Chapter 369 366- Conflict At The Southern Border (5)
The young man called Cheng Li shot a hateful glare at Ji Niu before he spat.
“Nasty little Demoness, who are you calling a pervert? You better-Huh, Oh? And who might this sister be?”
Cheng Li’s focus abruptly shifted to Lihua when he saw her from the corner of his eyes. However, Fei Yin held out his hand with a frown when he was about to approach her.
Something about this person rubbed him the wrong way.
“Huh? Who is this annoying brother?”
Cheng Li said as he shot a glance towards Fei Yin.
“Sister Ji Niu, why must you insult me every time you see me?”
Contrary to the burly Shi Lei’s appearance, he acted meekly as he softly spoke to Ji Niu. Twiddling his fingers and all.
Mu Fan who was sizing up Shi Lie ever since he came in did a double take. A strange expression overcame his face that was soon replaced by disappointment.
“How many times did I say to stop acting so cowardly in front of me? It definitely does not suit you. Do you think I want a man as spineless as you?”
Hearing Ji Niu’s words, Shi Lie seemed to have been stabbed in his chest by a knife.
“WHAT?! DAMN IT!!”
Another voice echoed out before a silhouette dashed up the stairs.
“Fuck! What are you all doing here?! Get lost I saw them first!!”
Without saying another word, Wu Kai who was adorned in battle attire quickly located Jun and charge towards him. The sword by his waist was pulled and a mighty sword aura along with intense heat rolled out in waves as he slashed towards Jun.
“Kyaa!! What the hell is this crazy person doing, can’t you see I’m here as well?!!”
Ji Niu cried out at Wu Kai’s crazy actions.
Luckily before the entire pavilion’s second floor could be destroyed by Wu Kai’s sword energy, his neck was quickly grabbed by Shi Lei.
With a sizzling sound, Shi Lei’s hand which was covered in Water Qi suppressed Wu Kai’s fire aura.
“Huh? Shi Lei you bastard what are you holding me for? Are you planning to keep them for yourself? Bastard let go!!”
While holding Wu Kai by his neck like a chicken, Shi Lei frowned and said.
“You idiot, don’t you know fighting in the city is forbidden? Do you want me to tell uncle about this? You even took away the equipment from the barracks.”
Wu Kai hearing that froze.
Glaring at Shi Lei he growled.
“Shi Lei you punk, are you going to rat me out like this? I thought we were friends.”
“I will if you continue acting like a lunatic. And you almost attacked sister Ji Niu, I wouldn’t have forgiven you if you did that.”
Wu Kai frowned but he seemed to calm down after Shi Lei’s words.
Meanwhile, Jun and Mu Fan were looking on at Shi Lei and Wu Kai’s dynamic with a weird expressions.
“White hair kid, me and you, let’s head to the battle arena. You can bring that big guy with you as well, I'll fight both of you at once!”
Wu Kai jabbed a finger in Jun’s direction as he said that.
Shi Lei took this time to look over at Jun and seeing Ji Niu sitting on his lap, a look of displeasure appeared on his face.
Putting down Wu Kai, Shi Lie walked over to where Jun was, and looking down at him he said.
“Little brother, why don’t you get up and have sister Ji Niu sit at your seat.”
Jun looked confused, while Ji Niu ignored Shi Lei’s presence.
A second go by, but when Shi Lei saw that Jun wasn’t moving he suddenly reached forward.
“Hey, do you not want your hand?”
Shi Lei paused, before looking over to Mu Fan.
Their gazes met in the air and sparks immediately began to fly.
Silence fell on the second floor of the pavilion.
Fei Yin and Cheng Li’s eyes were locked, similarly, Jun turned and looked to see Wu Kai staring at him eagerly.
Ji Niu as well had gone back to locking eyes with Lihua.
Tensions were high and the air was palpable.
It was then a voice broke the silence.
“According to the Southern City rules, fighting in the city is punishable by forty years in solitary confinement.”
Cold and detached, this was the feeling everyone would get upon hearing this voice.
Slowly, a girl who looked to be in her late teens or early twenties that was dressed in battle attire came up the stairs. From the blood splatter across her chest, it seemed as if she just came out of a bloody battle.
Adding her ice-cold expression to this appearance and her image was that of ice beauty with the might of a heroic general.
Behind her was an equally expressionless young man, that seemed to be her attendant. But shockingly, there were two small horns that protruded from this young man’s forehead.
With his sickly pale white skin, he didn't seem to be of the human race.
Seeing this young girl, Ji Niu’s expression lit up.
“Sister! You've returned!”
Ji Niu’s figure abruptly vanished and before her words could even finish she was already hugging the expressionless girl.
Jun secretly released a sigh of relief, before he quickly went to calm down his excited little brother. As a cultivator in control of his body on a macro and micro level, he shouldn't have allowed something like this happened to him. However, there was an aura about Ji Niu that made something awaken within him he didn't know he had.
Jun shook his head at these thoughts, now he was thinking of rectifying the situation since it had looked like he willingly allowed Ji Niu to sit in his lap.
He glanced in Lihua's direction, but she seemed not to notice it, or his presence in general.
Jun's mood became sour.
Back to Ji Niu, the expressionless girl looked down at her at Ji Niu and reprimanded her.
“Ji Niu, how many times have I told you to stop wearing such revealing clothes?”
“Wah, sister after not seeing me for several months you decided to reprimand me upon our first meeting? Sister, isn’t that too cruel?”
Ji Niu seemed to be on the verge of tears as she said that.
Seeing this, the coldness on the young girl’s face drastically lessened than usual, which was about 1/10.
She patted Ji Niu’s head and comfort her by saying.
“Why are you so upset? I brought back some beast cores, you can sell some to buy more clothes you like. Just don’t buy any more of these ones okay?”
Ji Niu’s tearful face suddenly beam with a smile as she happily nodded.
Though it was obvious to everyone except the expressionless girl that she had just been duped.
After speaking with her little sister, the expressionless girl looked at the table, her face reverting back to how it was previously.
“What’s happening here? If you all want to fight do so at the designated area of the city. And you boy surname Wu, I heard you started a fight on the streets.”
Wu Kai who had become significantly quiet quivered when the girl looked at him coldly.
"I-I apologize senior sister Ji Mei."
The expressionless girl who turns out to be Ji Mei, stared at Wu Kai coldly as he bowed.
"Don't let it happen again."
Ji Mei then swept her gaze over everyone at the table once again.
"As visitors, you must follow the Southern City rules or serve our punishments for breaking them."
As Ji Mei said that, an intimidating aura wafted from her. It wasn’t done on purpose, it's just that after being on the battlefield commanding people, she natural radiate an aura of authority.
Though Yang Su frowned a bit from behind his veil. He then diffused his own aura to nullify hers.
Ji Mei in response turned to look at Yang Su with a glint in her eyes.
The young man behind her that had been silent up until now also notice what Yang Su was doing, and his eyes radiated hostility as he shot a glance towards him.
However, this young man suddenly felt a gaze on him and he turned his head to see Fang Cheng casually looking at him.
A strange feeling suddenly rose in this young man’s heart when he met Fang Chen’s gaze. He couldn’t help but frown as a result.
Shi Lei, Wu Kai, and Chang Li had immediately withdrawn their auras when Ji Mei had appeared. Upon seeing Yang Su releasing his aura to clash with hers, the three thought this fool was looking to die.
If only he knew how terrifying this ice beauty was he wouldn’t dare release his aura to go against her. Instead, he would willingly bow his head.
The three could only chalk it up to him being a Mainlander. They saw this all the time, Mainlanders having come here full of arrogance because they were called geniuses where they were from.
But of course, Borderners took pleasure in knocking all of them down a notch.
It had even become somewhat of a sport to see these arrogant Mainlanders get a thrashing.
Though they had to admit when they heard of Wu Kai’s confrontation with them, they realize these Mainlanders weren’t like the rest.
They had each come here to size them up, whether they would be able to accompany them for a round or two. They were already tired of battling Sea Beasts, and no human wanted to spar with them. The levels between those on the Southern Border Rankings were already established, so unless one of them made a major breakthrough the outcome of a fight between them was already set in stone.
But could they finally fight another human now that these Mainlanders appeared?
The tension that had disappeared with Ji Mei's appearance slowly bubbled to life once again.
Caught up in the middle of this were Li Wen and Tai.
Li Wen was a late-stage Core Formation Realm cultivator, he couldn't just battle some juniors. While Tai himself wasn’t as battle-hungry as the others.
But as bystanders, they were eager to see a matchup between their group and these people from the Southern Border.
Suddenly, Ji Mei broke her gaze from Yang Su and turned to walk away.
Ji Niu seeing this asked.
“Sister, where are you going?”
Ji Mei stopped, and without turning around said.
“To the battle arena. Didn’t I say we can’t fight here?”
She then continued walking, followed by the expressionless youth after he glared at Yang Su one more time.
Ji Niu hearing her sister had her heart race.
'So sister is going to fight? Did she find a worthy opponent out of these Mainlanders?'
Not only Ji Niu, but Wu Kai and the others glance at each other with shock written on their faces. They then glanced at Yang Su and the rest at the table with meaningful gazes, before leaving the second floor of the pavilion.
While their counterparts were filing out of the pavilion, Yang Su and the others looked at each other.
After a moment, they then silently got up and followed the group to the battle arena.
