Chapter 35
It was the first time she had seen so many candied fruits piled up like a small mountain on the coffee table.
“Are we having guests, Mom?” She couldn’t believe that she had a share of so many candied fruits.
She would use the pocket money that Qu Zhi gave her to buy candied fruits, but Qu Zhi was always afraid that her teeth would decay, so she didn’t allow her to eat these.
Although Chuchu was a glutton, she listened to her mother very much. If Qu Zhi didn’t allow it, she really wouldn’t buy it.
She didn’t expect that her mother would buy so many candied fruits one day and even allow her to eat without restraint.
“There are no guest. Let’s eat them together.” Qu Zhi forced out a smile and held back the words in her mouth.
However, when she thought of Huang Qing’s words, Qu Zhi’s appetite suddenly disappeared. She looked at Chuchu, who was stuffing candied plums into her mouth, chewing until her cheeks were full, then told her to brush her teeth after eating.
Sisi seemed to know that her fate would change, and she kicked around in her stomach, unable to rest.
“Ring...” The landline phone at home rang.
“I’ll pick it up, I’ll pick it up!” Chuchu immediately put down the paper bag.
Qu Zhi’s complexion had not been good the entire afternoon. She was not willing to let her mother walk so far away to answer the phone.
“Yes, hello?” Chuchu acted like a little adult who was in charge of the house. “Who are you looking for?”
“Hello, is your mother here?”
Qu Zhi felt that the voice was a little unfamiliar, and the other party’s tone was also quite strange, so she got up to answer the phone.
“It’s me, who are you looking for?”
The other party seemed to be a little embarrassed. After a moment of silence, she said, ” I’m Peng Xi. Your mother asked me to bring you a free-range chicken this morning. I’ve already gotten off the train.”
Qu Zhi almost dropped the phone in her hand.
The Peng Xi who carried sisi away?
Actually, before Sisi was born, Qu Zhi never expected such a woman to appear in her life.
Peng Xi was older than Qu Zhi by eight years. They could not get along, and Qu Zhi had long since lost all impression of her. However, Huang Qing and Peng Xi’s mother were friends from the same unit, so Huang Qing would occasionally mention Peng Xi in front of Qu Zhi.
Although Peng Xi’s grades were good and she was able to get into high school, she was insensible when she was in high school and got into a relationship with a young man outside, which caused her to get pregnant at an early age.
Her mother ran to the school, crying and making a fuss. Blaming the school for being irresponsible to the students and Peng Xi’s unruly behavior, making her drop out on the spot.
Later, when she went for an abortion, Peng Xi’s illness had taken root and she no longer had the ability to conceive.
Qu Zhi had met her husband before. Her husband was the boss of a small clothing factory. He looked handsome and really loved children, but he had no humanity when it came to domestic violence.
He looked down on Peng Xi, openly and secretly disdaining her for being dirty. Later on, when Qu Zhi saw Peng Xi, she would apply a thick layer of powder on her face to cover up her scars.
The funny thing was, they were clearly not related by blood, or even related in the least, but in the last two months before Sisi was born, Peng Xi had been thinking about the child in her stomach.
Qu Zhi sneered, “Get lost. I don’t want it.”
Then, he hung up the phone with a “bang.”
Chuchu’s eyes were watery as she looked at Qu Zhi. “Mommy, don’t be angry.”
Qu Zhi smiled and apologized to her, “Mom shouldn’t have said such vulgar words. I’m sorry, Chuchu.”
Chuchu obediently nodded.
After another hour, Liang Wen called. “Your mom told me she ask someone to send a free-range chicken over. She came all the way here and is at the entrance of our neighborhood. The sun is so bright outside, but you didn’t pick her up.”
Qu Zhi tried her best to suppress her anger. “That’s Peng Xi!”
The person who stole her baby without a word.
“Who’s Peng Xi? I don’t know her.” Liang Wen’s phone was ringing non-stop. “I still have something to do. Hurry up and pick up the call. Why are you making things difficult for an acquaintance?”
He hung up the phone.
In her anxiety, Qu Zhi had forgotten that Liang Wen didn’t know Peng Xi.
However, it was impossible to pick her up, so she started watching TV. Not long after, someone knocked on the door.
Qu Zhi pulled the door open, Peng Xi was standing tall and thin outside, her body reeking fishy smell.
She looked at her with a bright smile, holding a box of pure milk in one hand and a black plastic bag in the other.
Without waiting for Qu Zhi to decline, she placed the items on the floor.
“I won’t disturb you anymore, Sister.” She bowed in a fawning manner, then turned around and went outside.
