Chapter 665: Indebted
Chapter 665: Indebted
Jonathan stared blankly at the wall as he sat on his rocking chair. His thoughts were a mess and his mind was in turmoil. Noah's words kept running in his mind and even though his grandson had not spoken vividly, Jonathan was not a fool to not guess what he was thinking.Noah had come to him with a reason and that was to test him. Jonathan was sure that his grandson had found something, something about him and it had to be Oliver who divulged the truth.
Oliver. As soon as he thought of the man, his eyes darkened and his jaw hardened. He had been a ticking time bomb for a long time and now, he was out to destroy everyone who had harmed him.
Jonathan picked up the telephone on the table beside him and called the number that was registered in his mind. Although it had been a long time since he had dialed the number, he could never forget it and he waited for the person to speak to him.
Jonathan did not have to wait for a long time. His call was answered after a few rings and the familiar voice which he had not heard for almost three years resonated from the other side.
"Master." The voice was filled with surprise and excitement and Jonathan sensed the man's agitation. But he was in no mood to smile and speak to him amicably. He was in a hurry and he had important matters to handle.
"It's been a long time." The man continued but Jonathan interrupted him coldly.
"I have some work for you and it's important."
"Yes, Master. I am of your service. Please give me your orders." The man turned obedient right away and his tone too turned serious and accepting.
"I suspect that Noah has found a thing or two about Mission Code X and my involvement in it."
"How is it possible, Master? Was all the information not concealed? How did Noah find out about it? Moreover...."
"Oliver."
The man went silent all of a sudden and Jonathan pursed his lips as he waited impatiently.
"Was he not dead?"
"No. Ian saved him and he was living with Noah all this time." Jonathan let out a sigh and looked out of the window, his eyes turning downcast and dark.
"Ohh." The man went silent again for quite some time and neither man took the initiative to break the silence until Jonathan cleared his throat.
"Why did he reveal it only now? If he was staying with Noah all this time, he could have done it a long time ago." The man expressed his suspicions and Jonathan had no answer for his questions. He too was doubtful about Oliver's intentions and he could not comprehend his actions.
Jonathan was not in the dark about Noah and his friends rescuing Oliver and since then he had been on tenterhooks. The man was a grenade, ready to explode any time, especially after he woke up. He had been waiting for a long time for Oliver to reveal the truth which no one knew about and now when it had actually happened, Jonathan did not know how to tackle the situation.
"What do you want to do now, Master?"
"Find all the evidence Oliver might have collected against me and destroy them before Noah gets to them. Also..." Jonathan's eyes darkened with sinister intentions and he tapped his fingers on the table. "Kill all the men who were involved in the Mission Code X. I do not want Noah to get to them ever."
"What about Oliver? What do you wish to do with him?" The man questioned all of a sudden and Jonathan bit the inside of his cheek as he thought about it carefully.
"Leave him be. I cannot do anything to him and I will not do anything to him either. He is Noah's father-in-law and I do not wish to harm someone who will soon be my family. Anyway, Oliver is innocent."
"But Master...."
"Noah's happiness is more important to me than anything else and I am willing to sacrifice everything for it, even my life," Jonathan stated with such strong resolve that the man did not argue anymore and silently agreed to go ahead with the plan.
"I will not allow the truth from my past to hurt my children. My dark past should never come to light and I will leave it to you to complete the mission." Jonathan continued and stretched his legs which had gone numb from sitting in the same position for a long time.
"I have already destroyed all the evidence against me. You just make sure that I have not left any traces. I do not want Noah or anyone else to get to me ever."
"Okay, Master. I will do as you say." The man obliged. "Noah is fortunate that he has a grandfather like you who cares about him a lot."
Jonathan did not reply. Instead, he changed the topic immediately. "How have you been living all this time? It must have been hard for you."
"I am fine, Master. I really am." The man stressed even though he understood that his words were not convincing enough.
"You do not have to lie to me. You have suffered a lot and I have nothing but my gratitude to show you. I am really thankful that I have you in my life." Jonathan's voice quivered as he thought of the sacrifices the man had made for him.
"Master, please don't. It is my honor to serve you." The man intervened and Jonathan sensed the sincerity and honesty in his words. Even though they were far away from each other, Jonathan knew that he could trust him with his life. He was one of the few people in his life who would never betray him.
"Thank you so much. Thank you for all that you have done for me. I am forever indebted to you."
"Master." The man cried out in a frenzy. "Please do not speak that way."
"If not for me, you would not have to stay in hiding. I am really sorry." A droplet of tears escaped Jonathan's eye and he did not even care to wipe it.
"Master, I am eternally gratefully to you. You gave me hope when I had nothing with me. For you, I am willing to remain dead to the world for my entire life. I promise. Just..." The man choked on his sobs and Jonathan felt his heart-wrenching pain. "Please take care of Noah, Joshua, and..." he stopped for a moment and took a deep breath. "Ian. I just hope they will lead a better life than I did. That is my only wish as their mentor."
