Chapter 104
The vehicle ran smoothly along the paved road and soon arrived in Aijet, the central district of Tezeba.
Noah was surprised as she entered the Bureau of Investigation after Kyle. It wasn’t because of the gray exterior that created a sense of overbearing, or because of the odd stone statues that looked down on people as they entered and exited from both sides of the entrance, but of a red carpet that didn’t belong well to the solemn atmosphere.
Scarlet petals were scattered over it, and a procession of servants lined up along the carpet. At the end of the splendid red carpet stood a little rotund man with his back against the entrance. He wore a cape so red that at first glance, it seemed that he wore a carpet over his shoulders.
Who is that guy? While Noah wondered, the men lined up beside him turned their heads towards their side at the same time.
She became conscious of the men’s ferocious stares. They were people who were unaware of her story, and seemed to bear feelings of resentment for her.
Park Noah, I’m sure you’ll live a long life.
Suddenly, a man whose eyes were somehow glaring, approached Noah. “Long time no see, Lady Asil. You too, General Manager of the Bureau of Investigation.”
When the man greeted Kyle, a subtle hint of irritation and dismay flashed in Kyle’s eyes, but it only lasted for a second. He then bowed to the man, whispering to Noah. She read the shape of his lips.
Mi… Mu… Minister? Oh, the Finance Minister. No wonder he looked so strict.
The Finance Minister looked up at Kyle and glanced down at Noah. His brown orbs beyond the lenses of his spectacles had a deep contempt from the moment he laid his eyes upon her. “The Lady still looks fierce.”
It seemed to Noah that he was one of the people who had suffered from Eleonora. Noah didn’t try to bow, a slight frown evidently displayed on her face.
The Minister clicked his tongue, “A woman who knows shame would never have thought of coming back to the capital city, but in a sense, that’s great, Lady. Your impudence makes me want to be a little like you. If I were you, I’d pretend to be embarrassed instead of staring at me blatantly. But no cuteness.”
An incomprehensible vitriol resounded in the room. Listening to it, Noah assumed he was referring to Eleonora and Adrian’s quarrel in the city.
It wasn’t Noah’s personal experience, so it didn’t hurt, but she felt bad still. It’s not cute? Why should I be cute to you?
While Noah was pondering whether to reply or not, an unusual person approached them. It was the man with a scarlet cape draped on his back, who caught Noah’s eye as soon as they entered.
Kyle bowed his head with much sincerity than he had towards the Finance Minister. “Your Majesty, the Emperor.”
Who? Noah looked at the man in front of her again in astonishment. He appeared like an ordinary middle-aged man, with soft brown hair and gentle eyes, a tender heart, but unfortunately, no charisma.
“I was just about to post a report, Your Majesty.”
“No worries. As soon as I heard that the ship had reached the harbor, I came right away.”
Emperor? Emperor of Laurent? Noah stared blankly at them, mumbling to herself. “Ah… no wonder.”
From the moment she entered the Bureau of Investigation, Noah thought something was wrong. She wondered why there were so many people wearing the same clothes, and it seemed to be servants that the Emperor brought along. The fact that he did not summon her directly to the Imperial City, but even came to the Bureau of Investigation himself meant that he was in a haste.
“I hope and hope not, but I presume you are the one who possesses the egg of the dragon?” The Emperor turned to Noah.
“Oh, well…”
Noah was unable to utter a response immediately as she contemplated on her words. Instantly, she was reprimanded.
“This lady, you know! What kind of behaviour is that? She doesn’t respond to His Majesty immediately!”
Noah was becoming anxious. Overwhelmed, a blunt answer slipped out of her mouth instead. “I’m trying to figure out what to say now, Minister. And your wig is crooked, by the way.”
“What, what…”
“You should raise it a little to the right.”
Noah set an example, fixing her hair, and the Minister hurriedly raised a couple of gray hair to the right. Little did he know, it was only Noah’s prank. His wig was actually skewed in the right, so when he pushed it to the same direction, the wig fell to the floor.
“This… this vile…” The Minister’s face turned pale and suddenly flushed red. Unable to find anything to say, he turned around and hurriedly arranged his wig.
Kyle squeezed his forehead, and Noah gave him a sullen look. He was the one who said she ought to act like Eleonora Asil. If she did so, there wouldn’t be a single person who would be able to do anything to her, even if he was the ruler in this country.
Imitating the witch meant she was to behave pompously, but Noah had no talent to mimic her elegance, so she decided to give up and take a different path.
Namely, The King of Destruction, Park Noah.
She glanced at the largest and thickest pillar at the entrance. With one glimpse, mana twisted like a string of rope, which wounded on the pillar and tightened around it. It was a sight only visible only to the eyes of Noah and Muell, unseen to everyone else.
Soon, the pillar, wider than a person’s extended arms, broke.
