Chapter 93
Two Birds with One Stone (3)
The owner was an old grandpa. He was very old and had opened a breakfast shop here for a very long time. He was familiar with all the customers and regulars.
He knew about this little girl who just moved here.
“What do you want to buy, little girl?” the old grandpa asked her, still friendly.
“I…I don’t have money.” Jiang Xiaoman didn’t have a lot of money from the New Years. The red envelopes she got in the village only contained a few cents. She got so many red envelopes, but she still couldn’t afford a few buns.
“Then what do you want to do?” Now that there were not many customers, the owner had time to chat with her.
“Grandpa, can you help me make this celery into juice?” Jiang Xiaoman said in a low voice. “I want to take it to school… to drink.”
There was a juicer in the breakfast shop, which was usually used to make soy milk. Just a few spins and the soybeans would be squeezed into pulp. Jiang Xiaoman remembered it from the last time she came here with Uncle to buy breakfast.
If the celery was turned into juice, she could hide them.
“Oh, you’re pretty health-conscious.” The grandpa looked at her for a bit, then said embarrassedly, “But my juicer is used to make soymilk…Your celery smells too strong. I’m afraid…”
Before he finished speaking, drip drip drip, Xiaoman’s tears already started falling.
She cried so miserably.
She was spanked twice yesterday, and today she was still going to have to eat the celeries raw. Thinking about it, she felt that she was too miserable.
Why was she so miserable?
Her tears quickly fell whenever she felt like it. There was no sound. She was just crying in silence, making people pity her.
The old man also had a grandson at home. Seeing her cry so miserably, he couldn’t stand it anymore and washed the celeries and turned them into juice. He put them into a cup for her and sealed the lid well.
“Study hard and improve every day, little lady,” the old man said.
Xiaoman’s tears broke into a smile, and she obediently took it with both hands. “I will ask my uncle to buy more buns next time.”
Yo, the little kid was pretty sensible. She knew how to return a favor.
Jiang Xiaoman left happily.
When the old man had turned the celery into juice, the vegetables didn’t look like celeries anymore. Right now, it should already be edible, right?
Jiang Xiaoman went to school with the celery juice.
The cup was the transparent one that the shop usually used for soymilk. You could see the green color with a glance, and little white foams were floating at the top.
Jiang Xiaoman put that cup in front of Yu Qingshi.
Yu Qingshi’s brows furrowed so much it could squeeze a fly to death.
His little face was conflicted. He didn’t want to know what the drink was.
Out of courtesy, Yu Qingshi had to say, “I…I already had breakfast today.”
Please rescind your kindness.
“The system said that this is good for digestion. It is suitable for just after eating breakfast to promote bowel movement. It’s very, very healthy and nutritious.”
Yu Qingshi’s face was full of resistance.
Yu Wencheng looked at Jiang Xiaoman then at his son. He patted Yu Qingshi on the back and said, “Accept it. This is Xiaoman’s goodwill. Imagine how sad she would be if you refused.”
There was no way around it. Yu Qingshi could only accept Jiang Xiaoman’s gift.
After the adults left, Yu Qingshi asked, “What is it today? Is this green onion juice?”
Jiang Xiaoman was too embarrassed to tell him the truth, so she could only say, “It’s a secret.”
‘A secret.’ Yu Qingshi became even more afraid to drink the liquid.
He put it inside his school bag and said, “I’ll drink it later.”
Jiang Xiaoman was, naturally, fine with that.
It was not like she especially prepared breakfast for Yu Qingshi. She just thought it would be a waste if no one drank it.
If she could drink it herself, she would, but she hated celery too much, so she didn’t want to drink it either.
