Chapter 300 297: Killing the killers!

Chapter 300 297: Killing the killers!

Instantly, he was granted absolute control over the lurking shadows around him.

A thought crossed Val's mind, and its effect played out in real life.

Following his will, like tendrils of the night, the shadows of the dark wizards snaked out, ensnaring them one by one. They couldn't even muster a scream, as Val sealed their mouths shut with their own shadows to ensure their incapacitation would be silent and swift.

In mere moments, the majority of the dark wizards found themselves helplessly bound and muted.

This all happened in the span of a single breath. So no one was able to stop it.

The dark wizards, trapped in the vice-like grip of their own shadows, quivered uncontrollably. They struggled to escape but it was all in vain. Fear seeped into their souls as they came to a horrifying realization: they were powerless against the very essence of their being that had now turned against them.

'It feels as if the immutable hands of destiny itself have ensnared us, ensuring we won't be able to escape our impending doom. Is this karma getting back to us?'

'I don't want to die.'

They all thought the same thing. None of them was a good person. They were killers. Their hands were drenched in the blood of countless innocent souls. They had not regretted the life they lived. They were just afraid that they were at the receiving end of a killer's wrath and couldn't do anything to survive it!

Clea's usually unwavering gaze widened with a mixture of surprise and disbelief. He hadn't expected Val to be a level 2 mid-rank wizard. Actually, he was mistaken. Val was only a level 1 mid-rank wizard. But because he had used two different types of shadow powers, Clea misjudged him.

Anyways, even among wizards, shadow wielders were renowned for their elusive and unpredictable nature. Facing a shadow wizard with a plan that has already proved to be useless was an astronomical mistake.

Despite knowing this, he had no intention of stopping the hunt.

The tables had turned, but his resolve remained undeterred.

"I didn't plan for this, but I will not let him get away with Oliver," he thought.

Ron, on the other hand, felt a creeping sensation of dread. After all, even a peak mid-rank shadow wizard couldn't immobilize several targets simultaneously, yet Val had done it effortlessly. The recollection of Val's earlier words echoed ominously in his ears. It dawned upon him that Val's claims might not have been mere boasts. The young wizard could genuinely be a formidable adversary, capable of confronting them head-on

Ron, on the other hand, felt a creeping sense of unease that was fast evolving into genuine fear. His knowledge of shadow magic told him that what Val had achieved was far beyond the scope of a regular mid-rank wizard. He must either be at the peak stage or had a superior quality darkness core.

As this realization dawned on him, the haunting echo of Val's confident words began to take on a sinister edge in Ron's mind.

'Perhaps they weren't just arrogant claims; perhaps Val truly holds the power and the capability to bury us all in this meadow.'

"Ron, get to them! Free the assassins!" Clea's voice rang out sharply, pulling Ron out of his daze.

Nodding, Ron prepared to teleport, "I'm on it."

However, as he emerged amidst the incapacitated dark wizards, the very fabric of space began to undulate and twist.

From these eerie spatial warps, skeletal beings burst forth.

Their hauntingly hollow eye sockets were ignited with an unsettling black flame.

"Kill them," Val commanded.

Without a moment's hesitation, the undead plunged their skeletal hands into the dark wizards' chests, cruelly wrenching out their throbbing hearts with a gruesome efficiency.

A notification rang out in Val's ears.

He took it out of the system space and wore it.

Meanwhile, the color drained from Ron's face, his eyes reflecting the horror of the scene unfolding before him.

"What dark sorcery is this?" he whispered, his voice nearly inaudible.

Guwah!

Without warning, one of the undead, its burning eyes locked onto Ron, let out a guttural roar and lunged ferociously. Its sharpened claws, appearing more lethal than any blade, cut through the air aiming straight for him.

Reacting purely on instinct, Ron teleported behind the creature before channeling his soul power into a mighty blow that landed on the level 3 undead.

Bam!

The impact shattered the skeletal figure into countless fragments.

But the feeling of triumph was fleeting.

"What the hell? It can't be killed?"

To Ron's horror, the bone fragments began to move of their own accord, gradually reassembling. In moments, the skeletal menace stood erect, ready for another round.

It lunged at him, but Ron lashed out with a swift kick, sending the creature sprawling.

Just then, he was hit by several objects. Looking down, one could see still beating hearts. He turned around, only to see a bunch of undead pointing their palms towards him.

His eyebrow raised. What are they up to?

His question was answered as the undead assailant unleashed a torrent of corrosive acid in his direction.

"Holy fuck!"

Ron was shocked. But not caught off guard.

Acting with split-second precision, he invoked a protective barrier of soul power. The radiant shield enveloped him, repelling the deadly acid and guarding him from immediate harm. He remained uninjured.

The relentless undead continuously attacked Ron's protective shield, their sharp, bony fingers digging into it with a fervor that seemed beyond the capacity of mere skeletons. With every pounding, cracks spider-webbed across the shield, indicating it wouldn't withstand their onslaught for much longer. And just as Ron anticipated, the shield shattered into a million shards, each sparkling momentarily before disappearing into thin air. However, by the time the shield broke, Ron had already teleported to a safer location.

However, teleportation, especially in rapid succession, wasn't without its flaws. Each teleport caused a subtle distortion in space. To the average onlooker, this distortion was nearly invisible and lasted for only a split second.

However, those equipped with keen senses or special skills could detect this spatial distortion. Val, gifted with an ability that provided him with an eagle's view of his surroundings, could pinpoint these disruptions with ease. Thus, he saw where Ron would reappear.

Seizing this opportunity, Val unleashed one of his most potent skills - Blood Manipulation: Red Torrent. The moment Ron rematerialized, he was greeted by a swirling vortex of deep crimson.

There was no time to react.

BOOM!

A massive explosion consumed Ron. The raw energy from Val's attack tore him apart, reducing him to nothing more than ash and memory.

From a distance, Clea, who had been surveying the battlefield, witnessed the swift end of his ally. His face contorted with a blend of rage and shock.

The tables had indeed turned. Not only the henchmen he had confidently employed were now lifeless, but even Ron - his most loyal subordinate and childhood friend - was dead.

He was going to kill them after the assassination, but that didn't mean he was fine with just anyone killing them, especially Ron. His right-hand man's life was his to take, but now it was going to stay a dream forever!

'This humiliation is unbearable. I have to get at least one of them to make things right again!'

Clea, driven by both anger and desperation, charged toward Val with the speed of lightning. But as he closed in, Val raised his head and looked in his direction. Their eyes locked in an intense standoff.

Val's lips moved, uttering a quiet yet spine-chilling proclamation, "You're next on the list of people who will be buried here tonight."

The weight of those words, coupled with the overwhelming aura Val exuded, transformed him in Clea's eyes. No longer was he merely a man. Val appeared as a fearsome demon, ready to claim another soul.

For the first time that night, genuine fear gripped Clea's heart. Without a second thought, he turned and bolted in the opposite direction.

Val gently laid Oliver on the ground and then he commanded his undead minions, "Guard him."

After that, Val chased after Clea at the top of his speed, his figure blurring in and out of existence. Each time he appeared, he had covered hundreds of meters.

Val's speed was on an entirely different level, making him incomparably faster than Clea. Each stride he took brought him closer to sealing Clea's fate, the distance between the two diminishing rapidly.

The chase was on.
