Kana walked around the apartment and found a few more newspapers talking about a new invention. It was said to revolutionize the world. It seemed to be something that could teleport the planet to other solar systems and even galaxies. Allowing them to gain access to new frontiers. "Seems a bit unrealistic. If you were to jump to a hostile galaxy, you would end up dooming your planet. Maybe that is what really happened… Maybe this invention had something to do with the strangeness of this place, but that does not explain the other news paper…"
Kana scratched her head and wondered if the device they created might have made everyone disappear.
