Chapter 159 - 159 Guaranteed to Be Realer Than Pearls
“He’s alive.”
Although the candlelight in the temple was a little dim, Shen Yao could still see the rise and fall of the man’s chest.
Clearly, he was still alive, but he looked like he was on the verge of death.
!!
“Buddha said that saving a life is better than building a seven-storied pagoda. Should we save him?” Ji Zhao asked softly, then shook her head and said, “Why don’t we just leave him alone? What if he’s a vicious big baddie?”
“Ah Tao, let’s save him first.” Shen Yao thought for a moment and said softly, “If he’s really a bad person, we’ll send him to the county office. What do you think?”
“Okay!” Ji Zhao immediately nodded in agreement. “I think your idea is very good.”
After a discussion, the two of them decided to save the man covered in blood.
Shen Yao approached carefully and slowly squatted down. Just as he was about to check the man’s wound, he felt a cold light suddenly appear in front of him.
The unconscious man suddenly opened his eyes. His phoenix eyes flickered with a clear light! The blade of the dagger in his hand was only an inch away from Shen Yao’s forehead.
“What is the meaning of this?” Ji Zhao complained unhappily. “Let me tell you, we want to save you. Don’t be ungrateful! If my husband loses a strand of hair, I won’t let you off!”
“Save?” The man’s voice was very hoarse, as if he had not drunk water for many days. It was extremely uncomfortable to hear.
“You’ve lost too much blood. If you don’t treat your wound as soon as possible, you’ll definitely have to see Hades with your life,” Shen Yao said calmly. “Of course, you can refuse our help.”
“Thank you.” The man silently let down his guard and squeezed out these two words with difficulty. Then, he fell to the ground and fainted again.
Shen Yao picked up the dagger that had fallen to the ground and carefully cut open the clothes stuck to his chest.
“Heavens?” The wound that came into view was actually a hole that was still bleeding, and there was even a broken arrow stuck in it!
“Shen Yao, why don’t we go and get a physician?” Ji Zhao tugged at his sleeve nervously and whispered.
This man’s wound was too tricky. If they were not careful, not only would they not be able to save him, they might even send him on his way.
Ji Zhao did not want Shen Yao to take the risk.
“Ah Tao, it’ll be fine.” After seeing the mark on the broken arrow, Shen Yao comforted her softly. “Go back and find Mother and ask her to send some gauze and medicinal powder.”
“Can you really do it alone?”
“Ah Tao, go quickly.”
“Alright then.” Ji Zhao could not dissuade him. She immediately turned around and ran out of the Earth Temple. She jogged back to the Shen family’s courtyard.
On the other side, Shen Yao had already set up a fire and boiled the water.
Half an hour later, Zhao Lanhua came with Ji Zhao.
“Third Brother, what’s going on?”
“Mother, it’s too late to explain now,” Shen Yao said with a frown.
“Mother, Ah Tao, help hold his wrists tightly. Don’t let him move.”
The two of them immediately did as they were told.
Shen Yao’s gaze landed on the half broken arrow. Then, he gently rotated his wrist and used some skill to finally pull out the half broken arrow successfully!
The difficulty of the process was self-evident.
An hour later, the man’s injuries were finally treated.
“Third Brother, should we report this to the officials?” After Shen Yao was done, Zhao Lanhua walked to his side anxiously and asked softly, “I’ve already taken a good look at this person’s face just now. He doesn’t look like a villager nearby. Moreover, the clothes he’s wearing aren’t ordinary cotton linen.”
“Mother, Ah Tao, let’s go home.” Shen Yao chuckled. “Let’s go?”
“We’re going back just like that?” Ji Zhao was surprised. “Shen Yao, are we leaving now? What about him?”
Pointing at the figure on the ground, Ji Zhao asked curiously.
“We’ve helped him as much as we can. As for whether he can survive this ordeal, it’s up to him.” Shen Yao smiled calmly. “It’s late. Let’s go home early, okay?”
“Fine.”
At 12:45 pm, the man lying on the reed mat slowly opened his eyes.
Taking advantage of the fact that he had regained some strength, he struggled to get up from the ground and walked out of the Earth Temple shakily. He sent out the signal flare hidden in his arms—
The next morning, Ji Zhao made crab porridge and crab roe noodles.
Other than Second Sister-in-law Shen, everyone else was quite satisfied.
“Sigh, I don’t think my shredded chicken noodles are fragrant anymore,” Second Sister-in-law Shen said aggrievedly.
“Second Sister-in-law, I’ll make you another bowl of braised pork after the Mid-Autumn Festival,” Ji Zhao promised her with a smile.
“Really?” Second Sister-in-law Shen instantly beamed with joy!
Ah Tao’s braised pork was especially good!
However, she was about to give birth in a month, so her mother-in-law did not let her eat too much greasy food. Otherwise, it might not be smooth when she gave birth in the future.
Of course, Second Sister-in-law Shen understood her mother-in-law’s good intentions, but she was a glutton! She had not eaten meat for five days!
“I guarantee it’s realer than a pearl.” Ji Zhao smiled lightly, but her tone was quite serious.
Halfway through the morning, Ji Zhao was helping Zhao Lanhua dry the radish.
The more Zhao Lanhua thought about it, the more uneasy she felt. “Ah Tao, Third Brother went to the fields to work. I’m afraid he didn’t take what happened last night to heart.”
“Mother? I don’t understand what you mean.”
“Yesterday at the Earth Temple. That person’s injuries looked quite scary.” Zhao Lanhua thought about it carefully. “I think we should save him until the end, right?”
After the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law discussed it, they agreed to go to the Earth Temple together.
...
Zhao Lanhua had a food box in her hand. There was a bowl of vegetable porridge in the food box.
Ji Zhao carried a hoe on her shoulder.
It was around 9 am when the two of them finally arrived at the Earth Temple.
However, the Earth Temple was empty. Even the bloodstains on the ground had been cleaned up.
Zhao Lanhua and Ji Zhao looked at each other and saw suspicion in each other’s eyes. The two of them subconsciously rubbed their eyes, but nothing changed.
The temple was very clean.
“Ah Tao, did we have the same dream?” Zhao Lanhua asked softly.
“I don’t think so.” Ji Zhao carefully observed every corner of the temple. Finally, his gaze landed on the shrine platform of the statue of the Earth God.
“Mother, we weren’t dreaming,” Ji Zhao said in a low voice. “Look, the pastries on this altar are gone.”
