Chapter 248 - 248 So Tired
Li Xiangjun said as she jumped out of the window.
Zhao Zhan stood up and lowered his eyes to look at the girl in his arms. He forced a smile that was uglier than crying and comforted her in a low voice, “Don’t be afraid. We can leave now.”
Yue Jiaojiao obediently shrank into his arms and nodded.
This wasn’t the time to talk. Even if she had questions to ask, she would have to wait until they left the house safely.
Zhao Zhan carried Yue Jiaojiao and met up with the two people who were guarding the window. “Let’s go.”
When Li Xiangjun heard this, she pushed Fang Tianliu, who was hugging her, away. “Stop wasting time. We need to leave, now.”
The four of them opened the door from the front yard, got into the carriage, and sped all the way to a house in the East of the city.
“Zhao Zhan! We’re here.”
Fang Tianliu was the first to get out of the car. When Li Xiangjun came out of the car, he immediately dragged her away. Zhao Zhan carried Yue Jiaojiao and followed closely behind. They quickly entered the courtyard and went straight to the side room in the backyard.
“Zhao Zhan, where is this?”
“This is the house that Fang Tianli’s mother had bought for him,” Zhao Zhan’s voice was tense as he sat on the edge of the bed with Yue Jiaojiao in his arms. He continued to let her stay in his arms as he carefully checked every nook and cranny until he saw her abnormally bent fingers.
“Was it that Shang fellow who injured you?”
Zhao Zhan’s eyes were dark and gloomy.
He shifted his lover in his arms so that she was sitting on his lap, facing him. Then, he held her hands devoutly. When he saw the blood on her wrist and the hideous wound on her palm, Zhao Zhan’s breathing stopped for a moment.
Yue Jiaojiao felt her palm itch.
Yue Jiaojiao sniffled and sobbed when she saw how delicately he was treating her, “I did it myself. I was thinking that if you didn’t come to find me, I would have found a way to escape.”
Zhao Zhan was silent.
He lowered his head slightly, and his cold lips pressed against the edges of the wound on Yue Jiaojiao’s palm.
Yue Jiaojiao wriggled her fingers. Her voice was still soft from crying. “It’s so dirty.”
“It’s not dirty.” Zhao Zhan raised his eyes and looked at her intently. The corners of his lips were stained with red blood, and his throat was choked with words he could not let out. The veins on his neck were bulging, but he tried hard to keep his face calm for fear of scaring her.
“Be good, sit down first. I’ll go get a basin of warm water to help you clean your wound, and then apply the medicine Doctor Sun gave you, okay?”
“Alright.”
Zhao Zhan sat her down on the bed. He was afraid that she’d get tired sitting up, so he folded the blanket and placed it behind her for her to lean on. Then, he went to the kitchen to get hot water.
As soon as he left Yue Jiaojiao’s line of sight, Zhao Zhan could no longer control the violent thoughts in his mind. He strolled around the kitchen, prepared the tools he needed, and leaned against the door. Only then did he rub his face, carry the basin of water, and return to the room.
However, when he saw the woman’s tears while he was applying the medicine, the hatred that swept through Zhao Zhan’s heart could not be ignored.
“Do you want to rest here for a while?”
There was no way to prepare a bathtub for her for the time being due to the limited conditions they were in. Zhao Zhan took off his outer robes and lay down with her in his arms. He patted her back to comfort her. “You were just captured and must’ve suffered a lot. Are you exhausted?”
“Mhm.” Yue Jiaojiao mumbled in a low voice. “I’m so tired,” she said in nasal voice, looking like a tiny ball in his arms.
