Chapter 48 - 48: Could Shen Qian Help Shen Wan, Was That Even Possible?
“He’s on a business trip in Beihai,” Shen Yan responded swiftly.
Shen Ru nodded. “I remember that Brother had a project to kick off in Beihai. By the way,” she suddenly turned to Shen Wan. “What is our little sister doing these days?”
Shen Wan’s eyelashes fluttered – here it comes!
Shen Yan’s crisp laughter sounded like tinkling bells. “Sister, are you asking what job she’s doing? Well, you might be disappointed because our little sister is now a first lady, living a leisurely life, with everything at her fingertips!” Shen Ru furrowed her delicate eyebrows. “No job?”
“That’s right!”
Shen Chunjiang cleared his throat, feeling somewhat awkward, and hinted to Shen Yan to ease up.
Yang Lan sneered, a hint of disdain in her eyes.
Just as everyone expected Shen Wan to remain silent, she surprised them by lifting her head and offering a shy smile to Shen Ru. “My educational background is not very high, which is why 1 haven’t been able to secure a job at the moment.”
Shen Ru caught a glimpse of the helplessness in her eyes but didn’t detect any self-deprecation or indignation. She couldn’t help but slightly adjust her expression.
“Dad, our family doesn’t support idleness, so why don’t we arrange a job for Wan Wan?” Though it sounded like seeking advice, there was an underlying air of authority.
Shen Chunjiang furrowed his brows and pondered for a moment. “Do you have any suggestions?”
“In the end, she’s our family’s child. While discipline is essential, we shouldn’t be too harsh on her. How about making her my assistant?”
Shen Wan lowered her gaze, but her hand holding the chopsticks tightened for a moment.
“What do you think, Wan Wan?” Shen Chunjiang asked her.
She smiled and raised her face. “I would be grateful, Older Sister, for giving me this opportunity!”
“However, let’s make it clear upfront. If you can’t handle your responsibilities, you will still face criticism.”
“Naturally.”
Shen Ru smirked, a glint of hidden satisfaction in her eyes.
Shen Wan responded with a smile and lowered her head to eat.
That night, right after Shen Ru had finished showering, Shen Yan came to her room eagerly.
“Do you have something to discuss?”
“Sister, why are you defending that little vixen?”
Shen Ru’s eyebrows tightened. “Watch your manners when talking.”
“I’m talking about Shen Wan’s affairs. Don’t change the subject!”
Shen Ru’s face darkened. “You can disregard your own status and speak crudely, but don’t recite your accusations in front of me!”
“Sister…” Shen Yan was momentarily stunned, a look of grievance in her eyes.
Shen Ru couldn’t help but sigh softly, her tone softened slightly. “I used to think you were still young, and being lively was normal. But, Yan Yan, you’re twenty now. If you don’t rein in your temper, you’ll get into big trouble sooner or later.”
“Sister, please don’t be angry. 1 know 1 was wrong, and 1’11 be more careful next time!” She said it, but she didn’t really believe she had any fault.
Shen Ru’s eyes briefly reflected disappointment, but she quickly regained her composure. “Speak properly. What do you want?”
“Why did you arrange for Shen Wan to join the company? She’s not in good standing. Do you really consider her a sister?”
“You even know she’s not in good standing.”
“So, why did you…”
Shen Ru turned to look out of the window, the night had grown deeper, shrouding everything in a melancholic darkness.
“I recall advising you previously that when confronting enemies, the least effective strategies involve arguing and impulsive actions. Regrettably, it appears you excel in both these areas.”
Shen Yan pursed her lips, “I’m sorry…”
“Apologizing to me won’t change anything.”
“Sister.” Shen Yan leaned closer, blinked her eyes, and asked, “You must have a way to deal with that illegitimate child, don’t you?”
Shen Ru remained silent.
“You weren’t here, so you don’t know how audacious she is. Not only did she deceive Grandfather and Father, but she also slandered me. It was clear that she fell on her own, but she insisted that 1 pushed her. And later, when the servants weren’t around, she pushed me down the stairs. My ankle is still swollen… Don’t believe me? Look…” She rolled up her pants, revealing a bruise on her ankle.
Shen Ru’s expression changed slightly, “Why didn’t you say this earlier?”
“Even if I did, Dad wouldn’t believe me. And as for my brother, he’s been enchanted by that little vixen!”
“You mean… Older brother?”
“Yes! Last week, when Shen Wan had a car accident, my brother went to the hospital every day. He even paid off the truck driver involved. You see, when did my brother become like this? It’s all because he’s been bewitched by that witch!”
Shen Yan poured out her grievances, but she ignored the astonishment that briefly flashed in Shen Ru’s eyes.
Would Shen Qian help Shen Wan?
Was that even possible?
“Alright, I’ve heard what you said. Just don’t engage in these behind-the-scenes maneuvers anymore. I’ll handle it.”
Shen Yan knew her sister’s capabilities and didn’t press further. She wiped her tears and left happily.
That night, Shen Ru couldn’t sleep.
Shen Qian, who was far away in Beihai, also woke up at dawn. After a hasty breakfast, he left the hotel and went to the subsidiary company.
Liu Hui was called into his office.
“Mr. Shen?”
“How’s the investigation into the mole going?”
“It’s still ongoing.”
“Is that so? 1 have a suspicion that might be worth considering.”
Liu Hui’s heart raced. “Please go on.”
“The mole is closer than you think. Wouldn’t you agree, Deputy Director Liu?” Shen Qian casually dropped a bombshell, leaving Liu Hui’s ears ringing.
“Mr. Shen, are you… joking?” He forced a smile, though it looked more like a grimace.
“Liu Hui, your audacity is astounding! Stealing company secrets and disclosing the lowest prices to Hengyi Group! Once we take legal action against you, you’ll definitely find yourself behind bars!”
