Chapter 263 You Can't
ied Talking with Jovani did little to help Lena feel better.
She glared at the phone before she handed it back to Samuel. She knew that he had a point in what he said but it wasn't what she wanted to be hearing at the current moment.
Even if no one said anything specific to her, she knew that something was wrong. She could feel it.
"I know what you're thinking but you also know that he's right. You need to stay here right now regardless of what is going on." Samuel told his fiancé as he put his phone back in his pocket.
He didn't know exactly how he was supposed to get her to stay there with him, he just knew that it had to happen.
"Why don't we wait to see what Hester comes up with first and to hear back from Jovani before we decide what to do next? He's going to be there before we are after all." He pointed. He would have normally tried to hug Lena to reassure her but in her current mood, he knew that would be the wrong choice.
Physical contact would be reserved for if he needed to it to stop the princess from doing what she wanted should she refuse to stay the estate with them.
"I would rather not wait and be there myself to see what is going on. Absolutely nothing good is going to come from me staying here waiting around." The princess argued.
"I know that you think that, but what it's important is also your protection. If everything is fine with your father and brother but something happens to you because you react rather than respond, that's going to complicate things even more." Samuel argued.
"Plus, it isn't just that we would be worrying about if you left right now. Romeo would have to go with you and whoever else to make sure that everything is okay. If there's another trap planned, you wouldn't be the only one who's in danger."
"Do you think that I'm not already aware of that? Do you think that I don't care about the lives of those around me and am only seeking to ensure the life of my family even at the cost of others without understanding the weight of that consequence?" As Lena spoke, her voice took a far harsher tone than Samuel had heard from her in quite a while.
"I am well aware of all of these things, that is why I haven't done anything yet. Unlike you, I have grown up in this lifestyle where I understand the consequences that each little action has even if one thinks it does not." Her hands dug into the arms of the chair where she was sitting. A fire was burning in her eyes as she barely held back her anger as she continued speaking.
"There's not just one side to this however. These people here who work with us are an extended part of our family as well. They've sworn their lives to protect us and keep us safe in return for us taking care of them. My father right now is the leader of this family, the one that is keeping them together, taking care of and protecting them. Do you even know what would happen to everyone if something happened to my father?"
Samuel didn't quite know how to respond to this as the other stared at him intently, waiting to see what his reply would be. He didn't say anything and Romeo didn't reply in his defense either. The princess's moods and words seemed to weigh heavily on his as well based upon the expression that was on his face.
The princess scoffed at his lack of response.
"Sammy-boy, there's still a lot of things in this lifestyle that you can't possibly grasp yet as you haven't been around long enough. My protection is important but only at a small scale compared to ensuring that my father is okay the current moment in time." She stood up as she continued to speak.
"I will not do anything that will purposely risk my life or the lives of those around me, but the most important thing right now is ensuring my father and brother's safety and preventing things from falling into chaos before word gets around that anything has happened."
"I understand where you're coming from princess, but I can't allow you to do that." Romeo spoke up this time as he stepped in front of the door again. His expression was a rather grim one he spoke.
"I know that I am in the service of both you as well as your father. However, his authority at this point in time trumps your own." He told the other who shot him a hard look.
"What exactly is that supposed to mean?" Out of everyone in the room, she thought that he would be the one who would be most willing to let her leave the estate to go find out what happened to the rest of her family. It seemed that she had been wrong about this.
"I mean princess that your father has left me very strict instructions as to what should go on in the case that anything were to ever happen to him. My instructions have and still are to ensure the safety of you and your brother." The bodyguard explained.
"While I cannot protect your brother as he is with the boss. I can make sure that you stay safe at this point and don't do anything reckless that would put you in harm's way."
"Romeo, you more than anyone else should understand how important this is right now. You can't be serious in saying that you expect me to stay here and do nothing." The princess was starting to get exasperated at this point.
"Unless I get new orders from your father, you can't be allowed to leave here until everything is secured including his safety and there is no longer any risk for you to leave." The other replied causing the princess to sigh.
It was one thing when it was Samuel who was arguing with her about this, but another thing for Romeo to be so set on this matter. The orders came directly from her father who she knew held a high level of priority to the bodyguard.
After all, Romeo and Clive were two of the men that had been working with her father the longest. In terms of care, respect, and adoration for Zane, they had perhaps the most of all of those and more than that for their boss compared to anyone else.
