Chapter 68 - 68: Who Said I Was Going Back to My Room?
Shen Wan’s clever ruse allowed her to elude the vigilant gaze of the serious young boy. Though she appeared composed on the outside, her heart raced like thunder. Once she turned the corner, she broke into a sprint.
During the escape, she felt uncomfortable. She was fortunate to be wearing a dress; if she had been in trousers, it would have been even more challenging.
Ascending from the underground, she encountered a series of stairs, and her already weakened body, having been ambushed the previous night, was drained of energy. Her mental state was on the verge of collapse.
By the time she reached the bar area, she was gasping for breath.
Leaning against the wall, she slowly regulated her breathing. Once fully composed, she pushed open the security door and traversed the long corridor.
The bar was a stark contrast to its nighttime revelry. The dance floor was deserted, the lights were dimmed, and an air of desolation hung in the atmosphere. She kept her head down as she walked through the area, not spotting the black-clad figures who had pursued her the night before.
They must have given up.
Ding!
As the elevator doors slid open, Shen Wan entered, and her slender figure was mirrored in the gleaming metallic doors. She stood there silently, her emotions suddenly flaring like a rush of wasabi from her throat to her nose, causing her entire face to contort. In the end, she clenched her teeth and, amid a faint taste of blood in her mouth, forced herself to regain her composure for the time being.
Soon, her emotions settled, and she began to analyze the current situation.
What did Song Lin want to achieve? Was drugging her his own idea, or did someone instigate him? And what role did Shen Qian play in this matter? She couldn’t believe he would get so thoroughly drunk that he couldn’t even hear her plea for help.
As for the man soaking in the hot spring…
To appear in such a place, claim an extravagant “underground palace”, and have a loyal mushroom-haired bodyguard stationed outside meant he held a high status and was not to be trifled with.
If there had been any other option, Shen Wan wouldn’t have casually provoked him. Unfortunately, she had been pushed to a corner. She preferred choosing someone she found appealing over being at the mercy of Song Lin’s men.
Huh… She hadn’t expected to stumble upon him by accident. His face still lingered in her mind, a pleasing sight.
At first, she had been assertive, but he had retaliated, evening the score.
One remained in Beijing, and the other was in Ning City. They were unlikely to meet again. As the elevator reached the designated floor and the bell chimed, Shen Wan fully regained her composure. She adjusted her disheveled long hair, appearing calm and composed as she stepped out.
Back in her room, she shed her partially damp dress, changing into the white dress she had worn when she arrived. Shen Wan didn’t dare to look in the mirror.
She had come with only a small bag and no other belongings. There was no need to pack when leaving. The clothes she had bought with He Huai during their outing were not worth keeping. She left with empty hands, making it look as if she were casually going for a stroll.
In the lobby, the opulent surroundings gleamed with such extravagance that it could almost blind onlookers.
Shen Wan exited with a stoic expression, while He Huai, Song Lin, and their group ventured deeper into the area. As they collided head-on, Shen Qian was also among them.
“Wan Wan?! Why did you run off by yourself last night? You said you were going to the restroom, and we waited for you at the private room for half an hour. Then you sneaked back to your room alone. What’s with that?” He Huai hurried over, grabbing her hand. While he started with a complaint, he always wore a smile on his face.
“Is that so?” The young woman chuckled lightly, and a hint of coyness curved her lips, tinged with a touch of coldness.. “Who said I went back to my room?”
