Chapter 59
Mama Jiang Yue (1)
You wouldn’t finish talking about Jiang Xiumei’s grievances with her maternal family even if you took three whole days. There was nothing good in their relationship. It was something she wouldn’t forget even till death.
Her maternal family was not good to Jiang Xiumei. She was the elder sister in the family, but her parents did not value her and only cared about her little brother. When she was still a maiden, she could not live well for a single day. As far as she could remember, all the hard and dirty work were all hoisted onto her.
Later on, she married Jiang Xing’s dad, and the man treated her well. Jiang Xiumei’s life gradually improved.
Her parents only valued boys, and Jiang Xiumei had suffered from that kind of treatment firsthand. After she gave birth to Jiang Yue, she treated her like the apple of her eye and treated her as well as Jiang Xing.
Back then, everyone ate from the soup kitchen. There was no income. They had no money and no food, and life was tough. But Jiang Yue studied well and wanted to go to school, so they gritted their teeth, did everything they could, and finally managed to allow her to go to college.
At that time, Jiang Xiumei finally felt relieved from the pressure.
Her daughter was very promising. She was finally no longer looked down upon and could live a good life. Everyone in the area envied her.
But her maternal family said that something was wrong with her head for letting a daughter go to school. She was money-losing goods and would belong to another family1. Wouldn’t all those efforts be better used to support her brother? Her maternal family could still help her, but what could that little girl Jiang Yue even do?
Jiang Xiumei was very angry, and from then on, she wouldn’t go back to her maternal family, even during New Years’. While she didn’t say it explicitly, in her heart, she already cut off their relationship.
Who would’ve thought that Jiang Yue’s luck was terrible? After working for just a few years, she fell seriously ill.
The doctor said that she suffered from acute leukemia and needed a bone marrow transplant to have any chance of survival.
Hearing that it was a terminal illness, Jiang Xiumei could only feel that the sky would collapse.
Later on, the doctor said that someone from her maternal family had a compatible bone marrow. If they were willing to be a donor, she still had a chance to survive.
The compatible donor was from her maternal family. If it had been herself, she would have been willing to give even her own life for the sake of her daughter.
Jiang Xiumei went back to beg them for help. But when that heartless bunch heard that she wanted them to donate bone marrow, without even knowing clearly what it meant, they already shook their heads and refused. It was useless no matter how hard she begged.
Finally, her daughter was gone. Jiang Xiumei’s heart was filled with hatred, and from then on, she never wanted to have anything else to do with her maternal family.
That maternal family who hadn’t had anything to do with her for 800 years now suddenly visited her home. How could it have been a good thing?
Jiang Xiumei was angry and hateful. She asked Jiang Xing, “Is the wound on your head because of your uncle?”
Jiang Xing’s head lowered and he fell silent, tacitly confirming her guess. Although he was injured, his opponents also didn’t get off lightly.
“That damned thing!” She gritted her teeth and said, “If he dares to hit you again, hit him back. You’re my son; what right do others have to discipline you? That shameless thing!”
As soon as she said that, a few ‘ouch’ sounds came from the door. The voice was muddy; it seemed to come from an older man.
That voice, wasn’t it exactly her brother?
Jiang Xiumei came to the door with a sullen face and saw two people sitting on the threshold, crying out shamelessly.
One of them was Jiang Xing’s uncle Hong Xingguo, and the other was Jiang Xing’s cousin Hong Li. Hong Xingguo looked fine, but Hong Li’s head had a bleeding wound on it.
So the ones who came were the father and son duo.
As soon as he saw Jiang Xiumei, Hong Xingguo immediately said. “How did you teach Xingxing? Look at how he hit my son. Is this how you treat guests? Isn’t it bad luck to see blood on New Years’? ”
Jiang Xiumei felt very happy and thought that her son had done a great job. She couldn’t wait to drill a hole in his head with a brick.
1. You might remember this from a few chapters ago. Money-losing goods is a derogatory word used for girls in older times, associated with paying the dowry when marrying your daughter away. Also, the daughter would ‘belong’ to her husband’s family, hence this sentence.
