Chapter 194: The Ruler (Part One)

Chapter 194: The Ruler (Part One)

Helpless and anxious, Xie Zhuojun begged. “Please, doctor, you know very well how sick I am. And you also said that I am not in an optimistic situation and need to have the operation as soon as possible. Can you just ask your Head to return to do the operation for me? It is a matter of life, and isn’t it his duty to rescue the patients? I can pay as much as money you want, please save me! I can’t tolerate my headaches any more.”

“Sigh, it is not a matter of money! We have standard prices for operation and they are registered in the State Administration of Commodity Price. We can’t charge more than the registered price. Our Head wouldn’t return tomorrow and even if he does, it wouldn’t be your turn. His schedule is full until the next year and there are way too many patients asking for him. Well, Head Mu is indeed a great doctor, isn’t he! Anyways, I suggest you try other hospitals, there are many hospitals in A City, aren’t there?”

Although the doctor was smiling, he disliked Xie Zhuojun internally.

He had felt some compassion towards this man who seemed to have offended the Head which is why the Head had refused to operate upon him. But what he said, made him look less pitiful.

He was a doctor himself and hated to hear others talking about “saving people” was their duty as if they were all sinners if they didn’t.

Doctors are human beings too and they could also get tired and their abilities were limited as well. They were definitely going to save people when they could. But a patient like Xie Zhuojun was a difficult case and his operation would be risky and might even lead to death! If that happened, the family would definitely hold a banner and claim that the doctors had killed him. A similar case had happened earlier and it was quite reasonable that the Head turned him down.

Xie Zhuojun stayed at the hospital for a long time but the doctor still rejected him. Helpless, he had to go to five or six different hospitals of different scales, including the City Hospital and Affiliated Hospital of the University of X, People’s Hospital etc.

But the only answer he received was –”your situation is very serious but we wouldn’t be able to do the operation.”

And when they were asked as to who could do the operation, the answer he received was the same – “Family Mu’s Surgeon, Mu Qing!”

Desperate, Xie Zhuojun returned home and told his parents about the situation.

Couple Xie had never expected that their son could be so badly sick and they were reminded of the time when he was in coma, years ago. The couple was very worried that their son would go back to how he had been before – lying in the bed and reacting to nothing.

They used all the contacts they could and threw as much money as they could and found that Mu Qing, the Head of Family Mu’s Hospital, and the only person who could save their son was right here, at the Hospital, and that he had turned their son down on purpose.

How could that be possible?

Family Xie had never been an enemy of Family Mu. Then why would Mu Qing turn him down and even come up with a groundless excuse of travelling.

Xie Dongfeng, who had been doing business for so long, sensed that their family had been falling into a strange situation lately – no one wanted to help them because someone else was pulling them down.

This had never happened before. It had been badgering him for the past six months. Nothing was going smoothly no matter what he did.

Many issues popped up in the daily operation of the business, and some collaborators would drop their cooperation for unknown reason. Sometimes, strict tax inspection and commerce inspection would come to their company all of a sudden and some key top managers and staff had resigned without any valid reason.

Their old friends and partners whom they were in an excellent collaboration relationship with, left them one after another. They even refused to answer their phone calls.

They had problems wherever they went – they couldn’t check into hotels or eat at restaurants, even the hospitals didn’t want to take them in.

Who on earth had Family Xie offended?

Who could be so powerful that he was able to control all the areas in A City just to push Family Xie to a dead end.

Even if that man was able to control those aspects, he would still need tremendous labor and force. It wouldn’t be a good deal for him at all.

Sitting in the spacious living room, the family stayed silent. It felt suffocating when that invisible, hidden hand was gripping their hearts, choking them to death.

It felt horrible because they had no idea who he was, where he was, what he wanted and why he did what he had done.

All of them thought of one word to describe that man – A Ruler!

A long while later, Xie Dongfeng said hoarsely, “We... have offended a powerful man who shouldn’t have been offended...”

Xie Zhuojun looked up. He said tiredly and his eyes were dim. “But, how could we have offended someone like that? We don’t know anyone like that!”

The father and son were frowning and pondering when Wang Lu said hesitantly, “Can it be... Shangguan Ning? I feel that ever since Zhuojun broke off the engagement with her, we have always had problems, especially since the New Year. She has made fuss twice and each time she has been so intimidating and fierce. The boyfriend of hers doesn’t seem like an ordinary man!”

The father-son duo’s hearts skipped a beat.

The man beside Shangguan Ning was more than ordinary. He was so proud and ruthless, and he didn’t even look at Shangguan Zheng, who had been a Deputy Mayor.

“Zhuojun, do you know the man whom Shangguan Ning is dating?” Xie Dongfeng seemed to sense that he was onto something, so he asked his son instantly.

Xie Zhuojun shook his head and he said as he frowned. “I don’t. But he is not her boyfriend. He is her husband. Shangguan Ning is married, she got married long time ago!”

“What?”

Both Xie Dongfeng and Wang Lu were very surprised. They had thought that Shangguan Ning had ruined his engagement party and wedding only because she loved their son so deeply that she was full of jealousy.

But that had not been the reason.

“I checked. She got married in December last year, but her husband’s information is well encrypted. I heard my friends from the Public Security Bureau that any information about her marriage has been set as the most confidential information. No one apart from the Director of Public Security Bureau is allowed to read it. It is not open to anybody else. I will ask someone to check it again to see if we can find some clues.”

Having heard what his son just said, Xie Dongfeng felt himself freezing from top to bottom as if he had fallen into an icehouse!

“No need, I know who that is!”
