Chapter 482 - The Perfect Opportunity
Chapter 482 - The Perfect Opportunity
"Do you need a Butler, Vonny?" Taylor pouted the moment they sat in the carriage that would be driving them to the Commercial District.
Since only the three noble children were inside this carriage, he did not have to hide his thoughts from her.
Yvonne glanced at the young boy sitting on the other side of the carriage with her brother.
The two boys had similar expressions of dissatisfaction on their faces as they disliked the new boy who was to become her butler.
"Yes, I do need someone to act as my butler." She answered without hesitation which made Taylor choke.
Howard knew the core reasoning hidden behind her words but Taylor was still ignorant about everything related to CLOVER.
'I cannot reveal anything until Vonny decides to do so herself.' He decided to remain silent about the information that his friend had no clue about.
'All in its time.' Yvonne smiled at her brother, displaying that he had done the right thing by not revealing CLOVER's matter to Taylor.
While the siblings were smiling at each other, the one left out was sulking further.
'First, she surprised me with the news of her butler and now they are ignoring me!' He grumbled but before he could voice out his grievances, the carriage came to a halt.
The door was opened from the outside and the coach driver from the Tanner family bowed as he waited for them to get off the carriage.
Yvonne was helped by her brother who held her hand and once she was down, he continued to hold it in accordance with the strict instructions he had received from their father.
'Don't let her out of your sight.' Earl St. Claire's firm voice echoed in Howard's ear and he was sure to adhere to the instructions he had received.
Jax had been traveling in the second carriage meant for the servants that had followed theirs.
Therefore, the first sight he chanced upon after alighting from the carriage was of the two boys who were glaring daggers at each other as they fought to hold her hand.
'She's popular.' He surmised that his Big Boss was sought after from a young age and could assume what might happen when she grows a little older.
The three noble children did not hear Jax's almost prophetic thoughts as they went ahead to do what they had come here for in the first place.
Jax walked along with the servant who had come to serve Taylor and they followed their Masters, maintaining a short distance between them.
Since the other servant was under the misconception that Jax was serving Young Master Howard, he did not ask for any introductions which saved Yvonne's aide the effort of explaining things to him.
The three children and the two aides visited numerous stores where they found various items necessary for the next academic year at the Royal Academy.
"This one." The little girl pointed at the pure black jacket that the shopkeeper was holding in his hand.
The three were currently inside a clothing store where Howard and Taylor wished to buy formal wear as the first day of the year was a special event in the Academy.
"Miss has a sharp eye for fashion." The shopkeeper praised the child who had been helping the boys pick out their clothes.
"I'll take it!" Taylor announced which made Howard scoff.
"Vonny picked that out for me!" He argued and just as they were about to get into another argument, the peacemaker had already come forward with a solution.
'If I do not stop them then we will only be wasting precious time.' She narrowed her eyes as she was in no mood to hear them squabble over this.
Therefore, she pointed her finger at another jacket that was on display.
"That one, please." She requested and the servant in the store hurried to bring it out for her.
Holding a pure white jacket in her hand, she turned to Taylor and placed it over his chest.
She had to stand on her toes as he was considerably taller than her now.
Taylor looked down at the head of violet hair which was close to him and then at the jacket that she had held against his body.
"Brother Taylor, this one looks better on you." She suggested that he should buy this one instead.
His earlier discontentment that she had only cared for Howard vanished without a trace as he nodded his head like a chicken pecking grains off the ground.
"This one then!" He announced and scoffed at his best friend who had been watching this scene with jealous eyes.
The shopkeeper and the servant had seen how the little Miss of the St. Claire family had dealt with this situation in such a mature manner and even saved them the trouble of stepping in.
"Help us pack these." Yvonne smiled at the two men who were blinded by her adorable face.
However, the glares they felt from both Howard and Taylor in the next second made them bow before they hurried to prepare their purchases.
The items would be sent to the carriages so the children walked out of the store once they had completed paying their bills.
Outside they met Jax with the other servant waiting for them.
'That should be enough for now.' Yvonne surmised as the real reason for accompanying her brothers to the Commercial district had been something else entirely.
Since she needed to leave the Mansion without adult supervision, she chose this method to do so as Rutherford would not object if she was with Howard.
Therefore, Yvonne had been patient enough to be dragged along with them from store to store as she helped them pick out the items that suited them the best.
However, now she had found the perfect opportunity to separate from the group and go about the task for which she had come here in the first place.
"Big Brother?" She looked up once she had decided what her next step would be.
Howard glanced down after hearing her feeble voice and frowned when he saw her pale face.
Before he could inquire what was wrong, Taylor had beaten him to it.
Glaring at his best friend who now had a victorious glow on his face, he turned towards his baby sister.
"I'm hungry." Her mumbles made those who heard it want to chuckle at how cute she was.
But they knew better than doing that as it might cause them to gain her ire.
Therefore, Howard and Taylor covered their mouths to hide the grins which had already formed on their faces.
'Too late for that!' Yvonne growled in her heart as she had already noticed their wide smiles which was most definitely an outcome of her acting.
Everything she was doing now was an act after all, as she had a mission to accomplish before she could head back home with them.
Therefore, she calmed herself and pretended to have not seen their disrespectful behavior as they were enjoying the pitiful look on her face.
Clearing his throat, Howard soon suggested escorting her to the nearest cafe where they could have something to eat before heading to the next store.
However, how could Yvonne agree to this as it was against the plan that she had made?
Therefore, she twiddled her thumbs and bit her lip as though she had other thoughts in mind.
"Big brother, the next store is right next door." She pointed at the smith's store that the boys had to visit next to gather their supplies.
Howard's sword junkie soul was refreshed after taking a look at the store's name and there was conflict apparent on his face.
'I know you too well.' Yvonne smirked on the inside but she continued to portray the appearance of a sweet little sister who did not wish to hinder him.
"The cafe is on another street." She added and saw further hesitation in Howard's expressions.
He alternated his gaze between the store right before his eyes and then his little sister who did appear to be hungry, confused on what to do next.
To solve the dilemma that she had put him into, Yvonne smiled and blinked her wide eyes at him.
"I can head to the cafe and you can finish your task before meeting me there." She offered like the kind-hearted and understanding little sister that she was.
These words made his eyes widen as that would mean going against the task that their father had assigned to him.
"No-" He began his retort but she was quick to cut him off.
"Jax can accompany me and keep me safe." She proposed and turned to her Butler who nodded immediately.
Howard paused after this was said as he narrowed his eyes at the aide whom she had brought along.
"If something happens to her…" He did not have to finish his threat as Jax had understood what he meant.
The elder brother was placing the responsibility of his little sister's safety in the hands of this Butler who had been undergoing rigorous training.
No matter how much Howard disliked this boy, he could not deny that Jax was doing a great job progressing at a high speed in his training.
This was the only reason why he was even willing to entertain the thought of leaving his sister in this young servant's hands.
While Jax was nervous for the first big responsibility he was given, Taylor was frowning as he did not like this one bit.
However, they had no say in this matter after looking at the little girl's face which brightened upon realizing that Howard had finally accepted her suggestion.
