Chapter 421 - 421: I Want to Walk Sideways
Li Zexin turned around slowly. “Yun Xi High School. You must have chosen it too, right? You’ll definitely get in.”
The girl blushed. “You know that I chose Yun Xi High School, and you did it
“You and the class monitor are the two top students in Class 9-3. You two always rank first and second. If not Yun Xi High School, then where else would you both apply?” Li Zexin didn’t need to guess. The answer was obvious.
“Li Zexin, you can make it too. There’s still half a year left and this semester, you are already in the top ten,” He Jiaqi said to him.
“Thank you! I hope we can continue to be classmates,” Li Zexin said with a smile.
After half an hour of discussion, the class teacher announced the next activity on the agenda: student speeches.
Those students who were usually naughty spoke very confidently. So did the others. After the speeches were done, the parents couldn’t help but sigh. They realized that they lacked confidence in their children’s performance at school.
The parent-teacher meeting lasted for two and a half hours. Since it was lunchtime, the school allowed the parents to eat at the canteen with their children.
As Li Zexin and his parents left the classroom, several parents followed behind them. All the mothers’ eyes were fixed on Lin Wan, and the fathers’ eyes were on Li Yanchen.
“I want to walk sideways,” said Li Zexin as he put his hands on his hips, turned sideways, and walked forward.
His wish had come true. His parents had come to his school and were admired by all. He would fly in the sky happily if he had wings.
He felt like a little child who was happy when his parents gave him a simple candy. He felt truly happy.
Chubby Jiang ran to the front and stopped Li Zexin. “Xinxin, are your eyes on your ears? How can you see the way while walking like this?”
“I just want to do whatever I want.” Li Zexin raised his head and smiled.
Preserved Egg pulled at Li Zexin to make him face forward. “Xinxin, you look silly.”
Preserved Egg felt sorry for his friend. In the past, Assistant Qin always came to attend the parent-teacher meetings. When others had their parents or grandparents, he only had Assistant Qin filling in for them since middle school. On the surface, Li Zexin seemed okay. He even said he didn’t care. However, he was so thrilled to see both his parents here in the school today.
At the canteen, Li Zexin grabbed a lunch box and got in line.
“Ms. Lin, what would you like to eat? Just point and the auntie will give it to you,” Li Zexin said.
“Oh my, I never thought I’d experience the school canteen at this age. I feel nostalgic for my student days.” Lin Wan sighed. “This is all thanks to Xinxin.”
“Whatever you want to eat, just ask for it. You can use my meal card!” Li Zexin was feeling generous today, especially because the food in the canteen was very cheap.
“Alright! Mr. Li, your son is treating us today. Let’s eat to our heart’s content. One serving of spicy chicken, one serving of lotus root stuffed with meat, and one serving of spicy hotpot…” Lin Wan picked several dishes that her stepson liked the most.
They found a table and sat down. Li Zexin and Li Yanchen took out their phones and clicked some pictures of them together and also the food.
“Mr. Li, don’t you want to post on WeChat Moments to commemorate this little meet-up? Maybe you won’t have the chance to eat in a middle school canteen again,” Lin Wan said. “Send me the pictures too. I want to post them as well.”
Li Zexin waited excitedly for the pictures to be posted. His brothers would definitely be jealous of him!
Lin Wan also took some pictures and made them into a collage before posting them.
The caption read: “Thanks to Xinxin, I get to enjoy lunch at the middle school canteen. The food is so delicious and affordable!”
[Wanwan, you’re so lucky! I’m envious.]
[Me too. I want to attend a parent-teacher meeting with my stepson. But he says I’m not his mom. He says he has only one mom, in some country or another.]
[Mrs. Deng, it doesn’t matter. Just stay positive. You are better than me. My own biological son doesn’t want me at the parent-teacher meeting! He says one parent at the meeting is enough. He goes with his father.]
[You all really want to attend a parent-teacher meeting that badly? My son is a troublemaker. His father is so angry at him that he refuses to attend any meetings at school. I have to attend it every time! He always causes some trouble. It feels like I need oxygen after listening to the teachers complain about him. I can’t do it anymore.]
[My daughter is quite obedient, but her father is too busy, so I’m the only one who can attend the parent-teacher conference.]
[To be honest, it must be nice to be a parent and attend parent-teacher meetings when your child is obedient and does well at school. If not, it’s really awkward and embarrassing. Every time I go to attend a meeting, I sit in a corner.]
[Mrs. Liu, you’re rich. How is that possible?]
[Well, I can’t just say my son is terrible at those meetings. Money isn’t everything. My family has a lot of money. I’m willing to trade that all away as long as my son gets good grades for a change.]
[Whatever it is, I envy you, Mrs. Liu.]
“Ms. Lin, did you get many likes on your post?” Li Zexin asked.
“I think so. There’s been a constant stream of notifications. Let me check.” She opened the app.
“Indeed, isn’t it strange for me, a high-school graduate, to mix in with middle school students? I didn’t even notice,” she mumbled. She had posted her and Li Zexin’s picture right in the middle, and everyone was focusing on her attending a parent-teacher meeting.
Li Yanchen glanced at her. “Wanwan, they are praising me, saying I’m an exceptional man for attending the parent-teacher meeting with you and cooperating for the photos.”
“Me too! Who is Mrs. Liu? She praised me. She said that she knows my grades are good by just looking at my confident smile! She is proud of me for making my parents proud!” Li Zexin was elated.
‘I want to post one too…’ Li Yanchen wanted to post a picture and get likes from others too!
He edited a photo and posted it and copied most of the caption from Lin Wan.
As expected, many people liked it.
A supplier commented on his picture: “Mr. Li, if you are in danger, blink twice. Attending parent-teacher meetings is so out of place for you.”
A manager of a certain bank replied: “I am taking a screenshot of this.”
A company executive typed: “Mr. Li, you don’t look out of place even among a group of children. You look like you are eighteen again.”
Assistant Qin wrote: “See Mr. Li? I told you attending a parent-teacher meeting was meaningful. You can get a firsthand experience of your child’s daily life. It brings you closer to them.”
Secretary Han wrote: “Mr. Li seems to be enjoying it. Which food is better, Mr. Li? The school cafeteria’s food or ours?”
A certain dealer wrote: “Is the one in the middle your wife? She looks like a middle school student.”
Li Yanchen showed his son the comments on his phone.. “Look, they are all praising me! “
