Chapter 144 - 144: Please Don’t Interfer Me
At 7 o’clock in the evening,
Shen Ning arrived punctually at the Li Manor.
Today was the first day that Ding Ding was discharged from the hospital, and to celebrate, she had picked up a bouquet of fresh flowers on her way here.
The Li Manor was brilliantly lit, with many servants bustling about.
As she entered, Shen Ning immediately began searching for Ding Ding’s figure. She had no interest in anything else here; her sole focus was to spend every precious moment with her child.
If her child was well, then she was well!
“Sister, tomorrow is my birthday, and Zhengting is going to throw a party for me. Since you’re here, I’m inviting you to join us,” Shen Mei, with an air of arrogance, blocked Shen Ning’s path as they went upstairs.
Shen Ning’s lips curled slightly, her tone indifferent. “I’m sorry, I have to work. My job is to take care of Ding Ding.”
Did this woman genuinely invite her to her birthday party out of kindness? Of course not. She was scheming to humiliate her, and Shen Ning had no intention of falling into her trap.
At this moment, Shen Mei’s eyes fell on the flowers Shen Ning was holding, and she wrinkled her nose in disdain. “Why do you have such cheap flowers? Just throw them away.”
“No, it’s the first day Ding Ding is out of the hospital. I bought these to give to him as a gesture of goodwill,” Shen Ning replied, ignoring Shen Mei. She continued walking towards Ding Ding’s room, clutching the bouquet of flowers.
Shen Mei, frustrated, couldn’t resist and pushed Shen Ning from behind.
Shen Ning, anticipating this, raised the bouquet over her head and out of Shen Mei’s reach.
Shen Mei failed to grab the flowers and resorted to shoving Shen Ning forcefully. Shen Ning stumbled but managed to maintain her grip on the flowers.
“Mom… Aunt.”
Ding Ding, who had been waiting in his room for Shen Ning, heard her voice in the hallway. His heart leaped with joy, and he rushed to open the door, only to witness Shen Mei maliciously pushing his mother to the ground. Furious, he ran to Shen Ning’s side, grasped her arm, helped her up, and glared at Shen Mei.
“Mom, how could you treat Aunt like this? She’s my respected teacher.”
“Respected teacher? Ding Ding, come here,” Shen Mei scowled. “She’s just here to swindle money, getting close to your father. She doesn’t know anything. Don’t let her deceive you.”
“No, she’s my best teacher and the kindest aunt. 1 want her,” Ding Ding retorted angrily. “Please don’t interfere.”
“Ding Ding, these flowers are for you. I wish you good health and success from now on,” Shen Ning said, extending the bouquet towards Ding Ding with deep sincerity.
“Thank you.” Ding Ding accepted the flowers and brought them close to his nose, taking a whiff. A rare smile appeared on his otherwise expressionless face, and he held the bouquet tightly.
Shen Mei, left with no face or substance, seethed with hatred as she watched them.
“Mommy, I’m hungry.” When they returned to the bedroom, Shen Ning had planned to take Ding Ding for a bath and play some parent-child games with him. She didn’t expect Ding Ding to say this.
“Haven’t you had dinner?” She asked in surprise.
“No, look at my tongue.” Ding Ding pitifully shook his head and stuck out his tongue, making a pained expression.
Shen Ning’s heart sank, and she carefully examined his little tongue, which did indeed look a bit red.
“What’s wrong?” She asked anxiously.
“It’s spicy, really spicy, and my tongue hurts.” Ding Ding said with a muffled voice, still nursing his tongue.
Shen Ning immediately called the butler, ATr. Luo. After inquiring, she learned that today was Lai Wanching’s fasting day, as she had gone to the church and had not returned yet. Due to Ding Ding falling ill, it had delayed Li Zhenting’s work, so he was working late. Shen Mei had instructed the kitchen to prepare dishes she liked, all of which were spicy.
Ding Ding had been forced to take a few bites, but it was so spicy that tears welled up in his eyes, so he had given up on dinner and come upstairs..
