Chapter 6
A huge crowd that was nowhere to be seen when they passed through the capital’s entrance was now present in the boulevard leading to the Imperial Palace.
“…What is this.”
The carriage had not even gotten halfway down the street before the road was completely blocked. The 20 odd knights were struggling to control the crowds that constantly swarmed the party.
Daniel asked in a serious tone, “Did you make a request to headquarters for support?”
“I contacted the vice-manager with a communication sphere; it will take them about 20 minutes to arrive.”
“It appears that there has been an information leak. I intentionally borrowed a carriage from the Sagrina Family in order to be as camouflaged as possible. “
Daniel sighed as his expression became pained.
This was something that Yewon had forgotten. That the Saintess, who is treated as a soccer ball by the male leads, is a popular idol amongst normal citizens.
‘By the way, if it’s the Sagrina family…’
The Sagrina family was the household of Lady Beatrice. As one of the most influential families in the Grancia Empire and through its contributions to the nation, the family had a great reputation and was second only to the Emperor.
“I’m sorry, Saintess. I should have paid more attention to security,” apologized Daniel helplessly as he reentered the carriage. Evanessa shook her head in response to his words.
“How is this your fault? The people who are blocking the public streets when they should be passing by are in the wrong.”
“…Yes?”
Daniel questioned Evanessa doubtfully, yet she wasn’t paying attention.
If it were modern times, these people are the equivalent of crazed fans practically blocking the whole middle of a highway just to see a celebrity.
“Rather than that, I think it will be difficult for the knights.”
Through the small window, Evanessa saw the people trying to get close to her carriage and the knights desperately trying to stop them.
Daniel’s face darkened.
“The reinforcements will arrive soon, so don’t worry too much– Saintess?”
At the end of the sentence, Daniel’s voice rose in surprise due to Evanessa’s unexpected behavior.
Before he had finished speaking, Evanessa stood up and opened the door wide. The people who were behaving like fanatics, crying out for the Saintess, quickly quieted.
The knights looked at Evanessa nervously as she had suddenly appeared.
Evanessa did not immediately get down from the carriage. Instead, she looked down expressionlessly at the gathered crowd. Everyone appeared nervous as they waited for her to speak.
Finally, her lips that were visible under the veil slowly opened.
“Everyone.”
“…..”
“You’re too noisy.”
Then, she closed the door to the carriage.
‘Was it a little too much?’
Evanessa returned to her seat as if nothing had happened. She felt Daniel looking at her with a blank expression, but she looked away, pretending not to notice.
Luckily, her rudeness seemed to have had its intended effect and there were no further disturbances.
Evanessa closed her eyes, ignoring the confusing hum from outside. She hadn’t even started the main story, but already she had a major headache forming.
‘First, I have to put an end to this damn popularity of the saintess.’
Only
In the first place, the reason the temple held Evanessa so close is because of the love she garnered from the citizens due to her title of ‘The Saintess Chosen by Lunium’.
The affection of the citizens leads to fame. Fame soon becomes power. It was this fact that led to the Church using Evanessa to fight underhandedly with the Imperial Palace.
‘I think a scandal will be the most effective method.’
Somehow, during the month in which Evanessa will be staying at the Imperial Palace, she must make a justification that is enough for the temple to let her go. If she remains in the temple as is, the probability of a bad ending is over 90%.
While thinking about this plan, the support team had arrived. Daniel got off the carriage as quickly as possible and commanded the knights to clear the road.
Fortunately, the citizens cleared more easily than usual, as they were a little shocked by Evanessa’s rough words. Shortly thereafter, the carriage began moving again.
