Chapter 50 - 50: Hero
Fang Liguo shared the same perspective. It seemed likely that Fang Yuan had divulged her identity as the Fang Family’s daughter and Madame Fang’s granddaughter to the nurse, thereby securing the freedom to move in and out of the premises effortlessly.
Observing Fang Yuan’s persistent presence, Song Ling’s patience wore thin. She couldn’t help but exclaim, “Why are you lingering here? Are you waiting for me to call security and have you forcibly removed?”
Fang Yuan rose from her seat, her tone calm as she responded, “The patient requires proper recovery.” She hadn’t originally planned on prolonging her stay. With Madame Old Fang on the brink of awakening, lingering would likely do more harm than good.
As Fang Yuan exited the scene, Song Ling’s frustration swelled, eventually prompting her to employ her tote bag, which she happened to be carrying. In that moment, she clenched the bag’s strap and swung it in Fang Yuan’s direction.
However, before the bag could make contact, a hand whisked Fang Yuan out of harm’s way, causing the bag to miss its mark.
At the sight of the intervening figure, both Song Ling and Fang Liguo were taken aback. “Doctor Chen?”
Wearing an icy expression, Chen Yang confronted them, his good looks masked by an evident chilliness. Even his gaze was devoid of any warmth. “Savior?” Fang Liguo and Song Ling exchanged incredulous glances, their gazes shifting to Fang Yuan. “Her?” Who did she think she was?
Yang Chen’s anger reached its threshold, and he burst out, “If not for her, do you have any idea how many times the patient on that bed would have succumbed? Were it not for her, would Madame Old Fang have been allocated this ward? Would she have received specialized care? Would she still be alive?”
Baffled, Fang Liguo and Song Ling exchanged puzzled looks. What possible capabilities could Fang Yuan possess? Wasn’t it the influence of the Lu Family that secured Madame Old Fang’s place in the VIP room? How did Fang Yuan factor into any of this?
Meanwhile….
Old Master Bo wore an expression of utmost contentment as he gazed at his new granddaughter-in-law. His face was a canvas of smiles, impossible to contain.
“You rascal, a girl as wonderful as her is being so gentle with you! Treat her well, or 1’11 be the first to protest!” he playfully chided.
“I understand.” Bo Yi, known for his reticence, managed just a couple of sentences in front of Fang Yuan.
“This granddaughter-in-law is not only beautiful and youthful, but she’s also knowledgeable in medicine. Won’t there be a line of suitors vying for her attention?” Old Master Bo turned abruptly to Butler Wen and asked, “Am 1 beginning to look too old, in my grandson’s eyes?”
Mu Qing almost burst out laughing. Was this the same grandfather they were talking about? Bo Yi was only 22 years old. How could he be considered old?
“The Young Master and Young Madam are a perfect match… But come to think of it, why hasn’t Young Madam returned yet? It’s been quite a while.” Butler Wen checked the time. “Could something have happened?”
Upon hearing this, Old Master Bo hurriedly said, “Yi, go and check…”
As Bo Yi stepped out of the ward, he spotted a male doctor standing protectively in front of Fang Yuan.
“Isn’t that the doctor who helped Miss Fang Yuan?” Mu Qing’s sharp eyes recognized him instantly. “He’s Chen Yongchang’s grandson, Chen Yang. They seem to be… Is Miss Fang Yuan in some trouble, and Dr. Chen Yang is assisting her?”
A surge of unfamiliar emotions flooded Bo Yi—discomfort, a tinge of bitterness, an inexplicable sensation as if someone had snatched away his cherished treasure.
“They seem to have a close history. Dr. Chen is certainly being very protective of Miss Fang Yuan,” Mu Qing remarked, sensing something unusual in Bo Yi’s demeanor. He playfully prodded, “Master Bo, are you feeling a tad jealous?”
Bo Yi’s response was chilly. “He’s just a doctor. Let’s not exaggerate.”
“Master Bo, both Dr. Chen and Miss Fang Yuan share a background in medicine and common interests. What if…”
Before Mu Qing could finish speaking, Bo Yi had already strode over. Didn’t you say that you weren’t jealous? Why the rush?
“Never mind,” Fang Yuan dismissed them, unwilling to waste any more time, and readied herself to depart.
Chen Yang stepped up in her defense. “It’s important for them to recognize whose efforts have kept Madame Old Fang alive today!”
“There’s no need to elaborate,” Fang Yuan replied curtly before turning to walk away.
With a disapproving glance at Fang Liguo, Chen Yang followed suit and left. “What’s with Doctor Chen’s stance? Isn’t it thanks to both the Lu Family and our family that our mother is still with us?” Song Ling found the situation puzzling. As they exited, she derisively remarked, “Firstly, she didn’t pay a dime, and secondly, she hasn’t contributed anything. Is she supposed to possess some hidden ability that miraculously saved our mother? What a ludicrous thought! Countless specialists have struggled in vain. It’s our financial resources that have kept us afloat. And it’s the Lu Family that provided the VIP ward enabling our mother’s prolonged existence!”
“Let it go,” Fang Liguo chose not to escalate the situation. Being the wealthiest individual in Haicheng City, he couldn’t afford a public confrontation.
Song Ling speculated, “Could it be that Dr. Chen saw this young lady’s beauty and decided to pursue her? Is that why he intervened to rescue the damsel in distress? Perhaps that’s why he treated us so poorly on previous occasions.. Could it all be because of her…”
