Chapter 172 The Second Raid [Bonus]
POV Raiders:
Dozens of people marched through the burned wastelands. A layer of ash and blood stained their shiny armour. Their eyes were eagerly set upon the tall black tower on the horizon. Its black walls projected a terrifying aura through the surroundings, the heavy dealing looming over everyone.
"Let\'s go, people. We will use the same strategy as the last time."
Suddenly the clouds whirled, and a massive beast surrounded by thick clouds of smoke rose into the sky. The bright yellow light radiated through the clouds, and a terrifying presence descended upon everyone. A feeling made like some terrible beast looking at the perpetrating through their bodies.
"The boss! The boss is awake!" someone shouted, their voice panicked.
Everyone felt like cursing, knowing that their raid failed even before it started, as they lost the opportunity to land the first attacks on the sleeping monster.
"Quickly spread out, or we will be wiped out!" Even though he was shocked, Antonius kept his head calm, quickly formulating a new plan.
The whole group immediately dispersed, clouds of ash rising behind them as the parties ran in different directions at inhuman speeds, rivalling the speed of slower cars.
"Merlin, go! We will buy some time!" Antonius unsheeted his sword, fearlessly walking forward, his long blue cloak fluttering behind him, his shiny helmet reflecting the yellow light radiating out of the wyrm.
\'Shit, we didn\'t manage to prepare for an attack. I need to force the wyrm to land...\' Anornius felt his mind work faster than in the real world, the ash-filled wasteland turning into a slow-motion.
Suddenly his eyes fell upon a pouch on his belt, and an idea immediately formed in his head with a smile grin growing on his face.
"Hey, you! If you want this, come and take it! You big lizard!" his voice spread through the emptiness as he lifted up a large golden nugget into the air, reflecting the light from the surroundings.
\'Wyrms are supposed to be greedy, so hopefully, this will work!\'
In an instant, the enormous draconic beast in the sky flapped its wings, its body turning into a golden-black streak. The mass of armour fell from the sky as if it was a meteor. Flames surged all around it, the loud howling akin to the incoming artillery shells entering everyone\'s ears.
Dozens of light flashed across the plains, arrows and magical projectiles shooting towards the wyrm with bright lights ascending towards the sky.
The projectiles flew through the black clouds, light flashing through them, temporarily revealing the imposing black armour covered with swatches of yellow and white magma, with trails of gold spread through its brought rocky surface.
The wyrm, blinded by greed, quickly descended towards the ground leaving behind a path of dark sprawling smoke crackling with electricity. The massive wyrm landed, the land shaking and clouds of smoke spreading everywhere. Two golden lights radiated from the cloud, fixing upon the large nugget of gold.
"Graaah! Give it to me, mortal!" the voice shook his whole body, his heavy plate armour clattering as soundwaves resonated through it.
The massive black armoured arm swept through the air, reaching towards Antonius, its massive palms big enough the grab and turn his body into a red paste.
Mana erupted from his muscles, the world around him turning a blur as he suddenly accelerated. He flickered out of existence, appearing meters away.
A loud crash shook the whole ground, and a cloud of soil and ash rose up with a powerful gush of wind sending Antonius toppling towards the ground, his body flying into the distance as if he was a twig.
He crashed, rolling through the ground, his armour loudly banging. However, he quickly rebalanced himself getting back on his two legs.
A massive gash that looked like an insanely big scratch remained where he stood. A sweat poured down his temple, and adrenaline flooded his whole body, \'Just a step late, and I would be a pancake.\'
The massive wyrm stood on the ground, hidden behind the curtain of ash and gasses. A powerful heat radiated out, Antonius feeling his armour quickly heating up.
Dozens of light once again flared up through the deserts. Short flashes blinked all around the wyrm, dozens of projectiles launching out, exploding all over the mass of armour.
Antonius tightly gripped his sword, the ground under him cracking as he bent his knees and launched towards the monster before him, his mind set only upon buying more times for the rest of his team.
A powerful magic radiated behind him, a grin growing on his face, \'He is almost done!\'
Antonius jumped high into the air, winds whistling around him as he swung his sword in mid-air. Its rune-covered blade descended towards the monster. He couldn\'t see his target but knew that it didn\'t matter.
Suddenly a loud bang ruptured his ears, a powerful force hitting his body, thick clouds and magma blasting against his body, sending him flying backwards with his armour melted and his skin and flesh burning.
He felt nothing, only the distinct feeling of getting injured without any pain. He hit the ground, his body making a crater in it. His bones crashed, and a large portion of his body burned. He couldn\'t even move, only a slight lift up his arm.
\'I have managed it!\'
A bolt of lightning crackled behind him.
Merlin and a dozen more mages stood in the circle. Lightning flowed between them, brightly glowing and concentrating around a massive metallic spike in the middle of the circle.
The lightning crackled for the last time, a powerful magnetic field launching the spike forward. It immediately vanished, loud bangs and shockwaves spreading through the plains, rising clouds of ash. The spike crossed the sound barrier, flying towards the terrifying monster.
As if the time had stopped, everyone stopped moving, holding their breath in expectancy.
A split second later, an even louder bang resonated through the wasteland again, followed by a terrifying shriek.
