Chapter 640.2: Land of Genesis (2)

Roel and Alicia walked through the fog with linked hands, Alicia leading the way and Roel trailing slightly behind her. The thick fog hindered their sight and mana sensitivity, such that he could only barely see her silhouette.

His inability to sense mana induced great discomfort, to the point where he felt that the path ahead was merely an illusion. He was only comforted by the warmth transmitted to his palm.

“Alicia, why do you have to walk in front? Can’t we walk together?”

“I also dislike the fact that I’m unable to look at Lord Brother, but the white fog won’t allow us to pass if I don’t take the lead.”

The two of them weren’t even a meter apart, but Roel somehow felt that Alicia’s voice was coming from far away. Nevertheless, he tried his best to listen to her explanation, and it enlightened him to the current situation.

They were traversing Shrouding Fog’s spatial folds, and there was only one person with the access rights for that—Alicia.

“Lord Brother, I’ll have to ask you to be patient, or else we might end up getting lost for good in here.”

“Oh? What’s our destination?”

“We should be reaching it soon.”

“Hm?” Roel’s eyebrows shot up.

Ten minutes later, the thick white fog obscuring his vision finally started to thin.

Alicia’s silhouette slowly became clearer, and he started to sense mana around him once more. With the discomfort fading, his heart was finally put at ease. A majestic structure slowly revealed itself before him, making him widen his eyes.

It was an incomparably massive structure that felt reminiscent of the pyramids in his previous life, but it was of a completely different scale. It had a length exceeding thousands of meters, and its height was roughly the same.

The tallest skyscraper in Roel’s previous life was nearly a thousand meters tall, but this structure was several times that. The space within must have been incomparably vast. Before it, Roel and Alicia looked no different from a speck of dust.

“Was this place built by the giants?”

Or is it their grave?

Roel had wanted to ask Grandar about it, only to hold himself back when he realized that would have meant that this place was the Giants’ grave.

I should have brought some flowers… Ah, but given the Giants’ warlike nature, if this was really their grave, they would have at least put a few swords in here.

Roel quickly shook his head to put an end to his wandering thoughts. Alicia looked around a bit before remarking, “Lord Brother, you should feel a sense of belonging to this place.”

“A sense of belonging?”

“This is the birthplace of the Six Calamities in the ancient era.”

“!”

Roel’s lower jaw fell slack. He turned his attention to his Crown Origin Attribute, where he found the Crown’s Stones humming excitedly despite their recent silence due to his injuries.

“I see. I didn’t expect there to be a place like this,” he murmured as he faintly figured out what Alicia was thinking about.

Alicia then led him to scale the thousands-of-meters-tall structure.

That was the height of the highest mountains in Roel’s previous world; even an experienced climber would require months of intense training and acclimatization to scale it.

However, it didn’t pose a challenge to the two high transcendents. They didn’t even have to climb it with their limbs. With Alicia’s help, they were practically flying their way up the mountain.

It was then that Alicia suddenly called out, “Lord Brother?”

“Yes?”

“Do you know why it’s impossible to eliminate the Six Calamities?”

Roel was startled before slowly shaking his head, replying, “Many academics in the past have studied this topic, but there has never been a satisfactory conclusion… Does it have something to do with this place?”

“Indeed.” Alicia glanced at Roel before elaborating, “We’re at the altar Sia used to sever Her powers back in the ancient era. Her severed powers gained their own attributes and sense of self, and that marked the birth of the Six Calamities. One of them, Shrouding Fog, inherited the attribute of space. Shortly after its birth, it devoured this place whole.

“This action was motivated by self-preservation. It instinctively understood that as long as this altar wasn’t destroyed, any of the Six Calamities that had been vanquished out there would be reborn here.”

“Is that the reason the Six Calamities can’t be destroyed?” Roel asked.

“That’s right. And up here are the tributes used for their birth back then.”

It only took a few short minutes for Roel and Alicia to reach the top of the structure.

There, they found a small platform with six bundles of light in the center. These bundles of light were containers storing magic items such as an ice block that continued to emanate frost to this day, the first piece of lava in the world, and so on.

Roel’s Crown Origin Attribute resonated strongly in response to these items.

His eyes lit up when he saw the bundle of light containing a faint aurora, but he dared not to make a reckless move. Instead, he turned to the tour guide and asked, “Alicia, I understand the situation now. What should I do next?”

Much to his surprise, Alicia was staring at him with glistening eyes carrying a hint of slyness.

“Next, we’ll have to do this…” she said as she leaned forward and sealed his lips.
