Chapter 102 - 102: Adding More Fuel to Fire
“What a mockery!” Li Guang placed his hands behind his back, a sneer curling on his lips. “Even if you can locate all these items, it doesn’t prove that the chefs used them in today’s lunch!”
Zhao Quan expressed his displeasure, saying, “President Fang, you’re entitled to your meal choices, but baseless accusations are unacceptable!”
Li Guang resembled an infuriated hyena, his eyes filled with malice as he stared at Fang Yuan. “1 initially intended to downplay this matter out of consideration for our family ties. However, you insisted on attaching such a damning label to me. Now, everyone has misconstrued the situation with our cafeteria. We’ll have to involve the police!”
“Fine!” Instead of being intimidated, Fang Yuan responded resolutely. “Mr. Li, considering your age, if you’re having trouble with your phone, I can have Wang Ning assist you.”
Li Guang hadn’t expected this young woman to be so unyielding. He sneered, “President Fang, have you thought about the consequences? If I make that call, you’ll lose your job!”
“Will you call the police or not?” Fang Yuan wasn’t interested in prolonging the argument. “If you won’t, I will.”
“Ah-Guang, President Fang is young and impulsive. Show her the list of ingredients we purchased this morning. Prove that they’re all fresh,” Zhao Quan intervened, attempting to defuse the situation.
“There’s no need,” Fang Yuan responded skeptically. “1 heard that the supermarket you bought from is also owned by a relative.”
Zhao Quan exploded in frustration. “President Fang, are you suggesting that our relatives are involved in collusion?”
Fang Yuan regarded him with indifference. “You made that assertion, not me.”
Zhao Quan: “You!”
Fang Yuan turned her attention to Wang Ning, who was ready to call the police. Wang Ning hesitated as Zhao Quan interrupted, “Wait! If we involve the police now, regardless of whether there’s any issue with the food, our company’s reputation will suffer!”
“Oh? So, in your opinion, how should we handle this situation?” Fang Yuan inquired, her interest piqued.
“As long as you apologize to Mr. Li, for my sake, we can pretend that this never occurred…”
Fang Yuan found this amusing and exchanged a glance with Wang Ning, who promptly dialed the police.
“You!” Zhao Quan was furious. This girl had declined a peaceful resolution, opting for a more severe course of action!
Fine, you want to involve the police? He had connections at the police station. Did this girl assume the police station was under her family’s control? How naive! He swiftly took out his phone and sent a WeChat message…
Ten minutes later, several police officers arrived, led by a new face. After hearing Fang Yuan’s account of the situation, the officer instructed someone to retrieve the ingredients from the kitchen for sampling and testing.
“Oh, one more thing.” Fang Yuan used her phone to hack into the surveillance system and restored all the deleted footage from the past year. “I’ve sent all the surveillance footage to your official email.”
“Miss Fang, I apologize for bothering you with such a minor issue,” Captain Zhang, the lead officer, was especially courteous to Fang Yuan. “Rest assured, if the test results reveal that they used substandard ingredients, we will take legal action against them!”
Violations of food safety laws not only resulted in fines but also could lead to the revocation of business licenses and, in severe cases, imprisonment.
Upon hearing this, Zhao Quan began to feel something was amiss. “Captain, is this your first day on the job? I don’t see Officer Qian Guangzong today.”
“You know him?” Captain Zhang looked at Zhao Quan with a disapproving expression. “He was suspended pending investigation today. Why are you asking about him?”
Zhao Quan stammered, “No reason.”
“It’s better if you don’t. Someone reported him for taking bribes. If you contact him now or send any messages, you’d be providing the police with clues and evidence against him. It would only worsen his case,” Captain Zhang cautioned.
Hearing Captain Zhang’s words, Zhao Quan’s heart sank. It was all over. He had just sent a WeChat message stating that he would handle things if they came up. According to their usual arrangement, the benefits… It was all over!
Zhao Quan was drenched in sweat, and Li Guang looked unwell, continually wiping his brow with his hand. Neither of them had anticipated that, after years in business, they would find themselves at the mercy of a young woman.
A police officer approached Li Guang. “Please accompany us for questioning.”
“President Zhao, help me…” Li Guang appealed to Zhao Quan for assistance. He couldn’t afford to be taken away by the police; once inside, he might never get out.
“I’m here. Don’t worry.” Zhao Quan walked over and patted Li Guang’s back, his voice hushed. “Don’t admit to anything. 1’11 arrange for my lawyer to assist you later.”
“Hurry up, then…” Li Guang’s confidence waned, his anxiety growing.
Zhao Quan reassured him, “I understand, don’t fret…”
“Oh, one more thing.” Fang Yuan interjected suddenly, “Mr. Li, you’ve opened seven or eight restaurants, haven’t you?”
Li Guang’s body tensed. What was this young woman plotting? Was she trying to make things worse?
“Mr. Li, you’re dressed in designer clothing, reside in a villa, yet your financial records indicate you struggle to make ends meet and evade taxes. 1 find that perplexing.”
Upon hearing this, Captain Zhang instantly grasped the situation. “Detain him and interrogate rigorously!”
