Chapter 240 - Chapter 240: Lin Wan Couldn’t Decide Whether She Was Touched Or Grateful

“Based on my years of experience reading novels, I think boys like different girls like you. I was quite curious about you at first, too.”

When Luan Rongrong and Xie Wanyu were assigned to the same dorm room, Xie Wanyu did not even speak a word for a week. She looked so reserved. Even when Luan Rongrong dropped something, she would get startled.

It was only after Luan Rongrong had made an effort to initiate a conversation that Xie Wanyu had come out of her shell.

Meanwhile, Li Zexuan stood on the spot, feeling speechless. Xie Wanyu had

run away so last. He reli a sense 01 aereat.

He thought everybody wanted to get close to him, but Xie Wanyu had run away in fright. Why was she so scared of him?

Her voice was so soft, and she looked so timid. But her eyes were clear and sharp, like Ms. Lin’s.

Li Zexuan sighed. “Don’t let your thoughts run wild,” he said to himself. “Any reckless act might cause a huge scandal. It might impact her, too.”

He composed himself and returned to his dorm. Sun Mingtao had already reached. He realized that Li Zexuan’s mood had changed.

“Where were you? Didn’t you say you wanted to return to your room?” asked Sun Mingtao. “I finished the skewers, dropped off Lu Wenqian, and reached here ages ago! You are only arriving now?”

“I took a short walk around the school. The weather is nice today. I was listening to Lu Wenqian’s constant chatter the whole time, so I needed some time alone. It was annoying.”

“My superstar, Lu Wenqian is doing this for your own good! If it were me, I would have abandoned you a long time ago with the way you keep her hanging. She is so patient with you.”

Li Zexuan buried his head in his hands. “I only hope she gets frustrated like you and will actually leave me alone. Don’t take her side every time. Help me come up with a reasonable excuse to go back home,” he sighed. “Now, I suddenly want to eat Grandma Huang’s special pig trotters.”

“An excuse to go home?” Sun Mingtao sat down at the table. “Well… if nothing else, I have a lot of bad ideas!”

“You used the blanket excuse twice. You even made an excuse to go pick up your clothes once… documents! Say that you have some papers that you need to get from your room.”

Li Zexuan’s frowning face relaxed a little. That was a good idea!

“Thanks for your help,” said Li Zexuan. He threw a packet of potato chips at Sun Mingtao. “This is for you.”

“Thank you!” Sun Mingtao was glad he could help. “But why do you want to go home so badly? Just for pig trotters?”

Li Zexuan nodded. “I will bring you some when I come back.”

“But how will Grandma Huang prepare pig trotters for you if she doesn’t know you are coming to get them? It takes a long time to prepare,” said Sun Mingtao. “The fixed line of the dorm is also disconnected, so you can’t make a call!”

Li Zexuan extended his hand. “Oh, please! Hand me your phone that you keep hidden. I know you use it at night.”

Sun Mingtao opened his drawer and took out his phone. “Shh… this is the third one. Haven’t managed to have it confiscated yet. Don’t let anyone find out.”

Li Zexuan turned the phone on and called Grandma Huang. He told her he would come home for a while, the day after tomorrow, and requested for her special pig trotters for a meal.

“You should hide this well,” said Li Zexuan to his friend. “Don’t use it at night. You can see the light from the windows, you know. Anyone will guess you are using your phone. ”

“I know. I will be careful.”

Li Zexin had saved a packet of snacks he had taken from Preserved Egg. He was going to give it to Lin Wan.

Lin Wan went to her room to catch up on sleep after her livestream ended in the afternoon.

During the live broadcast in the afternoon, she felt exhausted. She vowed that she would not do any more video calls for the time being and decided to rest for a while.

Li Zexin didn’t see Lin Wan when he got back from school. He looked around the house. “Grandma Huang, where is Ms. Lin?”

“Madam is upstairs. You can eat some rice if you want. I will go get her.” Auntie Huang took off her apron. Lin Wan had told her to wake her when Li Zexin got home.

In the master bedroom on the second floor, Lin Wan heard a knock on the door and opened her drowsy eyes. “Madam, Xinxin is back.”

“Okay, I’ll come down,” said Lin Wan.

She changed her clothes, tidied her hair, pulled open the curtains, and went downstairs.

When Li Zexin saw Lin Wan, she hid the packet behind his back. “Ms. Lin, I got something for you! ”

Lin Wan looked at her second stepson suspiciously. The last time he had said something like that was when he had brought a lizard home. He had placed it in her hands casually. She had been scared to death.

“You don’t have to close your eyes this time. Here is a hint, it’s delicious.” Li Zexin took out a yellow-wrapped, thin strip-like thing.

Lin Wan could not understand what it was. “What is this?”

“I think it’s some kind of nut with honey and butter. Preserved Egg said he had to hide it to sneak it in. I brought them for you. He was saying some celebrities like this snack as well. Here, try some.” Li Zexin offered it to her.

“Ms. Lin, Preserved Egg says this is the best, and it doesn’t taste the same as other snacks. Take some! Don’t let it slip away. You might not get to eat it next time.”

When he saw that Lin Wan still wasn’t reaching for the snack, he stuffed the packet into her hands. “Here, just try. I am going to have dinner first. After that, I will learn English from you. Tell me how you like the snack later.”

Lin Wan couldn’t decide whether she was touched or grateful. Li Zexin often brought home things for her. Sometimes they would be too scary for her to touch, but the kid had his heart in the right place. He gave them to her as though these were his precious treasures.

A few days ago, he had shown her the grade he got on his English paper. He had secured the highest grade in the classroom. The essay he had written was devoid of grammar mistakes, but what made Lin Wan happy was that the essay had been full of emotions.

Li Zexin had written a thank-you paragraph of 120 words. The whole thing was dedicated to Lin Wan. Even his teacher was touched.

Lin Wan had taken a photo of it and saved it in her photo album. She was proud of him for improving so much. She was grateful that he considered her an important family member.

The little rude boy who always used to play pranks on everyone, especially on her, had suddenly grown up.

Lin Wan put the packet of snacks in her pocket.

Auntie Huang handed her a bowl of soup. “Fill your stomach first.”

“Ms. Lin, is my dad coming home today? I feel like I haven’t seen him in a long time.” Li Zexin finally asked about his father.

“Sir went yesterday,” said Auntie Huang. “He was telling me that he hasn’t seen you in a while, too. He says you children never look for him. He will be happy to know you were asking about him. I will tell him that you did.”

Li Yanchen had complained so many times to Auntie Huang that his children didn’t care about him at all. She somehow felt that he was right..
